My 2014 bikes 2 Attachment(s) Following on from my time for a change thread http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/sh...d.php?t=208171 I'm going to make the most of the time over Xmas and get on with my two bikes and sort out a harness for Dallas's new DD bike, as well as rebuild a 620 engine that needed a replacement crank Below firstly is a pic of where I was at with the #1 bike and the second pic is just about where I am with the #2 bike, although both bikes now have Exhaust headers and a 2 into 1 conversion Hopefully by the new year they will have progressed some |
Started rebuilding the 620 engine today. Tomorrow morning will be spent shimming the gearbox and the crankshaft and then bolting both cases together before heading over to H-Cafe for lunch :) |
Interesting Kev, what yokes are those in the No1 bike? |
Quote:
Monster ones just that the top yoke is upside down |

And that's exactly what happened, got the cases bolted together then headed over the cafe to meet up with Andy & Karen Claridge, Kev and Trudi Palmer and we were also joined by Steve Baden who was the only one of us foolish enough to be on his bike, then again his wrist hasn't been out of plaster that long following his crash at Pembrey (1st Visit) so good to see him riding again, just a shame the it really tipped it down just as we left H-Cafe Few pics of the engine rebuild |
4 Attachment(s) Bit more assembled |
Manuals funny ha ha 2 Attachment(s) Manuals Don't you just love them Two pictures of Extracts from the 620 workshop manual What inner spacer behind the Primary gear Which is the smaller valve pocket in the top of the piston |
With the first 620 engine now only needing the Alternator cover fitting (need to get some more liquid gasket) I decided to strip a 583 bottom end I recently bought off Ebay. The cases need throwing as the rear engine mount is damaged beyond repair. The Crank will go into another 583 engine I have where the Alternator came loose and damaged the end of the crank. The remainder will come in handy when I rebuild the ex James Thompson/Chris Woods 583 DD engine Some bikes have expensive gasket sets required for a rebuild but not our DD bikes so helps keep the costs of a rebuild down |

why turn it upside down? |

Clipon positioning, unlike the one on your supersport the Monster yoke is stepped leaving little room to place the clipons below the yoke How you getting on with fitting the 916 tank to the SS frame, I was hoping to have seen some photos by now |
canned the idea .. too difficult I'm doing the same as you now and building a fresh bike from a monster frame 916 tank will go on that Will run my old bike with a fresh engine till it's sorted |
How much modifying can you do to the sub frame? Was reading through the regs this aft .. and I take it as as long as I used steel I can remodel the back end how I like as long at It measured 35 cm and I take the sub frame as anything past the last structural point |
Can you not just use the yoke from an ss on the monster? |
Quote:
Different stems |
Quote:
Not quite The subframe needs to remain standard up to 35 centremeters from the reference point, beyond that it can be modified and incorporates a bar of some form across the back between the two frame rails |
1 Attachment(s) Slow Progress as I'm spending more time in Qatar than the UK of late and when I have been back I've spent more time either working on engines or Dallas's DD bike than my own, as I always have the option of using last years bike at Brands |
Still need to sort the footrests, Bellypan, Seat Pad and swap the forks and shock |
Exhaust looks sweet Kev ... was thinking of a GP style one myself |
Less than a week and I can continue my 2014 prep :) |
Quote:
Almost 3 weeks on and nothing has changed on my 2014 projects So today I have finished off getting the old DD bike ready for Brands and the Van is now MOT'd and Taxed Still a couple of weeks to try and get one of the Monsters ready for the Brands Test day |

2 Attachment(s) Progress at last New Chain sliders/guides, New Chain and New Case Guard fitted Small Allen bolt behind the front sprocket lockwired Forks swapped from ST2 adjustable ones to 750 Supersport ones containing Mupo Cartridges Bars now fitted above the yokes Still quite a bit to do such as fitting a Reg/Rec, Tacho, Seat Pad, along with sorting out the gear change, bellypan, battery retainer and the fairing mount that the Brake Mastercylinder fouls on soon as you add a bit of left lock |
not much time left now kev! think i've done all i can to mine for now and serviced my van ready- will i be able to weigh mine at brands before we start to check i haven't taken too much weight off it? (my attempts with bathroom scales not to be trusted!) |
Quote:
Luckily for me last years bike is ready to go Quote:
I'm Not sure what weighing Scales will be available at Brands if any |
2 Attachment(s) Quote:
All the above now sorted, so nearly ready for its maiden outing on the Brands Test day. Just waiting for the seat foam to arrive the only things left to do are oil and filter change, then lockwire everything up. Then make some spacers and brackets and get the Bellypan fitted. |

Blimey... Nearly a Grand! (But cheaper than Ohlins cartridges ;) ) |

Less than half of that Frank Dallas bought them for the 2012 Desmo Due season and at the first round at Brands he had to remove them as they just didn't work, he returned them to Go Racing Developments where he got them and they handed them back a few weeks later saying they should work now. So at Snetterton he tried them again, after one session they were back out of the bike. I did him a deal against some other bits and then whipped them out of the ST forks they were in and put them in a set of Longer Supersport ones as they had been trying to extend the ST forks to far. Hopefully I will get to see if they are now working on Friday, but have no info on oil grade or air gap. So will probably need some set up time but so long as they don't stick like they did to Dallas, I will know I'm going in the right direction, he came in from the session at Snetterton with over 2 inches of travel not used. So I want to see my cable tie less than an inch from the bottom casting after a session and I'll be happy |

well I can't say Brands went to plan as the new bike just didn't want to run right and by the time I had cleaned the fuel pump and changed the fuel filter to get it running properly there were only a couple of sessions left in the day to get out on it. I used the first of those sessions to Scrub new tyres on the race bike and then went up to pit lane for the final session to try out the new bike. Only to have the final session canceled due to an incident on track where a couple of bikes came together and then deposited Antifreeze on to the track. Still even just riding it up to the pit lane and back and a couple of times around the lower paddock I gathered some info on things that need sorting Firstly the seat is to low, so I will be adding an extra layer of foam. The standard allen bolts for the footrest plates catch on my boots so they will be replaced with domed headed bolts. The clutch needs looking at and possibly replacing as there is a lot of drag and a nice lurch forward every time I put it in gear. So tomorrow I will start looking at addressing these issues |

Right that's the Allen bolts changed and hopefully the Clutch is now sorted |

D1ckheads, Bernie the scrute was complaining about this when I took the poorly Badger to him after our tumble. Could this have a bearing on why 3 of us had the same crash at the same part of the track within 5 seconds of each other and all 3 offs totally separate? |
Doubt it unless all three crashed coming down from Druids to Graeme Hill as I believe thats where the Anti Freeze incident took place. |

Pahahahahaaaaa, that'll be why I got 26 points instead of 75! If it wasn't antifreeze it must've been stupidity or lack of vision, those hailstones hide themselves well. |

Badgers see better at night, close your eyes next time ;) Chris :burn: |
Sensible badgers don't run round race tracks with 30 motorbikes though. :o |
