Today i saw the Ugliest Ducati EVER At the Ally Pally i saw the 999 on Casoli Moto's stand... christ is that a bloody awful looking machine. Lots of work has gone into it i can see, but Jesus did they get that all wrong.... a complete and utter monstrosity. Anyone else seen this ? |

Is this the Carbon and gold one ???? If it is don't be fooled. I was at Casoli a couple of weeks ago and saw the preparation of the bike. The carbon tank is not carbon at all :o It's had a carbon skin laid on to the top of a steel tank and then blended in to the sides with filler then painted. I saw a "carbon" seat unit that was a glass seat with carbon patches laid in to the gell coat and left to show with the glass parts being painted. Same on the fairings etc. Don't get me wrong, still loads of work and may be someones choice ... just not mine. If your gonna go for carbon, race mods etc may as well do it right. |
"Pimp my ride" wrong all wrong :( |
The only thing i was fooled into was thinking it was a motorcyle for a moment, not a museum piece that belongs in the Tate. It's a terrible shame when you see how nice some of their components are... they could have produced a superb machine with the resources available to them. Can someone who goes please take a few pics.... |
Sounds like to me as though that sums up everything that is wrong with Ducatis these days. [Edited on 30-1-2006 by twpd] |
To me a Ducati is a bike with purity of purpose....that is what my first 748 (an SP) was about. These days it seems to be a case of buying a bike, throwing as much bling at it as you can afford no matter how tasteless. The ultimate expression of that is stick on carbon side panel for airboxes....why????? Useless accessories: carbon stick-on sidepanels - adds weight carbon key guards - adds weight carbon disc vents - adds weight in the worst possible place i.e unsprung weight vented carbon clutch covers - ever seen what happens to your clutch when you fall off on the clutch side? Casoli should know better. [Edited on 30-1-2006 by twpd] |

not going till sat but will have the camera :o |
Its,.......erm,.........a little differant! |
Here's a pic taken at the show. Mobile phone quality I'm afraid. |
What you cant see from the pics is the metalflake gold paint. Really not my cup of tea at all,...but I bet there is someone out there that likes it. |
I bet Casoli themselves think it's brill-but then they never did have any taste............. John |
Oh dear. It's like a Superbike mag special except........ |
I'm not a religious man but I will pray for the person that came up with that:devil: |
Another picture - taken today .... :barfy: ![]() |
Go on!...give us a clue...what's 'ugly' about it? |
God that thing needs burning, the 999 has a hard enough time convincing the die-hards but even I wouldn't want to admit to owning that :barfy: |
Have to say that I don't feel like poking my eyes out with a branding iron now that I've seen the pictures. It's not my cup of tea but I doubt any XX9 will ever be. |

The problem with the internet is it's hard to convey subtle nuances and stuff like irony, sarcasm, etc. Please god tell me that was irony..... :o:puzzled: |

the pictures ddon't really do justice to how bad the metal flake paint looks. The gold behind the airguard things on the front the wheels the swingarm the seat unit made from vinyl :) ooooooh honestly mate... everything about it screams 'Pimp my Ride' |
Hey...I think it makes the 999 look quite nice - for a change... RX |
I would expect that in the US but not here and a vinyl seat??? looks like suede? [Edited on 31-1-2006 by Martinp] |
Seat pad is alcantara which is nice, but, to make it fit right it has a number of big nasty seams running along it .... bit of a Frankenstein's monster type stitching going on. |
