Sensible discussion no thread hijacks please We have NO PROBLEMS IN PIRELLI TYRES, THEY WORKED GREAT FOR US LAST YEAR. Andy never complained - and said the tyres did the job Pirelli said they would do - and did it very well - EVEN BETTER THAN WE THOUGHT IN THE HEAVY RAIN AT DONNINGTON. Our problem is being at this late stage, having to go through a vote now, as to whether we are now all tied to the same supplier for the whole season at his prices & use his stickers. WHY? - this is a first in the racing world at club level at least. Surely one company cannot control the sale of tyres. Does this not become a monopoly? It would be a first in club racing if it is, having questioned other racers in bemsee & NE and other tyre suppliers too. Sorry, contentious I know, but the question NEEDS asking. We are (or is it now 'were') sorted out with tyres & an ongoing sponsorship for 2006. What on earth do we tell the kind person who is sponsoring them? AK & Bones using CKs log-in as she is out and we dont know how to change it over |
I'm confused I thought we had to buy one make of Tyres from whoever we chose? Has this changed?:puzzled: |
Ok I'm not involved in DD but I understand that this is a one tyre series and that is the Pirelli Diablo. If that is the case then 1. Why only one supplier when by this time people will have probably got their tyre supply sorted? 2. If there is only one supplier was this put to tender or were we told by Pirelli? 3. If it is only limited to one supplier then are Pirelli underwriting the cost as part of their sponsorship? Think this does need some clarification not only for competitors but also for general members such that we can understand how it works. |
tyres still the same as on rules mate. voting email came round today to ask if you wanted to vote for one supplier to sell you tyres who would give promotional items as prizes and tickets for wsb meetings. In return you had to use him only and run his stickers. A vote needs to be sent to dd@ by sunday morning either yes or no to this late propostition. do read your email before voting. alan |
Alan it has nothing to do with being a monopoly, - perhaps you and others should stop looking for reds under the bed? We were given an opportunity that perhaps has some advantages and some disadvantages, - the riders have therefore been given an opportunity to vote on it. Is this not the open way to do it, or would you have preferred the option to have been turned down or accepted on your behalf? - I can see that one going down well, Not. I really do despair at times, - everything gets made to be so feckin complicated and turned into some political bun fight. Whatever the MT, RC do they get a lot of **** stirred up, - some of this tyre crap goes back a year, but here we go again…... I say again, - you the riders have been given the opportunity to vote, - why not just vote and be done with it? Or is it that democracy cannot be followed unless it suits the individuals? |
Maybe those of us that don't have a tyre deal can effectively sign up to a deal with Holbeach, the price quoted for supply and fit is better than a lot of places will offer. I am happy to buy from them at that price and would be happy to run their stickers, especially if they are going to be in support at all the UK rounds. But I see No need for everybody to have to sign up if it is possible for them to get a equall or better deal elsewhere. Those that sign up with Holbeach should be able to benifit from the full support that they offer. If someone using a different tyre supplier as a sponsor does not have there tyres marked then Holbeach would be under no obligation to change tyres for them or balance wheels etc. That would be up to Holbeach But as for not scoring points if your not with Holbeach I don't agree with that at this late stage. Surely something sensible can be sorted |

It seems that way so if I have to put the supliers name on my bike I will exspect them to put my copany logo on their van in return sorted no problem. |
It's too late now and for me it's not right anyway. We should be free to source our most excellent Pirelli tyres from anywhere. So long as they are Diablo's ( not corse) then it matters to no-one where we get them from and it should not matter either. Even if the tyres were offered by a certain supplier at £50 a pair it should still be a free choice! |
Quote:
surely in a democracy we have some freedom of speech? this is why i started this post afresh for a sensible discussion on the subject of the tyre seller, which as you must admit is quite a major part of the series? This is why I think this should be discussed as not all of us have other riders emails to talk away from here. Alan |

It's a great deal for those who wish to sign up for it. But I'm wondering why one persons gain should be my loss? There are already better deals being offered without obligation or threat of losing points, and are open to any entrant who want to take advantage - I'm confused as to what benefit the proposal offers the riders, the club or the series :puzzled: |
And I thought you were busy slapping about two hobo's ? :saint: [quote]I'm confused as to what benefit the proposal offers the riders, the club or the series/[quote] You and me both :puzzled: [Edited on 2-3-2006 by phoenix n max] |
so if some one didn't have a name wrote on their tyre even if it is the right sort of tyre, and they went out and won every race. not only would they not win the season they would not even have any points no i must have misunderstood? if some one did that..... or if a certain percentage did it, the whole race series would be turned into a farce!! |
You got it, so all of us that have our tires sorted get no points. |

