To cool or not to cool.... Hi, I'm Bike #24 in the 583s this year. I am toying wih the idea of buying an oil cooler. They seem to cost about £380 new so I wondered whether anyone here either has one or knows where I might purchase one 2nd hand (i've run a number of breakers with zero success) and not costing £380;) Cheers Franco |
Seems pricey, I managed to pick on up for £80 or so and a few more quid for a fitting kit. There's no need to get a specific Ducati oil cooler, but the fitting kit maybe specific to the 583 (if they do one?????) Tim |
no rush ..u wont need it at Cadwell .................. |
you can fit them to the 583's, but easier to fit to the later ones. Shouldnt be paying more than £150 absolute tops, much less is better tho. Shouldnt need one till after the first 2 rounds tho, as long as you are running good qual oil in the engine Will ask AK later about good source for you. C:) |
Go to any breakers that are local, on my GSXR I have one from a GSX550, a lot of the earlier air cooled bikes had one and there are plenty in breakers yards :) |
Don't be buying a new DP kit franco, it's way too pricey! If you want something new then have a word with Baines Racing... they offered to make me a kit last year at a much more sensible price. Or you could get a second hand oil rad of ye ol' faithful ebay and sort out your own bracket to hang it on. I've got some spare oil lines wot you can have v.v.cheap, then you'll need to buy the deflector for underneath the oil filter with I would think is only a couple of quid. And Fil's right, you won't need one for cadwell, most likely not Brands either. |

Oil cooler on a 583? By all means. I know several of the 620 guys found their oil temp getting a bit extreme at the high revving circuits like Snetterton, but if you set your gearing right you wont be over-reving too much and, if you're the sort of person that's changing oil after every round, then you'll probably be alright, just use a high quality oil. We got the Shell pack last year which made frequent oil changes more manageable on a very tight budget. |

LoL. Very good. Thanks for all of your responses. I think I might take the giving it a miss in the short term route to start with as some have quite rightly pointed out the first couple of rounds are not exactly in the south of spain. If I do end up needing one I will hunt around for "cheaper" alternatives. CK - Thanks for yours and AKs time last weekend and the nice cup of tea. I would be grateful for the oil advice when you get a minute. Thanks FRanco |
Its always a pleasure Franco:cool: will u2u you AK's mobile no. C:) |

No Probs - most are who use this board  Quote:
wont need one till Assen at earliest mate. C:) |
I have to say after racing all year without one I think you should have one. Once they get hot they lose power - mine ran stupidly hot all season! It's the only reason I didn't win the championship! If you forget about the fact that I'm rubbish as well ... |
