Henners 04-Apr-2006 23:23

The Final Post

Well off to pastures new for me. I've done all I can and to those today who were kind enough to write and berate me about resigning from this club all I can say is that if you thought change to this club could only come around though my personal involvement you are sadly mistaken - that is the reason I'm leaving because it appeared that it was my voice alone that was raised in protest.

I have put in the time and effort in trying to make things better so please don't accuse me of quitting. As Clint Eastwood once said: 'A wise man knows his limitations.'

There are many great things about this club. There are also some really not so good things that need changing. I hope you get the balance right.

Good Luck in all you do.

Henners

MARTIN H 05-Apr-2006 01:02

Good Luck Henners, I think the club is losing a geat asset in you going. See you around sometime maybe, I still intend to claim my brokers commision from you for the 996r sale. :D A pint should cover it! Good luck and best wishes in everything.

weeksy2 05-Apr-2006 09:09

Take care Henry... as you know mate... i like you :)

(not everyone here has that in their favour)

Good luck with your new ventures and i hope to still see you out and about this summer for a coffee.

Murray Mint 05-Apr-2006 09:10

Looks like I've missed something.

Henners you were one of the first DSC members I had the pleasure of meeting and I'm sad that your leaving, good luck in what ever you do and hope to see you again.

Murray and Bev:(

AK 05-Apr-2006 09:27

Henners mate you will be missed as also will Webby too as he isnt a member now either.
its a sad day when you feel as you do as C did earlier this year. i hope to see you still tho so do keep in touch

clockwork orange 05-Apr-2006 10:01

Oh dear. Sorry to hear about all this. Hope we will still have the pleasure of your company occasionally. :(:(

Ozz 05-Apr-2006 10:20

Henners you will be sorely missed but will see you down south. May try and get to MR on easter monday for the ride in if I can. If not will see you at Brands for certain!

clint 05-Apr-2006 10:50

I'm very sorry to hear that Henry & Chris have resigned from the club. I don't know what has gone on behind the scenes with DSC politics.

But they made me feel very welcome when I joined DSC some years ago, at the Surrey meets and rideouts.

Clint.

Dementor 05-Apr-2006 10:55

Well this is all a sad start to the Biking season:(

A little perspective is needed I think, more riding and less politics.

Some good M8s have now for one reason or another decided that the DSC is not for them, CK, Webby and now Henners, which is a great shame. Of course this does not mean that we won't see each other or share a rideout or Two. I can only hope that as time passes people will see that the DSC is just an enabler, and it is the people that count.

The DSC over the past 7 years has certainly facilitated a lot of like minded people to get together and develop friendships, and I hope that this will continue in the future.

I am afraid that all too often periods like this occur in all organisations and the DSC is no different. There will always be individuals who are prepared to put in the time and effort and the majority who just want to pay their subs and maybe turn up at the occasional event. Without BOTH of these the club can't exist.

I for one fully support the DSC (worts and all), and hope with all my heart that when the Sun shines and the depression of Winter is behind us, we can all just get out on our bikes and enjoy each others company

Yours, a Sad:( but optomistic Dementor:)

nelly 05-Apr-2006 10:57

I'll second that .......

best of luck Henners and remember, we don't just exist in cyberspace ;)

Hold on Neil I do!

webbyc 05-Apr-2006 11:16

Well what can be said except that the politicing got the better of me and the massive egos got in the way. What we were trying to do was for the good of the club as it opened everything up and asked for more involvement from the members. The process, however, developed into a slanging match with insults being made in public by both sides as they acted like schoolkids - I don't need to name the individuals they know who they are. I was watching my daughter bikering with a friend of hers and thought to myself that is what the DSC has dscended to and then I saw a response to an email and that was it, the final straw that broke the camel's back. Well, like Henry, I've had enough so have resigned from the MT and DSC to pursue pastures new. I can hear the cries of "Flaky Webby" from some - "he gave up when the going got tough" - well I haven't but there comes a time when enough is enough and all I want to do is ride my bike, meet my mates and talk rubbish. I think that I've actually done quite a lot for this club and recruited quite a few members.

This club used to be a great club and I personally have made some very good friends through it who I intend keeping in contact with. I have also offered to carry on as RO for Surrey as I've paid my membership until next January, but apparantly I have to be classed as a member for that:puzzled:

Anyway I'll keep in contact and in any case you can often find me skulking around Box Hill on a sunday morning.

Ozz 05-Apr-2006 11:21

Oh blimey you aswell Chris? All the best, you know where I am and as with Henners no doubt will see you at Brands.

Chris,

Resigning from the MT doesn't revoke your membership, it makes sense that RO's are club members surely ? I hope you do continue as RO as you've brought a lot of value to the club there.

