888 Gathering - Central ish Would Burton upon Trent be a reasonable location? Just gathering veiws at this stage. Rgds, Rob |
Or, if you are happy to do something during the week, what about gathering at the DoC (shush, not too loud) track day on the 18th July at Mallory Park? Those that want to can indulge in a spot of roundy, roundy too. Rgds, Rob |
I am up for either.I would prefer a DSC gathering to a DoC(wash my mouth out!);),but as long as we get together, don't really care!! |
Happy for a meet up around Burton. It seemed to me that somewhere in the Derby/Nottingham area would be a good place if we needed somewhere central. To be honest, I would prefer not to make it an event exclusive to 888's, couldn't we join in with one of the Notts crew rideouts and have a damn good turn out of 888's amongst all the other Dooks. I don't know how many 888's are in the club, but it would be nice to get 10 or so of em turn up. I think the previous record is held by the BHC when me and Sparkin showed up. Or by North Bucks when me and Beancounter went. |
To be honest, if we could get a good turn out I dont mind riding anywhere within reason Rob...! Nat |
Jools,i thought the idea is just to have an 888 gathering. We have talked about this for sometime, just never got around to it!!If it isn't just the 851/888's then it becomes "just" another Duke ride out/gathering and not the "Exclusive" event i (personally) feel it should be.We have specail bikes,so lets have a special meet.Of course this is just my opinion and i may be the only one who feels like this.We can always do a poll!!:) |
T8 Meet If Were going to meet up in Middle England would a long WE with BB included be a more practicable idea as after 90 miles my legs and arms want to drop off as im not built like an Italian midget. That way more bikes could meet up and have a full day for any ride out. just a thought. ian |

Fippin' heck! 90 miles and you need a B&B? Time to buy a gold wing mate:lol: Phil |

As posted last year on the other side. Most 851/888's on a ride? Sth lakes and Mancs branch of 'the quiet ones' ~ 5 of, plus a raft of others. Ains. PS: SP4S frame is away to Italy to be put back on the jig that it was originally created on, to come back nice and shiney and new. |
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE! |
Dear Jasper.......I'm sorry to hear that "just another Duke rideout" will not fulfill your wishes. I hope you enjoy your run out in the rarefied atmosphere you so obviously breathe, what with you being so exclusive....... :P Anyway, I think we'll all be busy washing our hair on that day....... :D |
Rushjob,if that is how my posts have come across,i apologise.I was not in anyway shape or form implying that a general gathering was "below me".Anybody that knows me,will vouch for the fact that i am quite the opposite.I did not mean to offend.By exclusive i meant special, because it's not happenend before and is probably unlikely to happen again! As i am not organising it,who the hell am i to say who can and can't come? i will be happy whatever the outcome. Can i use a UJM on the Ducati only TD?No?I'll stick with the 888 then!!:D [Edited on 6-2-2006 by Jasper] |

..Dont be fooled rushjob..I know him and he he is right up his own ****... On a serious note Jasper is right...we dont consider ourselves 'special'..but weve been talking about doing this for some time - I for one make no apologies for wanting a specialised meet as we will almost certainly attend other rideouts anyway.. Cheers Nat |
Yeah, I can see the point of having a T8 special, but do we really want to meet up somewhere and show off our bikes just to ourselves? Surely, we'd want to show 'em off to any Duke lover who'd want to see a whole group of em together? Whatever happens, I'll show up so that you guys can remember what a standard Srada looks like ;) |
How about a T8 meet up and then ride to the NW Region Mega meet on the 30th April, it would be good see a load of T8's arriving together. |
I'd be up for a look out - so long as I can everything bolted together in time... |
thanks Nat,if i'm ever in court remind me not to call you as a character witness!!:o |

Id rather buy a Smart car er perhaps not!!!!!! When your built like a Gibbon like me trying to squeeze 35 inside leg and twizzles arms I can assure you after 90 odd miles I want to get off, the bloody things designed for blastin round 15 laps of a track not taking some overwieght giraffe touring. :D:D:D:burn: ian |
The posts are going off subject already guys...:rolleye: let's keep to the agenda, and discuss what's a top idea. 888's only to meet up somewhere central, BUT to then later on incorporate another meet of some kind so others can enjoy looking at them. Plus spanning a weekend is a good idea. B+B/beer/full English. Gotta be fun!:roll: |

