Trip/Fuel \'computer\'

Can anybody actually get their fuel consumption/av.speed figures etc to read anything like something that would make sense? The screen says miles per gallon/mph etc but the figures just don't stand up.
:(

dickieducati 25-Aug-2003 17:40

in a word, no, it crap quite frankly. tho everything else on the dash is good.

KeefyB 26-Aug-2003 06:23

Hmm,yes I know what you mean.I think something got lost in the Litres per Kilometer translation.
Mine worked out I was using 2 gallons to a mile. The bike must have a 300 gallon fuel tank then!

luckywhiteheather 26-Aug-2003 14:24

I take comfort from fact that others are experiencing similar problem with on-board 'computer'. At least I'm not a complete donkey.....or if I am at least I'm not alone!!
Still pretty P'd off though that damn thing doesn't work... even Ducati Dealer couldn't fathom it out. Like you Keefyboy I thought perhaps it just needed recalibrated from litres/kilometre etc and that they might have had a piece of software for said purpose but alas no such luck!
One more thing... If I'm right in saying you picked yours up in mid-June have you yet received your Desmo Owners Club/Roadside Assistance Card from our nice friends in Bologna? I haven't and I've been waiting since end of May! Didn't even take this long with 996 at the beginning of last year. :o

KeefyB 26-Aug-2003 21:38

Yeah,I asked about recaibrating the 'pooter too,...........as you say,no such luck.Ah well, back to the tried and trusted method of resetting the trip after every fill up.

Oh,and yep,still waiting for the DDOC/Assistance card.
Gawd knows how long it will take for the 999's card!;)

luckywhiteheather 27-Aug-2003 17:53

Got in touch with Ducati UK earlier today re-delay with all accessories. Have to say got a pretty quick response asking for specific details of what I'd ordered, where and when. They suggest everything should be available by end of Sept. but are going to come back to me re-definitive dates.
I've also raised the issue of the useless fuel/trip 'computer' and poor fit of pannier lids. I let you know when I get a response to these issues.:(

KeefyB 02-Sep-2003 21:58

Hey lwh,guess what?
My DDOC/Ducati Assistance card turned up today!
Wonders will never cease!;)

Jools 03-Sep-2003 10:57

Just a thought...

Since I've spent quite a lot of time working in France I know that our European neighbours don't measure fuel consumption in miles per gallon (obviously) or even kilometres per litre.

They measure it in litres per 100 kilometres.

Could it be that the imperial conversion is actually giving you gallons per 100 km? If that was the case you would be using 2 gallons every 62 miles = 31mpg

Even better if they were converting it at gallons per 100 miles in which case it would work out at 50mpg.

Either way those figures would at least be in the right ballpark

KeefyB 03-Sep-2003 12:29

You may be right mate.
Its a bit poor, tho, when dealers and even Ducati UK cant give a definative answer.

luckywhiteheather 03-Sep-2003 12:46

Wait a minute, guys! Ducati UK are now on the case following on from my having contacted them about various issues apart from Fuel/Trip Comp. They suggest decimal point might be in wrong place, which may be plausible but I've to take bike into Dealer to have them comment/report (not that they've beenable to in the past) direct to DucatiUK.
As for accessories I have confirmation that virtually everything I ordered, including Termis, will be available at the end of month, although this is subject to formal confirmation following an 'Accessories Meeting' in Italy next week apparently.
Keefyboy, good news on DDOC card, I assume this was for MS and not 999? DUK are trying to track mine down.:P

KeefyB 03-Sep-2003 22:19

Yeah, the DDOC card is for the 'Strada.
I think that Ducati have shot theirselves in the foot by not getting the accesories out the same time as the bikes.Think of all the extra revenue it generates.Hmm,nice bike, but nicer with a Termi system, taller screen, hugger, carbon belly pan.All that gear has got to add up to over a grands worth.
I had a lovely DP catalogue given to me with the bike, shame none of its available.

I'll check the fuel consumption reading next time I'm out on the bike. The decimal point answer sounds daft, but it just might be right. Some logic in there, somewhere.I'll be honest, and say I'd given up with it and gone back to resetting the trip.Maybe I'll take it up to Congleton at the weekend to try it.

KB, Looks like DUK could be right about decimal point. Checked it out on a short ride last week and readings certainly made more sense shifting decimal point to the right!
I've just been advised that local dealer has been instructed to order up new replacement console on instructions of DUK who have discussed problem with dealer. I've asked DUK to confirm that they have identified this issue as being a result of faulty batch of consoles or other problem and that replacing console will definitely fix problem. I don't want them using my bike to try and resolve bigger issue by trial and error!
Oh and yes, I've also asked when console is likely to be available!
I'll keep you updated!...

Good work that man.Looks like the mystery could be solved.

BTW,if the decimal point thing is correct, then the bike was averaging 47mpg up to Congleton and back.(250 miles)Dropping to the low 30's on the A50.

luckywhiteheather 10-Sep-2003 15:23

KB, your fuel consumption sounds about right, always assuming that you were of course in slow moving traffic on the A50 and not risking the wrath of the boys in blue!
DUK won't tell me if they identified this as a design/installation fault, only that replacement of console should/will resolve problem, They also suggest that, "any others who are experiencing similar difficulties should contact their local dealer".
As for availability I'm reliably informed that parts should be available within 2-5days of Dealer ordering. Yeah right, that'll be a first for Ducat!
I'll keep you updated!

The decimal point is in the wrong place on one of the readings. I had new clocks fitted a couple of weeks ago & now the readings are all fine. The fuel gauge/miles to empty has not got more accurate though. I just rode back from Italy (did the Centopassi) & when the gauge was showing empty the tank would only take 14 litres, I think it holds 21! The hard seat seems to get softer with use, or I have just got used to it, but I did 2000 miles on it in a week, including 13 hours in the saddle on the way home, & it was fine. Had the taller screen fitted & that makes a huge differance on the motorway.
