2002 749r. Ohlins Fork. Ohlins Rearshock. Ohlins Steering Damper. Slipper Clutch. Gold Wheels. Gold mesh protection in front of radiator. Tank is signed by Foggorty and is a official Ducati product. All history, paperwork and booklets. Carbon mirrors. Carbon Undertray (not sure if undertray is carbon anyway?) [Edited on 16-2-2006 by RCA] |
Somewhere between £5.5 and £6k |
Looks like the 748 has morphed into a 749 ;) Moto Rapido just sold a 2001 748R without the Foggy signature but otherwise same spec and 12,000 miles for £5895 |

2002 749R.... Interesting :rolleye: I'm guessing you mean 748R? Gold wheels? 5 spoke I hope? should be grey and I believe the front is lighter than the standard 5 spoke ally marchesini also |
You should haggle for a discount over the following.... Foggy sig... Gold mesh...FFS! Gold wheels... |
sorry my mistake 748R, uckin hell all these numbers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wheels are standard, just powder coated gold, god knows why, said it looks better?!?!:puzzled: [Edited on 16-2-2006 by RCA] |
Should have carbon Termi's/ DP chip/ paddock stand as well as standard cans and chip, were all standard with an R :) Darren |
Should have 50mm (I think) carbon termi's with it also and race ECU (chip) as well as the fitted standard cans. Also the stand and possibly a cover? |
2002 748r. Ohlins Fork. Ohlins Rearshock. Ohlins Steering Damper. Slipper Clutch. Gold Wheels. Gold mesh protection in front of radiator. Tank is signed by Foggorty and is a official Ducati product. At a dealer in Lincoln 748R 2002 51 Reg Ducati 748 R 748 cc, 11,000 miles, Red. A chance to get your hands on one of the most iconic Ducati's made the Stunning 748R. This one was supplied by ourselves and has a comprehensive service portfolio again all done by ourselves, and has the benefit of a Datatool Alarm (Cat 1) Datatag, D. £7,250. I normally go by the rule that a dealer is £1k over private price due to warranty/px etc, but at the end of the day it's down to what you want to pay and if it's the bike for you Darren [Edited on 16-2-2006 by LesPaul] |
5.5K tops then without the extras.... but I would ask why he hasn't got the cans etc? and why were the wheels repainted? Maybe I am being over cautious here but a 748R is a rare bike and most people, myself included would keep everything that came with it [Edited on 16-2-2006 by JPM] |
I would not trust it without the cans/chip, etc ....... & the wheel business sounds rather odd! |
Ducati Leeds have a very nice 02 R. £7750. R prices seem to be on the up a bit. I think it's probably a bit on the pricey side but, it's in excellent condition. As has been said - R's are rare and I can't conceivably imagine why anyone wouldn't keep all the gear with it. For the bike in question I wouldn't buy it without all the gear - a set of 50mm pipes is not cheap. It's a bit like buying an SP which was made from a converted Bip. |
Wheels is a looks thing, so I guess that's just choice. Bit mad though IMHO. The cans/stand/cover missing might indicate an owner who needed the cash from them. Did they service the bike on the cheap too? Makes you think... With an R, I wouldn't pay top money unless it's perfect and has all the goodies. |

Might be personal but you wouldn't say paint 996R panels yellow for example and devalue a rare bike, same with the wheels IMO. It sounds to me like it's had a bang, wrecked the cans and possibly bent the wheels... |
guy wants, £5k, but he is been cagey about the bikes history (wheels, tank, cans, etc)... |
If you're not happy walk... |
I've just paid £6500 for an 03 plate 748R with 3200 miles in a private sale. I think I paid strong money for the bike but it is just pristine and the last owner was fanatical about the bike. I'd much rather pay a wee bit more for the right bike rather than buy a cheap bike which isn't 100%. |
Is this the on on E BAY, if it is then be careful it was advertised late last year and i spoke to the guy about it. Ad has been reworded if its the same bike. Smells funny if you ask me. Ask him some searching questions about its history, who serviced it etc. |
Yeah, we talked at length (think he is Danish), did ask some searching questions, and I think he is still searching for the answers... D_O_D_G_E_! :frog: |
RCA, Would need to see a better picture to be 100% certain but from this angle I think the bike is wearing a biposto subframe (pillion footrest mount and same colour as frame, should be alloy and look like it) plus the discs are not mounted on the right carriers, (should be spoked). The rest of the items could just be a matter of taste; mirrors wheels, std cans etc. But if it’s an R you want then it has to be 100% pukka. Hope this has helped, as already said if you're feeling doubtful then walk, plenty of nice genuine 'R's out there :D |
I would not worry too much about the BP subframe. I had to do the same to my 748R as a condition of owning the bike. You do know you have to get permission from the wife before you can own one don't you. Only needed it about 3 times a year mind. In fact still got the original ally subframe in the garage. |
Is it a UK bike? |
748r The brake calipers are wrong also they should be P34's |
I have reported the clown to Ebay and sent him an nice email advising him that in future he either carries out his own research prior to listing the bike to establish exactly what it is he is selling, or be more truthful in his listening / description. What this guy is selling is not in fact a genuine 748R but is in fact a ‘hybrid’ Ducati made up of various parts taken off various other Ducatis. Iam just thankful I did not agree to a sale/price away from ebay, and then drive 250 miles in the van only to discover he had totally wasted my time. The guy is a disgrace to biking. Thank you all very much for the above advice it has saved me from wasting any more of my time. Knowledge is certainly power! |
So how did you work out it was a hybrid then???? |

Not true. I've seen new R's with a variety of calipers. IMO the best way of identifying an R is to check the injectors in the airbox, check for an oil cooler and check the length of the loom to the ECU in the alloy subframe. The brake and suspension specification of R's varies quite a lot. Also, being an R it should come with the appropriate paperwork saying it is an R. I don't think the guy is a disgrace really - no more so than those who have "SP-spec" Bips etc. He might be truly ignorant of the differences and bought it as an R or he might have thrown the bike together to pass it off as an R but, really you have no way of knowing this for sure. If you check out the picture you can see what looks like fluid on the floor, could have a leak.....:o Walk away my friend |
