Grand Prix Legends (or should that be bell ends?) shocker - again Just wanted to share my disgust at the level of service these people provide. My wife ordered 2 items, 2 weeks ago for my birthday (24th)...she chased three times, being promised twice that the goods would arrive in time for my birthday - they didnt and she was quite upset as a result. 1 item came late - but was the wrong thing anyway ! And listen to this..!! My wife phoned up to return it and get the correct item sent...and was told that she would have to pay ANOTHER £7.99 postage and packaging..!! When she stated that this was farcical as it was their mistake, and we werent happy anyway..we were then told that it would be reduced to £4.99..!!! They have now refused to send the correct item until they have recieved the other item back - and we are still waiting on the 2nd item. A joke - I think im right in saying that other people on here have had similar experiences. I would never use them again after some previous nightmares (and extortionate postage charges), but obviously my wife was unaware of there reputation. Beware...:mad: [Edited on 4-5-2006 by Nattyboy] |
Sorry to hear your tale of woe. As for the birthday, I take it that the 24th you refer to was the date, not your age? Cos if you're only 24 you must've had a hard old life :frog: |
I'd definitely get a snotty letter drafted and sent to them. As for your legal stance I'd say you were well within your rights to send them the article back along with an invoice for the cost of return postage. Include in your letter 'fit for purpose' - it's worked for me in the past. |

Cheers, can I have a straw? :frog: |
I ordered two "Airwaves" shirts in Feb that arrived promptly. I sent the one size back that didn't fit and waited for my refund. And waited. And waited. 8 weeks later I got my £29.99 back after chasing them weekly and being told "we're moving warehouse and there's a backlog". Not good enough. I'll pay full price elsewhere in future. |
I had ordered some clothing a while back and asked what the sizes were as they were s, m. l. xl,xxl they told me what sizes were for what measurement and before someone says bet it was too small you fat git, The clothes were to big and like you to return it you have to pay postage and packaging and then again for the new items. It cost a fortune and would of been cheaper to drive all the way from Bristol to buy it.:barfy: |
Once ordered a Corse sweatshirt and got an BMW motorsport jacket from them, I wont use them again, service is crap. |
I ordered a T shirt a couple of years ago it too 3 months to come, but they debited my account on receipt of the order  which is always a nice touch. Sounds like they haven't got any better. |
If she payed by credit card, let the card company deal with it . |

3 months!! That's odd as when I bought a watch they were touting the fact that they would not debit the cash until the item was despatched. They were true to their word and within 2 days of the cash going the watch turned up. Sounds like there's plenty of horror stories here - guess I've been lucky ;) |
Ive used them once, quality was rubbish, customer service no better. |
im with nattyboy on this 1. ive had nothing but trouble with them and it goes back over 6 years. i first used them for my minichamps models and they used the old " we wont debit your account" line back then, they took the money and 3 months later i was still waiting for model and refund. i vowed never to use tham again. recently for my birthday too the wife ordered a xl corse fleece for me as a suprise from their sale mag you get with mcn and the like, when it arrived it was a small so she ended up keeping it for herself as it was too much hassle to send it back. twinfan the only problem with the airwaves gear is that their the only ones that sell it and ive noticed that the clinton enterprises( the guys at the bsb meetings etc ) website goes directly to th gpl site now. |
Well..NONE of the goods have arrived..and they are no saying that is new stock that wont be here for at least a month (absolute b***x as they have been in there catalogue for months). Order cancelled...muppets. Nat |
Do a search on distance selling regulations. If I remember right if they cock up it is their bag and they are liable for all postage costs. If they fail to fulfil the order correctly in a reasonable time you are entitled to cancel your order. Copy in their local Trading Standards in any correspondence too. Jim |
Thought I ought to send a balancing view on this one as some of the points here are harsh and extreme  I ordered a pair of AlpineStars summer boots (half price in their sale) and a new style 2006 Ducati Corse polo shirt in early March. Boots arrived within two days but no shirt, however a letter arrived the following day saying the shirts were on back order and would be despatched when in. I didn't bother chasing because they only charged me for the boots. Anyway ... shirt arrived last Saturday :o I'd completely forgotten about it so it was a nice suprise. Not just that though - polite letter of apology and a very nice gratis Ducati baseball hat were also in the bag. The hat being a peace offering for the shirt taking so long. So I'm a happy bunny :D and at the moment think their service is good and I would certainly use them again. BTW I've used them 4 or 5 times and have never had a problem so I've never had to phone up and complain etc. Two sides to every story ... :burn::burn: |
I would also like to add that in my experiance GPL have always been very good and orders have arrived quickly. Also I don't believe that they have ever taken my money before an order has been despatched. I would certainly use them again |
I've had similar disappointing experiences with GPL as Natty and some good. One was with a birthday present - i'm not going to go into detail (as you know this thread will get pulled anyway). I don't think you can truely give a balanced approach of somewhere until you've experienced both the good and the bad side of a company. If you get something wrong as a company - make it right and you can get a customer for life. Expect a customer to PAY for the mess you've made will only force a customer away. I think it's where you make a telephone order with <enter company name here> and you order <enter item here>. You ask if it will be delivered by <enter date here> and they say yes it will. They have then set your expectation level and if they don't fullfil that then you will be disappointed. This is where GPL have upset people in my opinion. Especially when you could have placed the order elsewhere. |
I had ordered a model bike for a Crissie prezzie back in November as it was in the catalogue and they would guarantee it would be in time for Christmas. I got a letter saying it would be in stock in Jan. So I had to arrange another prezzie. From then on I kept getting told a new date. The dates come and went, it is still in their catalogue (RC30) In the end I cancelled my order. After six months of ordering, it is still in the catalogue but the woman on the phone couldn't actually give me a date. If I were to run a business that way, I wouldn't be in it for long! It's like the billboard-man, "The end is nigh" We now it is coming, but we just can't tell you when..... |
