skidlids 01-Mar-2006 00:35

Sorry WJB doing Silverstone GP instead as its 130 miles closer to home than Cadwell and has garages with electric, so I'll be using my tyre warmers and the kettle.
Couple of sessions on the DD bike and then its either the 996 or the 750SSie

DP 01-Mar-2006 01:12

I will be attending for the first ride of dd bike 55 :biaggi:
Look Forward to seeing you there snow permitting !!!!!

Rattler 01-Mar-2006 10:13

I'm there too!!!! Looking forward to it!!

You must be some kind of jinx John, forecast today is for rain and bloody snow!!
I got my order for wets in with Mark at least!

Jen.

WeeJohnyB 10-Mar-2006 14:11

nah, depends where you look for the weather, it varies from zero degrees overnight and snow to 8 degrees and light fluffy clouds.

We all know Cadwell will do whatever it wants and there is no real point in looking at the weather in Louth or Horncastle as it can be completely different at the circuit.

I recall one race meet last year where we ended up going home early as it was cold wet and very foggy, so we packed up and as we turned left out of the circuit it was dry and sunny - you could see Cadwell bathed in a cloud.

Also seen quite the reverse where there's been a little hole in the sky just above Cadwell for the sun to shine through.

It'll be what it'll be, so see you all there.

yeti 10-Mar-2006 14:55

Not gonna be there after all. Got a couple of problems with the beast that I want to sort out first.

May take a run over if I can get the 4x4 through the snow drifts tho'

Rattler 10-Mar-2006 19:03

It was snowing in the morning at Brands a couple of weeks ago and it turned out to be a great day.

So I'll be there come what may - its all time on the bike. And if it can be cold on Sunday, it can be cold in two weeks time when we are racing there!!!

Can we go race yet? ;)

Tim

Guido 10-Mar-2006 20:25

See you there folks.

Wil be good to catch up Tim.

Grib posting here....
We didn't get snowed in after all! Cracking day, albeit bloody freezing cold. Unfortunately Rattler had a bit of a mishap in the last session and his bike's not looking so good now :( Loads of crashes, people losing the front all over the place....it was just a little too chilly to press on.

Dibble 12-Mar-2006 21:08

Rattlers ok though, just spoken to him, he was just entereing an Indian eatery with Nelly ..... damage is mainly "sticky out bits" on the bike .....

ericthered40 12-Mar-2006 21:21

Thanks dibs good to hear he's not done to much damage and hasn't lost he's apatite. Nice curry should get some warmth back in to him, Nelly that is if he was there watching.

WeeJohnyB 13-Mar-2006 11:11

Cracking day with loads of track time. A few lowsides on the very cold tarmac. Only the very fastest could keep any heat in their tyres. I had warmers and those wooly covers over my tyres and they still didn't get very hot. By the time I'd done 6 laps, the left of the tyre was freezing and the right only mildly warm, so the trick with warmers was to go for it from the first corner and then ease off and come in.

Shame Tim went down:( Hope you're not too bruised and the bike is just the easy-fix bits.

The No Limits van head gasket went so we had to get the nice men from AA Relay to take us home.

Photos available on Guido's site below, (in the next few days).

Back up to Cadwell for racing in two weeks, ouch, so far off the pace. Paul who does our hire bikes went out on his CB5 and blitzed me, kept with him for a bit then he just beggered off. ah well, as long as it's not as cold as yesterday, should be fun.

If I know Guido, he will have got plenty pics over the mountain. What may dissapoint you is just how small your wheelie was! Mine are never more than a few inches.

small wheelies....;) ;) ;) ;)

As I remember you're not allowed to wheelie there and I was told before that standing up to push the front down isn't allowed LOL

Just between you and me I think Couchie's wheelie's were a tad higher than a few inches :D

As posted on the DDforum;

Sunday was a funny old day!!! there's a hosepipe ban in the South and blizzards in the North - funny en it!!!

