New 695cc engine - more fun for 2007???

Copied from a post on UKMOC - cheers Zimbo;) - which Zimbo found on a USA site:

"Ducati has finally sat down and made it's entry level engine that much more exciting. The small air-cooled L-twin has got a 75cc volume increase and 10 extra horsepower. This makes the new 695 the most powerful air-cooled Ducati per c.i. ever. The new Monster 695 will replace the old 620 already in April in Europe and the rest of the world this Autumn. This also means the 620 Multistrada is in the pipeline for the new engine that it really needed. Full press release with official pictures tomorrow after the Paris launch. With a new 73bhp engine the entry level Monster can more easily carry some extra luggage or a pillion."

Please can everyone NOT tell AK..................:o

Our racers can get into enough trouble with what they already have, they dont need any more speed!

domski 21-Feb-2006 17:39

But if it is true, then surely Ducati will want their 'current' model represented in the series?

fil2 21-Feb-2006 17:41

Ooh!

You just don't get it do you.

We have to start with 800's so that in 2008 we can let 1000's in and make the 800's obsolete.

Keep up big boy ;)

Mark 22-Feb-2006 14:11

The Monster 695 is a most unique offering in the world of motorcycles -- a motorcycle that is welcoming to novice riders, yet delivers a level of performance that can thrill advanced riders.

Just like the bike, the extensive range of accessories and apparel for the Ducati Monster 695 make every ride a more thrilling experience. Here are a few that are sure to please.

Fairing & seat cover

A colour matched fairing and seat cover add a sporting look to the 695 and also enhance every ride with improved wind protection. Both include all required mounting hardware and make installation simple.

Engine Performance Kit

The 695’s new engine boasts increased horsepower and torque, while also producing a smoother and more fluid power delivery. But even higher power lurks inside the 695 waiting to be released by the Ducati Engine Performance Kit. Termignoni carbon fibre silencers, a dedicated Marelli ECU and high efficiency air filter combine to unleash the 695’s full potential.

Yes.

psychlist 22-Feb-2006 20:25

No surprise at all, it was being discussed openly by the DD Race Committee (well the Chris Bushell/John Montgomery part of it) with Tim Macabee at the NEC last November so must have been "known about" before then ;)

Yes but, why would you? The 800ss is eligible now and has more potential. As does the 800M. Mind you, what now the 800M? The gap between the 695 and 800 is narrow enough for the 800 to be axed.

Agreed, the 800 surely must make more torque and have more potential for a monster midrange?

Mmmmmm ...

God, wouldn't you love to race an 800 in minitwins! ;)

twpd 22-Feb-2006 21:05

I shall have my PC in my grubby hands next week and shortly after some Ti race cans. They're going on the new 800 whilst the other one is undergoing some surgery. Dyno runs in a week or two - I shall post the charts up here. Did you know that the latest PC's allow you to add some extra tweaks that simulate the accelerator pumps on flatsides? That should be interesting for instantaneous response exiting corners.

As for torque - mine's making well over 50lb-ft now. :D I promise you a go when it's all sorted m8.

twpd 22-Feb-2006 21:09

Are there any technical details of this 695? It sounds like they've probably done the same thing with the 695 as they did with the 800. Longer stroke, more valve lift and shorter duration. That seems to work well with the 2vlv motors - I think Moto-One does a good appraisal of the 800 summarising how they developed it.

Ooh, that sounds interesting. This thing sounds like it would be a real weapon in the class!!

I can't wait to have a go on it! At Cadwell please, I'll order the sun and plenty of it!! And a brand new set of supercorsa pro's. Mmmmm

electricsheep 22-Feb-2006 21:20

not sure about the 800ss, but the s2r monster only makes an extra 4bhp and is heavier. than the 695

twpd 22-Feb-2006 21:26

My 800ss is making 77bhp at 8200 with std pipes, filter and fuelling after a little tweak I found. More important was the midrange boost I got. I posted the chart up elsewhere in the SS forum. The S2R is less powerful than the 800M according to various sources. Whilst the 695 sounds good I doubt it will touch a well set up 800.

I've just added all the info to ducati-upnorth.com click here for more details. More HP and longer service intervals, woo hoo

There's a little on the Ducati site, they've gone the other way with a shorter stroke and upped the bore to 88mm. Valves are up 3 & 2mm, don't know about the lift/duration.

My 900 only made 73 before the flatslides......... :( When I were a lad we ate nails and drank mud, them were the days.....

twpd 22-Feb-2006 22:58

Sounds really good with excellent advances in the FI now using a lambda sensor. The increased service intervals are good too - looks like it's the most advanced of the 2vlv motors yet. Interesting to note that they've gone the other way with bore and stroke - I guess it's how they can get more gas flow and revs without killing the pistons.

couchcommando 03-Mar-2006 13:46

Only just seen this about this new engine, I'd hope that next year it isn't allowed as it would seriously devalue my 620.
I guess we're going to have to wait and see :)