Glyn you are a jolly nice chappie and a fellow ST rider but was that comment based on having read the email that was sent round to all the DD riders ? |
Glyn, if you'd like a copy of the email just ask! |
Maybe we've gone too far in trying to help the riders ?. Maybe we've got the same chance of pleasing people as a one legged man has of winning an arse kicking competition ?. I'm off to bed, spent half of today on DSC stuff and to be honest I sometimes wonder why we bother. |
The deal seems fine to me, I have already sourced 2 sets of tyres for the year - I can get these "authorised" at Cadwell and then any other tyres I need, (which I don't see that I will) I can get for a decent price through Holbeach. It seems to me that if you can source a couple of sets before Cadwell at your "preffered" price you should do so, get them marked up and all should be well. I think this is limited to 2 sets per bike - how many sets do teams need? Tim |
Paul, I did and although I have an opinion on it as an option, I will keep schtum about my opinion. All i will say is that as a process its reasonable...... 1. Email 2. Vote 3. Result It's not hard ...... it's just there is a jusitifiable fear of the "yes" vote due to potential implications and restrictions, which the RC must recognise, surely. Other than that, there didn't seem to be any major spelling or grammatical errors. |

nope i havn't seen said e-mail paul i was just curious can't even start to claim i have any understanding of the ins and outs of everything the r/c have to organise and i am sure the r/c have thought this through and done what is best for every one but if people have already got there tyres for the year is there any need to deduct their points? if this is accually the case, as i say i havn't seen the e-mail |
And ... there's the bit about 'those that dont make cadwell could try and get their wheels sent up with someone so they can be stamped' ?!?!?!?!?! Now there's a hare-brained scheme if ever I heard of one ! I'm not going to cadwell. I'm also not going to arse around and remove wheels to be sent up there. The vote seems to be for the whole nine yards of getting everything marked 'just so', not 'just' for a tyre-supply-monopoly. My inclination is to vote NO, and I think I have 2 votes (?), so thats a NO NO then. It sounds like burocracy gone mad. (addition) However, its probably just the wording, as there is a mega attempt to explain everything that has been going on for a whil all in one go, (instead of letting us know more bits earlier). SO, I will prob vote YES, with the focus on accepting that pirelli need a bit of 'comfort factor' associated with their agreement for us to run the series like this. That is assuming that, as usual, if it is not possible for someone to do exactly as expected, but they tell the rc in advance, then something can be worked out. [Edited on 2-3-2006 by phil_h] That is of course a YES, YES of course :saint: [Edited on 2-3-2006 by phil_h] |
I voted yes, the deal is basically unbeatable, even we can't get the tyres that cheap at trade prices, and that doesn't include fitting and balancing. Although I do think the deal is a bit iffy when it comes to having them stamp the tyres, I mean at £135 per pair fitted you'd be daft to turn it down unless you had a personal tyre sponsor, so why are they enforcing a no points rule? I joined the racing because it looked like fun from pit crewing for Glyn last year, but **** me there aint half a lot of politics involved with it. |
Quote:
'fraid it's not unbeatable kye! |
Quote:
Unbeatable if you don't have someone paying towards them and fitting them for free????? It does seem a good price from that point of view, but if you have help with tyres, then obviously it's of no use is it. The points issue/marking of tyres is the only downfall as I can see it. Otherwise, it's great. |
Nick according to the site in your signature there price is a fair bit more than been offered by Holbeach and under the race support section there is no mention of attending DD rounds. I assume when you say the price we are being offered is not unbeatable we would have to be talking 20% discount plus support or possibly geater than 20% discount without support. So I see the deal on offer as a good deal |
Skids, i was thinking kye was referencing a 'deal' i.e. one which could be negotiated rather than the normal over-the-counter price. I agree the Holbeech offer is excellent, but what's the point of the tyre marking and points loss? |
Can only assume its a way of ensuring that we all use the service and therefore make it a viable option for Holbeach at £XXX a set??? A bit like making Cadwell points scoring - if it wasn't, nobody would turn up - AND I'M NOT HAVING A GO, JUST USING THAT AS AN EXAMPLE But I'm only guessing. |
Erm, I yanked the wrong thread, I'm tired okay! I'll be outside the out patients dept at St Mary's A&E for my stoning at 9am sharp. Maybe. |
Great job from the RC for that deal, I still think the series are very very well organised. But unfortunately my vote will be a NO, I think that deal couldn't have been more unfair to those who have already found a tyre sponsor... What are they going to tell them? [Edité le 3-3-2006 par Tonio600] |
Can we go race yet?:eureka: |
........... but we need tyres don't we? |

Ye & it was just geting interesting.:flame::lol::lol::lol: |
Just to confirm, AK has no problem in the tyre deal being offered - for some its a better chance of prices than where they can source their tyres from geographically. Its the bit about having to have tyres stamped by the supplier (when he hasnt supplied them to us) bit he isnt happy with and if they arent stamped from there its the points disqualification statement he also isnt happy with. Maybe the RC can help out & find a middle way to enable those who wish to purchase them there can do so, without the severe penalty implication being added, as Skidlids siad last night? C, off for another job interview - and logging out, so AK cant hi-jack my log-in whilst I am out all day:o |