Spot on |
Agreed. |
Ditto..Rob and I spoke last night and he suggested the very same thing (Beer + finest bikes ducati ever made + Obsessed owners = great laugh :D) Nat |
off topic ?? aren't the posts on here supposed to be a larfff - that one made me chortle..so long as all gets sorted it doesn't matter does it ?? or are "we" so serious that this type of thing isn't tolerated ??? dammit - oh sorry - off topic... |
Sorry Neil, just trying to stay relevent to the idea! Anyway, are you volunteering to get all the logistics organised?? :D:D |
If there's nobody else standing up for it I don't mind at all - looking forward to it !! |
I'd be up for that, further into the summer would be good, possably a better chance of good weather and give me a chance to get the bike back on the road!! |
Put me down for receiving the details too Neil. Sounds like fun. Matthew |
Neil, it's looking like it's you mate! Better get a pen and paper out, and get organising...:roll::roll: [Edited on 9-2-2006 by RightSaidFred] |
oh boll****s, ever feel youv'e been had...your'e obviously highly experienced at this type of thing - very well executed. So as organiser I'll set us up for B&B at the Chequers, really handy for Croft - I'll speak with Tracy (at Croft) to see what circuit hire would be for a Duc only day - that's day one sorted , now what should be on the cards for day 2 - aha none other than a tour around my favourite Yorkshire places complete with obligatory cream teas. Now am I also expected to book the weather ? as I'm totally inexperienced at this last item if you could be so kind as to provide a contact..... Please let me know about numbers.:lol::lol::lol::devil: |
I'm definately up for it. I'm generally rationed to one track day a year so it would be nice to do one with a few other 8** owners. Keith |
all, my last post was intended to be something of a wind up, however if there is interest in this please let me know and I'll see if I can get the ball rolling. The only thing wrong here is that my wind up is North East based, but there's nothing to say that a similar approach to Donington (pretty central) could work out nicely for us - the only disadvantage I have is in not knowing any of the Donington circuit management team. Does the idea in principal sound Ok ? The other downside is that for a track event we would struggle to have the numbers necessary to make this an 851/888 only event (as has been previously discussed), so I believe that a DSC track day (all members) followed by a ride out the next day could be the way to move forward. cheers Neil |
Neil, It looks like you've got me off the hook. I had Burton covered and had 3 hotels lined up, all that have been tested for biker friendliness. No probs, I'll go with the flow, and as long as it fits around what where doing, I'll turn up. Rgds, Rob |
so errrrm Burton then - nice place is it, what have I done :rolleye: |
Watching with interest..!! |
BURTON IT IS THEN!! |
Rob, if you've already done a bit of digging, you're ahead of all us wind-up merchants :D Middle England is probably a good idea (i'll have to leave my 2.4 kids at home tho, heh). What hotels you got Rob? Post em up so we can have a butchers at their websites! |
Mass meet up Once we have agreed a date/schedule, and very approx numbers, I'll contact the hotels and try to get some discounts for a B&B rate. Grail Court tel.no:- 01283 741155. It is a bit cheap & cheerful but they are biker friendly and have lock up garages available. It is also within staggering distance of local amenities ( Pubs & Chinese) Three Queens Hotel tel no:- 01283 52800. A slightly better hotel, near to town but may be more expensive. Some people used it last year and were happy with it. Express by Holiday Inn tel no:- 01283 504300. The usual faceless business hotel ,a short taxi ride or long walk from town. Delter Hotel tel no:- 01283 535115. A quite nice small family run hotel about 1/2 mile from town,no garage but a private car park out of site of road. Edgecote Hotel tel no:- 01283 568966. 5 minutes walk from town , family run small hotel, no off road parking. Now the key decisoion seem to be weekend Sat night only or Fri/Sat night or weekday combined with a Trackday? I feel a poll coming on so watch this space. Rgds, Rob |
