1st: Saxon (!) at Bracknell Sports Centre (!!) 1980 when I was... hmmm... 14. It was sooo loud but I loved it.

Best: Too hard by far. One of the best is my favourite, now sadly de-funct, Norwegian outfit called Span. A couple of years ago they were touring the UK an I saw them 4 times including at a venue that used to be a public toilet (I kid you not) in Tonbridge. It's memorable because I ended up on stage singing & playing guitar with them. That made me smile for a couple of weeks, I can tell you.

Yup that was 1981. I still have my program somewhere. I think also Blue Oyster Cult and a crap band called More were on the same bill?

rockhopper 09-Feb-2006 12:53

Oh no, just had a thought, i saw Garry Moore before he went all blusey at the Manchester Apollo in 1985. Phil Lynott did a guest appearance.

Jools 09-Feb-2006 13:01

Went to my first ever gig with my Mum and Dad in 1964 when I was 9. It was at the Ritz Cinema in Luton (now a nightclub I think) and we saw a little band called the Beatles

First one I went to on my own was in 1972 - Wishbone Ash at Dunstable Civic

I'm an old enough git to have seen all the rock legends and some rock dinosaurs as well...

Led Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Hawkwind, Yes, ELP, Black Sabbath, XTC, The Jam, King Crimson, Gong, Genesis, Peter Gabriel....the list goes on....

neilkeogh 09-Feb-2006 13:19

First gig.......Deep Purple at Lewisham Odeon very loud but very good

Best gig ..........U2 at Slaney Castle

MARTIN H 09-Feb-2006 13:20

First bands I saw were the local punk bands, The Notsensibles, The Stiffs, The Pathetix. A mixture of some of these bands ended up being the band Chumbawuma. Would be sometime late 1970s? Was always tall and looked older so used to manage to sneak in with older mates in the local pubs/clubs I would probably be about 13 or 14.

First big gig in a proper venue would be Motorhead in 1979/1980? Then loads of dreadful heavy metal bands like Saxon, Tygers of Pan Tang etc etc. Got friends with a lad at school whos dad was in partnership with Phil Mcyntyre who promoted just about every band you could think of. Used to get on the guest list to see just about whoever we wanted. Typically went to see loads of rubbish HM bands and didnt bother going to see the bands I should have. The Jam were a band a could have seen 10 times but never bothered, What a fool! Still got loads of old tickets going back over the years.

Best gigs for me were always the Johnny Thunders & the heartbreakers ones in the early 1980s. And the ones where he toured with Hanoi Rocks, you never new what was going to happen next.

Worst gigs were loads of HM type bands like Spider, Magnum, scorpions, etc etc. Not to mention bands like The Alarm and Big Country.

The lad I mentioned dad also ran a printing firm that did All the concert posters and he used to give me one or 2 of each. I probably had about 200 brand new full size posters for just about every band that toured Europe in the Early 80s. What did I do with em? Gave em away about 10 years ago! Stupid! I kept only one and that was 'The Young Ones' comedy tour from about 1982.

Nat

Close...

MC Hammer...supported by SNAP...Wembley arena.

Went with my best mate nicknamed 'wozzer' or 'wogger'. Standing up in the middle of the stand at an MC Hammer concert and shouting 'OI WOG...I'M UP HERE!!!' didn't go down that well!

Bit like Antony on this one...I love music but just don't have the urge to do the concert thing.

couchcommando 09-Feb-2006 13:30

You bunch of old rockers....

Mine was hawkwind 1983 in Nottm I think when I was 15 ;)

LesPaul 09-Feb-2006 13:38

Can't remember if it was Def Leppard in Leicester or Thunder at Rock City, Nottingham in the late 80's :puzzled:
Seen both a few times again though, although 9 times out of 10 Thunder have still been at Rock City :D

Darren

Grib 09-Feb-2006 13:43

First big one was Jamiroquai, Plymouth in about....1998 I think. It was brilliant :D

TP 09-Feb-2006 13:50

I actually went to an underage gig in Hobart and saw Ratcat! Anyone remember them?

Twinfan 09-Feb-2006 14:15

1st gig was Iron Maiden in 1990, No Prayer For The Dying tour, somewhere in Hanley (Stoke on Trent). Supported by Wolfsbane if I remember rightly!

Best gig was in Newcastle Upon Tyne when I was a student. Bon Jovi, Ugly Kid Joe, Van Halen and Thunder around summer 1995? All day gig and it was fantastic. Van Halen stole the show :D

Brent 09-Feb-2006 14:16

Ahh what memories....

First - Sparks supported by Pilot, Fairfield Halls Croydon, 1974(?) - Yes, Ron Mael only moved his eyes and hand during the whole gig......

Best - Ramones supported by the Talking Heads, Croydon Greyhound 1977 - 15 songs in 30 mins followed by the lovely Tina Weymouth....
