2003 SS sidestand bypass help Hi, have seen a few posts recommending the side stand bypass modification but cant seem to find any instructions or diagrams in the forum. Other than pay for the instructions on Ebay (£6.50) or putting up with disconnecting the side stand switch without it cutting out when placed in gear, I am at a loss. Can anyone help? PS I have seen the kits from dealers and shops but I am a: a yorkshireman b: an engineer 2 good reasons to DIY :burn: |
Welcome to the DSC board! I see it's your first post. I hope you stick around - another modern SS rider to keep me company. :D I had Neil at Cornerspeed fix the b*stard cut out in mine. Cost less than £20 I think. I understand the attraction of the DIY route, but perhaps an email direct to Neil and he could give you some pointers. (info@cornerspeed.co.uk). Otherwise, someone will be along in a moment that knows more than me on this. |
Many thanks. I have just bought her so haven't had the chance to find out what she behaves like yet but the side stand thing I know will bug me. I have standard cans on at the mo but have chance of some new carbon Duke cans for about £200 (no chip or filter) Would they be worth the investment? |

If they're in good condition, then yes. Are they Ducati Performance or other brand? Mine are SIL Moto and I'm pretty happy with them. Think they cost around £360 new, something like that, but that was 3 years ago. Make sure you get the right ones too. Older shape SS cans don't fit the new shape bikes. |
As you're an engineer it should be simple. The switch is either open circuit or closed circuit when the stand is ip or down so, you can do 1 of 2 things: 1. Jumper the switch out. 2. Or cut the circuit. There's no need to pay any money. What ever you do, use some black heat-shrink wrap to ensure that water ingress in prevented. Quote:

got it running with the stand down but my next step is to trace the neutral switch and patch it so that the bike cuts out when placed in gear. Have been searching for a wiring diagram. |

DUCATI PERFORMANCE Carbon Oval Exhausts New - To fit injected SuperSport range (Kit does not include ECU or air filter) http://images.kodakgallery.eu.com/ph...8933_0_ALB.jpg as advertised, I am tempted with them, the shop will also set up the bike for me with the cans fitted, at a cost but its still reasonable I think. The neutral switch is on the right rear side of the gearbox. However, why would you want it to cut out when placed in gear (presumably on the stand)? Why would you ever put it in gear whilst on the stand? |

Then go for it! You know you want to. What's £200? You've probably wasted more than that on beer (although buying beer is never wasted) Invest in some quality bike parts and you've made a good decision! |

Just in case ;) |
If you put it in gear whilst its on the stand you should stop riding. ;) |
but in effect it wouldnt be on the stand as i would standing still, feet down, side stand down (accidently) LoL |
