1st Muppet of 2006? OK, I dropped the beast. Would probably sound good if I said I highsided her getting on the gas too early while trying to stuff an R1 out of Charlies, alas I would be fibbing! Reality was I dropped it on the sencond lap out on the entry to Charlie 1, although I thought I was "cruising" and gently warming things through, I obviously wasn't "cruising" enough! Got absolutely no warning at all, the thing simply lowsided and slid onto the grass. Busted the footpeg and brake peg and scuffed my no longer shiny new fairings, but was out again next session and the fairings will soon fix up. Despite the right hand lowside, the Corse carbon clutch cover protected the clutch! Coincidentally, two other riders came off at the same spot, one of them in more or less exactly the same spot - his scrape markes run about 2inches parallel to mine! So it's official, unless there are some other takers, Yeti claims the 2006 Muppet of the Year award. FWIW, the track temp today was two thirds of naff all, and whilst the sun came out for a while, it was soon followed by snow/sleet/hail showers! Ah well, teach me to track in February! :(:(:(:(:(:(:( |
bugger!:( |

Come on now really!!! Redmist was it???:lol::lol: You sound like Yella.....;) "Now Lisa...be careful, take it easy, we are tracking in March...they have had to defrost the track, keep off the throttle till later in the day blah de blah de blah"............ THEN he subsequently took a stack of turf home from halls!!! ;) I didn't come off (said in a high pitched smug girlie voice!) Hope you're not to sore sweetie (in more ways than one:( ) Chin up it's only fairings and levers:P :P:P:P |
congrats mate... at least you're taking it with the right attitude. well done. |
what tyres you on jon? did you use warmers? apart from the spill, you pleased with your bike? |
really sorry to hear that you dropped her but as for the first muppet of 2006 i think i beat you to it when i dropped my bike off the work bench having just finished it - with the result it smashed the screen to pieces ( i had no spare ) and collected my 600ss and leg on the way down........! hope you get it sorted soon - look forward to seeing it ! |

Soon be sorted, and Guido will hopefully post some of the pics he took of her later on. Am dying to see the real close up pics he took of some of the bikeporn.... |
loverobot, you only get the award for binning it on TD's :) |

Was running 207GP's, I was using warmer's but my front one seems to have stopped working between Donny last November and today, so YES, the tyres were cold. FWIW, JR pitched up for a while and he said there was no way he would have gone out today on anything less than full wets, the softer the better and stuff the expense. Am I pleased with the bike? If I'm honest the spill really screwed my confidence, so didn't really feel like pushing it. Even though I've dropped bikes before, I've always known why. This one truly shocked me. I quite genuinely believed I was taking it really steady, and I got no warning at all. In later sessions I could feel her telling me that she was about to let go, which made the spill all the more baffling. That said I found that by taping up 3/4 of the rad it kept the engine temp up in the high 70's so the misfire seems to have gone. Looks like it was the cold start system after all. However, she was definately overgeared for Cadwell, Corsa's run a very tall first gear, and I found I could hold 1st all the way from the entry to the chicane right onto the start/finish straight, so I'm def gonna drop the gearing when I next run Cadwell. Still don't think she's picking up as cleanly as she should, but that was maybe just me being a woose with the throttle, I probably needed to open her up a bit harder. Plus Cadwell definately showed me the suspension is set too soft, but that's easily rectified. Just need to decide whether to risk another cold and wet one on 12th March, or wait for "hopefully" better weather. |
go on yeti, do the 12th march date if its the silverstone one sorry about the spill but the sooner you ride again the more confidence you will regain |

how about the fact that i was meant to be on that trackday having booked and paid and the dropping off the bench meant i couldnt?! :) |
Quote:
Nah, don't count mate. You actually have to bin it on track. In point of fact, didn't it used to be you had to bin it on a DSC trackday? Sorry Loverobot, you're not gonna take it away from me that easily! |
Glad you made it home John. Sorry I missed you setting of. I was freezin my Butt off out at Chris Curve fighting off hail stones etc. I'm in the process of downloing the pics to the PC. Tis taking a while as I took over 1100 today despite frostbite:o Will post what I have of you which was a few post spill. Glad you're ok and not too dispondant. Gc |

