Anyone know how to hack a PC?

I've got a Windows 2000 PC that I can't get into - passwords have been forgotten.

Is there an easy way to hack into this -
- is there a default admin password that can be used,
- can I go through setup to get in?
- is there a startup disk that I can use to get in
- is this a registry change thats required?

U2U responses may be best.

Thanks
Tim

There isnt an easy way, but IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING you can use the recovery console to edit quite a lot of files, so dont give up hope.
Unfortunately, I've never had to grope around down that far, sorry.

Think harder.

Laptop or desktop? BIOS password or Windows password? You may just be quicker re-installing, but if it's a BIOS p/word then you'll need to bypass that (possible but can be long-winded) before re-installing.

Did you set it up and forget the passwords? If not, try username 'Administrator' and leave the password field blank - you never know, some thoughtful soul may well have left a backdoor open... :ninja:

have you gotten in yet rattler ? ?

Rattler 07-Mar-2006 02:15

Thanks - its the login password on a laptop.

Age - the details you sent require a floppy to copy the encrypted password to - it doesn't have a floppy - and neither do I!!! ;)

Thanks anyway
Tim

Its a secondhand laptop that I have legitimately aquired, but there are no details of the login or password - the only login that is defaulted is admin!!!

I can wipe the disk and reload everything, but want to avoid that if possible - has someone got a copy of Windows XP and MS Office I could borrow????

Thanks
Tim

I've got Office 2000 you can borrow - If I could afford to post it

Don't have XP though.

If it's a second hand laptop then I'd actually recommend wiping it and re-installing the operating system. You never know what nasty Trojans may have been left on it by the previous owner.

If you want an office suite that's free and I find it just as good as MS Office (if you just want a regular word processor and decent presentation software, although MS Excel is the best) then try installing Open Office. http://www.openoffice.org

Rattler,

Duuno anything about W2K but here is something that might help - the prog allows you to create a boot CD or DVD providing you have a disc (or sometimes files on your PC) with an operating system on it:

Good luck !

Thanks guys - time for a play.

It looks like my best bet will be to create a boot CD that reads the encrypted password and use some kind of ripper software to interogate this.

Some of the "admin password" recovery tools rely on the fact that you have a login that works - you can then retrieve the admin from some registry hacks. - but I don't have any logins, so they won't work.

Its worth a play for a while, then I'll jsut wipe it and start again I reckon.

Thanks
Tim

No but i've recently written to Mr Burlisconi asking for a small gift of say £350,000 but haven't had a response so just thought of this instead. Obviously i'd prefer a completely legal and legit gift, but i wouldn't dream of telling the wife if i got a small gift like that.

recommend that one. Use it where I am at the moment and just referred to as Bart's.

GsxrAge 07-Mar-2006 20:13

I do not have a floppy disc mate But if you go to the page of that link I sent you it does have an option to burn it to a disk.

if you put disk into laptop then restart a long code will come up this is the encypted code.

After that follow on screen instructions

If you look at the pink box on left hand side there is a cd option http://www.loginrecovery.com/
