900SL Register - Open At Last for submissions

Open for sumissions - SL Owners please visit http://www.900sl.com

This is old below VVVV
_____________________________

I've adapted a site template I have had for some time into a database / dynamic website for 900SL Owners. I did think about an MSN Space but it just wasn't flexible enough for use. There's a bit left to do but it's worth a look still.

Please visit by clicking HERE

It's fully controllable via browser (adding / editing new content, change layout etc etc) but if anyone wants a username and password you can also administer the site, update documents, create content, upload images etc etc and it has full DHTML editing features.

Please let me know what you think. You could use this style of template for any register in effect if anyone else needs it for something else.

I will make sure that no reg number, Vin number or any information that may be personal to an owner is displayed on the site and carry a disclaimer to state that all content for each machine belongs to the respective owners etc.

I haven't bought the domain name yet but if people think it's a good format for this regsiter i'll run with it. Any info greatly received. If anyone is any good with graphics I'd welcome that (because i'm average at best and coding is my forte)

Great little website - I like it.

Always good to see nice pics of SL's.

I think you would need to let members amend their own registration details (for bikes) otherwise you could be kept quite busy trying to keep it up to date.

I have a feeling there is another SL register somewhere ... but cant remember where?

Good luck - Frank

That's a good idea and i think I might do that instead. I searched the web and couldn't find anything except Ian's Yahoo group. Cheers.

ali 22-Jan-2006 16:49

Top work Ziggi! Frank's right though, a self-service form for each owner would be a much easier for you to maintain. If you can deal with uploading of photos then you're sorted, it should just run itself. Keep hacking... :)

Cheers,

Ali

Sorry Ziggi - I was thinking of Edwyuns - FE register here:

Sorry again - my daughter, Megan took over the keyboard at the end !!!

Yes i've seen Edwyuns site which is just for FE's really hence my search for a superlight Mk1 to 5 register.

I'll add a self service form and pic upload - no probs - but the data will have to wait for ratification by an admin person before it goes live but it's better than typing each one in. I'll also add some code in to check that a user can't select a model number that someone already has.

Ian900SLV 22-Jan-2006 20:46

Top Job ziggi mate, I`ll post on my SL user group a link, if any one reads it ;);););)

If you want help in admin of the site then I am willing to help.

Wish I was that clever with computers :(:(:(:(:(

Ian

cheers Ian - U2U with admin login details. Nearly there with it now. The self registration form is almost ready (demo available) and a slight rework needed on the data before going live.

Looking good Colin - I like how the pics open in new window as well, even with the tabs in the firefox broswer I use - its still nice to have the original window kept open.

ps - I do like the homepage pic of the SL with the fairing lower cut-out to show off the clutch cover as well - neat.

Frank

ziggi 23-Jan-2006 09:38

Cheers, Iconic. The Homepage pic changes every refresh but I've a few pics of that particular SL. It's had lots of mods. I'll launch the site in a few days once it's ready.

FiscusFish 23-Jan-2006 11:37

S'looking good.

I'm getting this though with Firefox. IE shows up fine

ziggi 23-Jan-2006 11:45

Ah - yes. Bugger. I'm using DHTML that's only compliant with IE. I will change that for the submission form. Firefox users will get just a plain textarea field until I rework the DHTML to work with mozilla.

Thanks for that.

Doh, Like a moron I tried to register my old Mk1 sing the page links.....double doh!

Another good tool is frappr maps.
Ducati oop north use it for members to register on and you can see whereabouts in country everyone is.

ziggi 23-Jan-2006 14:41

That's quite a good idea although I wanted to avoid anything too personal so that people would register but I guess a Town would be fairly unpersonal. I might add that to the reg form. The other thing is that when a "user" has to type something in, it can be spelt wrong/differently hence my use of drop down select fields. I saw something on someone elses posts "The problem with people building a fool proof system is the underestimation of the utter foolishness of the fool" or something like that.

Iconic944ss 23-Jan-2006 15:49

Darren / Colin - I'd dont get the same viewing problem as Fiscus did but, I had other problems (understatement) and am using the latest Beta version of Firefox.

ziggi 28-Jan-2006 02:18

Open at last - 1 or two already submitted - please submit details and spread the word.

I will post on the US & Italian Ducati forums to get some more interest.

Thanks !

Nice work Ziggi - another comment - I found it too easy to whizz straight past someone in the listing, how hard would it be to make a changed entry different to an unregistered / undisclosed one?

Different colour / asterisk or sommat at the end perhaps ?

Cheers - F

ziggi 28-Jan-2006 19:59

I'll do that and eventually i'll get some time to sort it out properly. It's just getting the time.

ali 29-Jan-2006 14:26

Feckin' brilliant work Ziggi! Should definitely go in the next Pronto so we can get all members SLs on there.

Well done.

Ali

ziggi 29-Jan-2006 16:51

cheers - I'm trying to spread the word - if you know of anyone else send them a link. I'll start registering bikes that i've found elsewhere.

Yvonne 29-Jan-2006 17:44

Just added mine... well done Ziggi.

Ian900SLV 30-Jan-2006 19:43

Well done Ziggi, top job, all we need now is a submission drive to fill the holes, I only know of one other SL, and thats a guy I see at summer bike nights, maybe an idea to get some screen stickers done to promote the site ???????

Ian

ziggi 30-Jan-2006 21:29

Sounds like a good idea to me. I have no idea how to go about that. I could ask a graphic designer friend but some similar to the dsc ones would look good. I might try and redesign the site header to look better (and better for a screen sticker).

And graphic designers out there - anyone good with graphics also would like to redesign this graphic (width must be kept) would be very greatful.

My effort
