worth changing the exhaust? is it worth changing the exhaust on a 1999 748BP? if so, does it require a chip change at same time? thanks. |
Yes and yes! I've got 50mm Termis on my 748 and it sounds AWESOME! You will need to change the Eprom, this is straightforward providing you take your time when fitting the new one and make sure all the pins are located before you push it home. Also, make sure you earth yourself before touching it, so that you dissipate any static charge. Get a chip from JHP programmed by the man himself for only £25, don't bother with the DP one... Stinkwheel. |
Yes and Yes and Yes again, it`s all about the noise :D :D :D |
i see lots of different sizes mentioned, usually in mm...whats that all about? what is the standard size/length of the cans? Stinkwheel...is that £25 for the standard chip to be fiddled with or something else? ta |
The size in mm is the diametre of the pipework/can outlets.Standard size on 748's is 45mm.You can get 50mm cans, but you need 45-50mm link pipework to make 'em fit. [Edited on 29-3-2006 by KeefyB] |
YES change them Consider the "E" marked arrow cans if you are buying new. Removeable baffle certificate of conformity, policemen love them:lol: |
Yes, definitely change them. I changed mine for 45mm Termi's and am very happy - I was only after the noise, and it's the best mod I've done, apart from the open clutch! Do it, and don't rev it next to a police car!! |
better start looking then for some used Termis by the sounds of it. so what needs to happen with the chip...get it remapped or buy another one already altered for fueling etc? had a set of sil motor carbon high level cans on my 900ss and that was an awesome sound, so if anyone hears of any going for a good price drop me a u2u please. |
You can't re-map the original chip.So the chip you will get from JHP is a replacement. |
a new chip for £25??? sounds very cheap...though i am only basing that on my limited knowledge of such things in the car world. is it done on an exchange basis presumably? |
£25 gets you a brand new chip programmed to match your exact combination of engine/pipe size... They are not exchange so you get to keep your original... I bought mine nearly 3 years ago so the price of them may have risen slightly, but even so its still a bargain... Stinkwheel. |
absolute bargain! have had a look around the ducati coventry/jhp website and not seen them...will look harder. |

The chip is just that,...a microchip that fits into the bikes CPU to control the fuelling. On the SS,(and 749/999/Multi's),you change the complete CPU,hence the huge price differance.£30ish as opposed to around £600.:o |
aahhh...one chip that does the fueling and little else? i see. ta! |
