I got a 999
 

Browsing market place the other day and I saw a 999 wanting a quick sale at a very good price, so I bought it :)
2003 only done 2500mls. Described as immaculate and after 2 hours of cleaning it is :) Totally standard and I can't wait to ride it, but it's raining !!!!

this humble pie is actually quite nice ;)

took it out earlier for an hour, tbh it's bloody brilliant, I'm not one for falling for a bike as soon as I ride it but it is better than I thought it would be. The engine is awesome, pulls like a train from 4k and flies at the top end. Handling is spot on I can't really fault it. Brakes are binding a bit but if the pistons are as dirty as the rest of the bike it's no surprise.
All in all a brilliant bike and I'm well happy :)

Put some floating discs on it and say goodbye to any brake binding.

If anyone ever says they need more power then they're talking out of their arse.

Still surprised it's this good, tbh I didn't rev it much above 8k on my favourite roads. It was more than quick enough for me to have fun doing that, but give it 11k and it flies ! :)

If it's like other Dukes it will be overgeared - go up a couple of teeth on the back and you'll get even more go. The loss in top end is probably very academic.

I followed the thread the other day, think you got a bargain there! Give the brakes a good clean up and youll be laughing. You could probably ride it all year and still make a small profit if you decided to let it go. Enjoy.

TWPD it's def overgeared, I was in 4th most of the time between 80 and 120. Maybe drop one off the front I think :)

Don't go down on the front Tony - it gives the chain a hard time. You have better and more adjustment using the rear sprocket.

My 800's which have pifflingly small engine outputs in comparison are horribly overgeared to - on any twist road they are mostly in 4th. 6k is nearly 110mph. I need some sprockets to play with for the road bike.

Where did you get the bike from and what did you pay if you don't mind me asking. ;)

It was bought from here, guy in market place emigrating. Tis 2 yrs old and done 2500 miles. Pretty much as new and cost £5400, seemed a good deal.

Yep. That seems very good to me. A lot of bike for less money than a year old 600-4. I know what I'd choose.

Anyway that's a bargain and I think you'll be fine dropping to 14t front (assuming its running 15t like 996's etc) Stinky Pete runs a 14t front standard on the 748SPS

yep 14 on the front was what I did and have to say the top end was the same if not better, it's still geared for 175 mph, not that I've do that,
but 150 in 3rd is know 135.
nice looking bike, they get better looking each time I look at them.
and like you said it's got enough power,ect
