BEEN TO THE DYNO

Hi all.
Well finnaly Got the lil beastie on the dyno today. A few of you have PM`d and asked if the advancing of the cams were worth it.......The answer is yes and no.
We did 28 runs this morning to get the fueling spot on, which was still set up for the BB kit. With the kit we were getting 49bhp And todays best run on 583 cyls was 1 bhp more:sing:
The midrange is still very good but the bike is now reving and holding on to its power curve to a scary10500rpm:o:o
I was Cacking me pants at first but it seems very happy up there. Last year it dropped off the end of the world at 8500rpm.
So was it worth it ?? Dunno yet has to be the answer, I will have to ride it I suppose., Im happy with the result And i will be even happier if it lasts as season reving it to 10.5K.... And if not Skids is bound to have a spare engine under the sink.
So in conclusion, If you have 52 bhp and i beat you Im having your engine, Second amendment to rule 36b, (wasting BHP):sing:
Will post giraff Later
Glyn

Have you not bypassed the rev limiter, then?

:burn:

twpd 22-Feb-2006 18:36

If you can hold onto power for longer even though you're not delivering any more then it means you have a measure of increased flexibility. An ability to rev longer can mean less gear changes and lower gearing for better acceleration.

As a matter of interest, seeing as power is a function of torque and engine speed, what is the torque compared to before?

twpd 22-Feb-2006 18:39

Do 583's have rev limiters? I wish I could dispense with the limiter on my 800ss - that really is holding back the motor from producing more - as it is the limiter is brutal and kicks in bang on 8900 so, what I've managed to do is increase mid-range power and torque instead.

Scooter916 22-Feb-2006 19:43

No limiter on mine:burn:
Well there is I think its when the rods stretch and hit the heads, but I aint got that far yet:lol:
Torque has remained pretty much as it was, i think my BB kit was set up by a muppet tho to be honest, As skids can confirm his 583 last year was pulling away from me down the caddy back straight, Which aint right.
Nige cant the powercomanders up the limiter?? or are they just fueling on your bike?
Im sure its possible Just finding out how isnt it.

Mate my ass was the limiter.... When it got to 5p diameter i shut the throttle.

The PC is just doing the fuelling Scoots. An FIM Ultimap ECU is the answer of course but, as mentioned elsewhere here, it's not permitted under Minitwin rules. I'm looking forward to getting the PC though as with with the filter, pipes and the PC I'm expecting to break the 80bhp barrier.

Advance the cam's with a 180 degree offset woodruff key :)

£15 each from JHP

Scooter916 22-Feb-2006 23:01

Dom
Not Quite like Kye says , but yea By dialing in the cams to a figure easilly obtainable from the net. You may have 52 bhp but I would guess its all up the top end, Retarding the cams will give you a top end rush that makes you think the bike is quick, What if:eureka: you could have that punch throughout the entire rev range..

Come on then, spill it all

Scooter916 22-Feb-2006 23:51

I have no secrets, i will tell you all. Its quite simple really, you do have to remove the engine from the frame to do it and its a bit of a struggle but once the front cylinger is put on the back and vice versa the bike will run like a dream..........:frog:

skidlids 22-Feb-2006 23:59

Well Glyn I will see if its a improvement on the 675 as my 583 is untouched from when I picked up the engine from the breakers apart from a couple of Oil and filter changes.
If you come sailing past me on Park Straight I'll be impressed :o
