Honda NX650 Dominator - known problems?? Been looking for a bike to do a spot of long-way-round inspired travelling at the end of this season and stumbled across a very tasty Dommie yesterday, something I'd always considered underpowered before (had been looking at Africa Twins), but this just felt completely 'right'. Question is, does anyone know of any common problems? I'm kind of hoping that as it's a honda it's likely to be bullet proof anyway, especially as the model hasn't changed in many, many years. It's had the seat replaced with a lovely comfy jobbie, has a full Leo Vince system, goodridge all round, and lots of other nice touches. It was obviously doted on by the last owner. Comfy enough for a 10k ride-out? Powerful enough to lug me + 50kg of extras? Light enough to pick up every time I bin it? Cheers for any replies. Ali |
Its been known for them to develope a crack in the cylinderhead between the valves. Well thats what I was told when mine did it, then again it had done over 70k, so it was replaced with a XBR head that had the squish machined out to suit the 700cc Wiesco big bore kit that went on it, along with Laser Produro exhaust and in the wnd 17" alloy 3-spokes. There is a dead one sitting in Dallas's garage at the moment, running them out of oil is not a good idea :o |
Ali how much you looking to spend on an Africa twin? ;) |

The whole bike would have to come in under £3k (incl trip prep). I'm still undecided about trying the trip on a bike with 32rwhp, but the happiest bike travellers I met in south america were on DR650s so it can't be that bad. :) |
Me mate has an Africa, w reg 1900 miles as new £3,250 try color red white and blue. Still a bit dear for you but just like buying a new one. |

That's really tempting, especially at that price, but 208kg.... Dry. :o I doubt I'll be travelling with anyone, so I need to be able to pick it myself. Even with a Dommie I'd want it down to 150ish kg. |
:o:o:o Does Saara know about this :o:o Engagement ring or no engagement ring, I think you might be pushing it matey :devil: Suffice to say, I have no information in answer to your question, but felt obliged to post anyway ;) |
Or would this be a little reward to yourself for making it through this race season with no (more) broken bones .... :sing: |
Wimp  Let me know if you still want to have a look though. :P |

Ed Zachary! Bird knows all about it. Will only be a short blat this time (c. 8 weeks) and I'll be mostly around europe, maybe as far east as turkey and north as estonia. Still only in planning though, and a whole race season to get through yet..... |

This is why Rin Sun and Whele now have BMWs as they found the roads in Eastern europe didn't suit the 916 and R1 and they are planning to be over that way a lot more this year. |