What I can't quite understand is why you guys decided to leave when all the things you were striving to get done are in process ?. We've been through a rough patch to be sure but are coming out the other side and I had hoped were moving forward cohesively.

It is unfortunate that Pronto was delayed, we've even taken steps to help avoid that in future. The rules/constitution committee is now being formed, MT positions openly advertised, RC race rep applications sought, bank details being dealt with. It's all happening, we are moving into a different age so why walk away now ? I've personally asked you to have a rethink and should you change your mind will do all I can to support you.

No hidden agenda, no "attitude" just want to get on with things and put the past behind us. Can't you just take that at face value and pitch in to help ?

If you choose not to do that then all the best for whatever you choose to do, it is time consuming and does require committment but once things are back on the straight and narrow it will be better for all concerned.

Have I missed something here ??. Have you asked for your DSC membership to be cancelled or just resigned from the MT ?

I thought it was the former but maybe I'm wrong ?

webbyc 05-Apr-2006 14:40

Membership cancelled, now I see why the roundell has disappeared - DOH!!!!!

weeksy2 05-Apr-2006 14:52

i thought it was just because they don't like you Chris ;)

:)

Chris, Henners ... tis indeed a shame ..... :(

psychlist 05-Apr-2006 18:12

Very sorry to see CK, Henners and Webby move on. I fully understand your reasoning and accept that it's your own decisions to vote with your feet. I know I can still count on you all as friends as much as you can depend on me to back you up whenever you need and know that you'll understand when I say that the DSC will be a smaller place without you in more ways than most people realise.
I hope to see the ideas that you brought to the table before Christmas passed through into the heart of the DSC as promised as a result of YOUR efforts and look forward to the future DSC being more open and accountable to the membership. We've got some good people at the top that work very hard for the DSC for scant reward, the same is not said often enough about the many people just like our 3 departee's who put their heart and soul into moving the DSC onwards and upwards.
Live long and prosper folks ;)

Then all you have to do is get in touch with Lizzie to get it reinstated and get back on with the treasurers job innit !!!. You could at least give it until the end of the year ?

All this Mills and Boon stuff is fine but the reality is that the club won't run itself, lets get a grip and move on positively.

Everything is in place to offer the transparency and openness that everbody wants to see so lets get on with it shall we.

Sorry to have to say this but I think the DSC is on a slippery slope and its only going one way !

With all this fighting I think it's too late for the DSC as we know it I realy hope I'm wrong about this.

It's Time for a big clear out and get rid of the DEAD wood !

it wont be if all the stirrers pi$$ off
it's simple if you dont like the flippin club, why come here

i think it's time the m/t became a dictatership
one bloke in charge who says whats what

rockhopper 05-Apr-2006 21:11

The DSC is bigger than the few personalities on here who appear to be intent on runing it for us all.
It'll take more than a few ego's to end the DSC.

indeed, good point, just one problem, its not the egos that are leaving .... or for that matter tempering their personalities to allow progression ..... shame that ..... its all achievable .... eventually ....

Jeez don't you just love these positive thinkers !!!! Get real out there, if you want to try and drag the club down with negative postings there ain't much we can do about that. The truth is we will continue to make progress and the club will go forward. If it isn't for you then you've every right to do something else, if you want to make a difference put your name forward to get involved instead of just whingeing away on the message board.

Not directed at anyone specificaly lets just get on with what needs doing and pull together.

clubs and members

Having followed the progression of my daughters swimming career from non swimmer to National competitor and been an active committee member at all 3 swimming Clubs including competition/membership/coach and being on the commitee of the Local archery club, this club is no different to any other, you meet the exactly same types where ever you go.

theres the Dictator whom thinks he owns the club usually one of the longest serving.

then theres the fidler who thinks the clubs funds are solely for there own use,(the 2nd club I helped at the treasurer left with £47,000)

then theres the organiser who thinks his ideas are the best even if they antagonize a large % of the paying members.

theres the mason section who collect together in secret sub commitees usually undermining other peoples efforts and withholding information from members.

and last but not least the members themselves in my case swimmers parents and my god you will never ever win, for every one you please there will be 3 you wont and in the end you chase your tail this was the one outstanding reason I gave up Coaching the bitterness of some parents(members) was unbelievable.
that is why I would never go on another commitee and why Ive learnt to let everthing go over my head and just ride out and meet new friends.

Webby/Henners where ever you go you meet these types of people and leaving wont blot them from existance,so dont take things personnely its human nature once people have a little power they go a little off line.

Henners,Chris and Ck,sorry to see you go.Especially you Henners,i wanted to show you where Yorkshire was on a map,as you seemed to struggle with anything above Watford.:D Seriously,it really is a shame people leaving,'cos it is the people that make this club.I have made alot of good friends via the DSC.Just saddens me to see it lose what it originally had:Passion, fun and laughs.Where have they all gone then?