I hung around for a good while after that last burst of freezin white stuff but assumed you had already gone ome' Will look forward to seeing some of the pics later, especially the close-ups. Intrigued to see how these come out. Hope the day proves worthwhile for you. J |
Bugga:( Was there today with Yeti. Two others went down at Charlies 1, so not too sure why. I certainly didn't see or feel anything out of the ordinary at that particular corner, but it was v cold and we had a hail-storm for a bit. Bike wasn't damaged much, but even still, what an absolute cracker of a bike and the sound from the 60mm Termi's, oh lovely:) See you on Sunday the 12th at Cadwell again? WeeJohnyB |

Hope so! Might try to get the thing dyno'd first and see how the fuelling looks on a curve. |
Ya daft git.... you do know it's still winter don't you ??? But hope you are ok and get everything sorted soon. |
It was good to see the beast up close & to say hello, Shame about the gravel rash, but looking at her it will soon heal;), more importantly you were ok, just a bit of pride. Charlies in is a strange corner, there are a few bumps just off line, found them myself a few years back(first lap out) so welcome to the Charlies in club:( Weather looked good till that big black cloud unloaded copiouse amounts of hail:o, but it is Febuary. Chris.:burn: |
Bloody idiot! ;) Main thing is you're OK and the bike fairer very well, glad you're OK mate, rather you than me in this weather though and especially Cadwell (don't they get one warm day a year?) |
you mean people ride bikes in February ? ;) at least you're ok and the bike didn't flip over and distroy itself! now listen to JR, or put it away untill it warms up a bit |
Cadwell 26th I'm in the process of downloing the pics to the PC. Could you please tell me when the pictures from cadwell on sunday will be on the Copeimages website? Hey Yeti, That booming noise haunted me all the way home on sunday, no doubt that sunday wont be the last time I hear it lurking behind me! Despite of the weather I had a really good time and with yours and Chris's help I felt like had learnt more than I would have on a dry and warm track. Cheers lads. How do I join DSC and book some places on the trackdays? :) |

Yeti mate, Hope the damage is as minor to your confidence as it sounds to your bike. Still trying to regain mine fully after the two offs i had last year but we did Oulton on saturday and it was sunny as chuff and funny enough my front tyre warmer packed in too? :puzzled: Sending em back to Diasec tomorrow for a service and a check over ;) Hope you get there on the 12th, I will be back at Oulton on the 14th but might make a trip down to cadders to check out the new steed :D |

It was icy when I parked it. That's my excuse and I'm stickin to it...besides you all nearly fell over each other to get it unstuck for me!!!:frog::P;) |

Only cos we wanted to see how warm you had left the drivers seat :bouncy: ;) :alien: |

This is pretty worrying. When I crashed there in October the front washed out on me in an instant, no warning whatsoever. As I'd hit the corner at the same speed about 100 times in the last 48hrs I can't believe I was going more than 5mph faster. At the time I blamed it on cold tyres because the corner isn't negative camber, but I still look back and can't believe how fast the front dropped away. Even the marshal said he thought it had to be liquid on the track... Cheers, Ali |
Quote:
My marshall said the same thing. He couldn't believe I fell over. He reckoned I was about as slow as a slow thing that's dead! Very strange that two others went down in the same place too! Ah well, the trial and tribulations! :sing::sing: |
Quote:
Pics are up there now Matt. Glad you had fun, despite my off it was fun! You doing the 12th then? |
Quote:
maybe you were going that slow you just fell off the side ??? you make it too easy sometimes :) |
i carnt see no photos on copeimages? |

Well you obviously not looking closely enough. Try: http://www.copeimages.com/Nolimits.htm |
I dont want this to sound daft, and it might! but is the trackday on the 12th at cadwell or silverstone? I was meant to take the cbr to grantham honda for its mot and service today but they wanted it in for 8.30 and we still had an inch of snow covered ice then so i didnt go. If the bike is ready for the 12th I might go but it needs ANOTHER!!! cam chain tensioner and i have to rebook it in and tell them about it. And find someone to buy it in the mean time! At least when you fell you made sure you were cautious there afterwards, that guy on the R1 that overtook us shortly before his demise mustn't have seen you fall. :) |