Cadwell 12/3/06 - The weather was arctic, the company was great, No Limits did a top job and I crashed!!!

Was great to catch up with a few old sages and to meet some new DD faces.

I don't know Cadwell very well (my 4th visit and 2 or those were DD races!!!) and it was useful practice, its funny how your memory kids you into thinking the wrong things about a track - there are many elevation changes that I'd just forgotten about, even Charlies, which I remembered as being flat (2D memory?) is quite up and down. The start/finish straight is quite a lot downhill from Barn and then up hill, before you get to Coppice - and Coppice is a lot steeper than I remember it!!

Things were going pretty well, the bike was running nicely, no real heroics, just steadily getting more used to the bike and working on a few things.

I did 3 sessions in the morning (there were 4) and 3 in the afternoon - I was a bit knakered by the afternoon as I'd driven up that morning (leaving at 4am!!!).

I went out on the final session (my last - no ****!!!) just to try to practice tackling the mountain - I'd been trying a few different lines and options there. Just before I went out one of the guys said he'd been texted by his missus who said it was snowing heavily in Lincoln, the wind seemed to be coming from that direction, so I was expecting some trciky conditions!!!

We'd been pretty lucky without any snow - it was too cold I reckon !!!

I did a few laps and was specifically working on my mountain approach, I was only doing steady laps in order to get me back to the mountain again - on the fifth or sixth lap, I was just exiting Chris curve (I think) and flicked left for the gooseneck and just lost the front - fcuk!!! - I slid for a while, the bike went down on the left and then flicked over, aslid some more and ended up claiming some Cadwell turf. I remember trying to get up before I'd stopped sliding and not being able to!!!

The medics checked me over, all was pretty much OK, my ego was bruised though - it had been a good day up until then.

Got back to the paddock and was please to get some help with the bike, thanks to all that helped - Grib, Nick (GTH), Chris, Tony (sorry if I forgot anyone - my mind was fcuked!!)

And also thanks to the messages I got from Domski, TP, Dibble, Jon, Ali, Nelly - much appreciated.

After removing the damaged panels and 2 tons of sod!!, she was quickly loaded into the wagon and I was off!!, I was battered and bruised and the bike wasn't looking to good either!! - but sod it - time for some beer!!!

I was crashing!!!!! (oopppsss) at Nelly's and went for a curry and plenty of beer!!!

So I spent today cleaning her up and farting - great Madras!!! - the damage seemed to be well distributed across the bike.

I had a few aches today though, my shoulder took most of the ground impact, (wimp!!!), my hand doesn't seem quite right, but my legs also ache from general trackday activity - but I'll survive.

I bent both clipons, smashed the screen, cracked the seat unit, scratched both side panels and split the nose cone, broke the front brake lever, lost a footpeg, bent the gear lever, bent the clutch lever, scratched the tank, marked the leathers, scraped my boots and damaged the lid.

But after a few hours of bending, swapping, cleaning, replacing, borrowing and stripping the turf off - she is lovely again!!!

I do now have some track fairings that I can use for practice - good job I decided not to fit the decent panels for the day!!!

I now need to get a race screen, glass up the rear seat unit and she's ready to go - I've used up all my race spares now, so I'm off to ebay!!! - anyone got a 996 clear race screen????

I'm back at Cadwell for the ACU day on the 24th and will need to kick the Goosenecks arse (so to speak!!! ) for scratching my bike!!!

I'm well up for the 26th - I'd best bring lots of spares!!!

Tim #5

Jon 14-Mar-2006 01:24

Blimey Tim!!! thats the best report I've seen from you ever. Glad to hear all is not too bad. I think I have a spare std screen you can have.

I should coco! Damn right!

Glad to hear you're ok Tim, I seem to recall having a similar experience tipping into Goose last year, lost the front but luckily I managed to keep it upright albeit I fetched up trundling down the grass! Thinks there's a pic somewhere.

You using DP footpegs? If so I may be able to help you out, just had some made.
