fuel fuel fuel Sorry, i have to vent. So i havent filled up in a while as ive been on holiday for 3 weeks and i didnt ride for a while before i went away...so i hadnt needed to get fuel. I filled up this morning, and Optimax was more than a pound a litre at my local shell garage. My bike is my primary transport - i dont have a car, and at this rate i doubt id ever be able to run one with fuel being so expensive Remember when fuel hit 80p a litre - everyone went insane and blockaded everything. why has no one done anything recently? ok, im done. When I had my very first bike, 2 stroke was 2shillings and 6pence a gallon........... |

And do you remember when you drove up to the pump and there was an attendant standing there to put the petrol in for you, take your money into the office and return with your change? Oh, I nearly forgot...you could get 5 star petrol too. And I've still got some of the free drinks glasses you used to get off them. Aaah, those were the days. My goodness, I sound just like me dad! |

Do you remember when you bought a gallon of petrol they had a portable 2 stroke oil dispenser that looked like a fire extinguisher, and would put a shot or more of oil directly into your petrol tank depending on the mixture required? |
Used to be able to ride from Lincoln to Portsmouth on my trusty CB175 using under a pound for my fuel, & I used to wring it`s neck:devil:, well it was 1973:( Chris.:burn: |
I try to run my bike on Optimax and have developed this sad obsession of checking out fuel prices every time I pass a Shell garage in the area. I just say to myself my bike needs it and I should stop moaning about how much money they are all making of the back off my pleasure in riding. |
Digressing slightly - do people really notice a difference with optimax then..ive only ever run normal unleaded..? Nat |
Does it really make any difference to your lives at all how much it costs ? It's not a choice thing is it ? it's not a 'well i won't use the car this month' type scenario unless you live really close to work. Petrol prices are simply irrelevent... you HAVE to pay whatever it is. Little or no point even worrying about it really. |
fuel is still roughly the same as the minimum hourly rate for workers as it was 20 years or more ago. |

Sadly it does, I first used it on my bmw 1100rt, it seemed to smooth out low rev vibrations and made it smoother to ride and more willing to accelerate, it also increased the range of the tank by 10 miles or so, this paid for half of the cost the other half being worth it for the performance gain (the words performance and 1100rt don't normally go hand in hand). So since then I always try to use it. Stuck it in the wife's Yaris but sadly it did not go like a rocket, so did it only once. [Edited on 9-5-2006 by jeff st4s] [Edited on 9-5-2006 by jeff st4s] |
Optimax (and the other "Premium" type fuels) greatly reduced the carb icing my SuperLight used to suffer from. Keeping it in boxes in my garage stops the problem completely....:sniff::sniff: |
