6000 service, How Much

Local dealer just completed 6000 service inc belts. Cost £560 inc vat. I've looked at dealers web sits with service costs and didn't expect this. What should it have cost.
Cheers
G

Where any valves reshimmed?Absolute cow of a job on these bikes,...might explain the extra costs.

mark749s 14-Feb-2006 20:45

why did you have the belts done at 6000 I thought they were every 12000. My 6000 service was £470 at Ducati Bristol.

I do just about everything myself, and am very happy to put up with all the agro when i see the prices you guys pay !
What would a comparable service cost on a jap-4 ?
Or a 'priller twin ?

My 999 is due for a 24mnth/12000 service shortly. At the moment the milage is 3200 and have done less than 1000 miles since last service, will I still have to have a full 24mnth/12000 or will an interim service be ok?:rolleye:

Twinfan 15-Feb-2006 14:47

Yellowfila - Get the belts done as they're time dependent. Personally, I'd have the biggie for peace of mind.

Phil_h - Big service on an RSV is every other service and includes a shim check/adjust. They cost around £400.

It's Ducati

If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it;)

chief 15-Feb-2006 19:17

Last time anything came your way it cost a monkey!....at least i've got 2 kidneys...but only 1 monkey to spank

madmav 15-Feb-2006 19:19

Chief typical of you to throw your monkey into the equation:roll:

Sorry buddy......I should know better by now

Just did mine not two weeks ago....$220 US for everything. I did the bulk of all of it myself including checking the valve clearances. I had two openers that needed adjusting so took it to the shop completely stripped all the way down, including the valve covers for that. The $220 included adjusting the new valves, adjusting belt tension, oil filter & washers for me to finish up at home. I even got to hang out in the shop while the guy was finishing up and learned how to do my own belt adjustments from now on. Luckily, all my vavle clearances are dead middle of the road and considering how this bike is not a track bike, odds are in my favor they will never need adjusting again...but I'll still check when required. I would think any dealer would work with you and cut a deal like my guy did.

Kinda off subject but....you guys always talk in pounds, celsius, and nm's, but you use miles for distance instead of km's a lot of the time??? Just curious?

KeefyB 16-Feb-2006 06:38

Yep we still use the mile for measureing road distances,we are not quite fully European yet!
Oh yeah, and we still drive on the left.:)

galaxy 16-Feb-2006 19:25

Do you guys change the display on your bikes to read miles/F* or is it in km's/C*?? I know you can change that on your own and the directions are in the owners manual. I ask because I know these bikes "think" in metric regardless of what display you have set. Even though we do a 6,000 mile service, it's still technically a 10,000 km service and the little service wrench comes on at 10,000 km's regardless of what type of display you have selected.

ROACHMAN 16-Feb-2006 20:16

Just had the 2 year service done on my 999r - £530 at Moto Rapido

The bikes default setting is MPH/deg C.Have'nt bothered changing it.
Oh yeah, the spanner light first comes on after 627 miles.(approx 1000km)

galaxy 16-Feb-2006 21:51

So there's a setting that has mph and C*??? I missed that one. That's cool. I'm actually used to C since I use it for everything at work. For my 6,000 mile service the wrench came on at 6,215.

ROACHMAN 17-Feb-2006 17:43

Dseered, it was 3800 miles. The £530 included fixing the headlights (blown relay) which was £55.

twpd 19-Feb-2006 10:42

These servicing costs are ludicrous. £500 or so for a twin-cylinder motorcycle? My 748 is pretty much in retirement these days and that's where it's staying. Even if the new bikes weren't so ugly, these sort of servicing costs would put me right off - the residuals still plummet despite having fsh so, it's not like a fsh really makes any difference to that. It's a joke.
