is this right when selling a bike - would you fall for it Hi, Sorry if this e-bay item is a "DSC" bike, but, 749s advertised as a model year 2005. It may well be a 2005 registration, but, it is not a 2005 bike. Wrong fairing, wrong colour frame, wrong swing arm etc etc How Pi**ed off would you be to buy this thinking you had an 05 bike to be told you actually have an 03 bike. Not commenting on the condition of the bike, or price etc ... just what I consider to be a misleading advert. Not the only one on e-bay either. Guess it is buyer beware http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2005-DUCATI-74...cm dZViewItem |
I saw this as well, but I seem to remember that Ducati did put out some bikes with the old swinging arm and frame colour to use up the existing parts (although I did not think it was on the 'S version). So it may be one of those. |

Ooops sorry I mentioned it. |
my bike is a 2002 on a 2004 plate because it was a pre-reg, is this common ? Not that Im selling. I would not try to hide it and anyone who has done research would know that a 2004 ST4 would be a pre reg. As you said buyer beware, I would rather avoid the potential grief of selling privately and go for a part ex against another bike at a dealer. Maybe they are not as squeaky clean as they should be but at least there is the possibilty of redress. |
if I was selling I would put year of reg - wouldnt know any different...dont see the problem, you know what you are buting when you see it and accept it, or not if you're not happy. |

The ad saye model year 2005 and 1st registered 2005. The registration date is genuine, but, not the model year. What if it was the first Ducati you had bought and had not tracked the differences in spec and look over the last 2 years. If it was me I'd be pi**ed off thinking I had bought an 05 bike. You know that when you try to re-sell it it will never be worth what a true 05 bike is worth. |
It's an '03 or '04 as it has the old style fairing and swingarm. If it's an '03, it also won't have the extra horsepower he says it has. He's also avoided the model year question rather well :P |
But if you're prepared to spend that much money without knowing what the bikes supposed to look like, then getting the wrong model year is going to be the least of your worries... |
I'd be more worried about the "cat D" bit! Butch |

Yea, I was kind of ignoring the cat D, price, condition etc etc ... more on my high horse about someone misleading people about the model year of the bike. |
hope whoever buys it knows what theyre buying. . . . . /ian |
