Hello All

Hi, i am new to this board having just taken the plung and sold my GSXR600 and bought a Ducati 749.

What can i say, its soo different to my old GSXR600. I didnt have a chance to test ride a 749 before purchasing the bike, i did however manage to ride a 999 before and apart from the obvious differences in power - the little 749 turns in much faster i think....

The only downside was the ECU stopped working correctly after 20 miles :( Not such a good start to ducati ownership so it's back in the shop.

But what can i say - im more than happy i have changed to a ducati from the jap 4's.

I can see why there is so many happy people on this forum :)

Regards

Jason

Welcome ... pint of Stella please

Redruth 15-May-2006 17:55

I hardly think this is an appropriate tone with which to greet a newbie, you two. At least try to give the impression of being the elite group that Jason think he's joined, if only till he meets you in the flesh, at which point obviously any such impression will evaporate :devil:

Hello Jason. I'd like a nice cup of tea, please :devil:

couchcommando 15-May-2006 17:58

Welcome also a newbie here, join the rest of us modern folk who have bought the new shape Ducati, therefore saving them from bankruptcy :), the old guard would rather have seem them go under than buy new, so much for loyalty eh ?

salamanzer 15-May-2006 18:55

I dont know, the new shape has sort of grown on me. When i first looked at it i wasnt too sure. But now i see it as another thing of ducati beauty :D

But shape changes seem to be the in thing at the moment - the yamaha R1, suzuki's and even the ninja's are looking quite odd - i think it gonna take a while for the stubby exhausts to grow on me.

Do you as a "club" do meets and are there any local duke owners in the devon/somerset areas ??

Yep,and you are in luck, there is a new organiser for the south west region.Keep an eye on the rideout boards for details.
Fine choice of machine by the way,..mines a Stella.:)

ecc3 15-May-2006 23:46

welcome! I went from gixxer to duc 749 as well... and am very happy, now 18 months later... make mine a Corona... cold! :D

salamanzer 15-May-2006 23:46

Ok great. Yeah im just down the road from Taunton really - i will keep an eye out for the south west rides - sounds like it could be a good laugh.

I did want the 749R - but the missus went nuts when i tried to spend 11,000 on it - and i got a good deal on the 749 so what the hell. Hopefully i should get it back with a working ecu :D (once they work out what is wrong with it - it keeps deleting the error codes).

Happy days :)

Jason

swannymere 15-May-2006 23:55

:puzzled: Don't worry,it's called character!I'll have a Gin & Tonic with Lime please:D

[Edited on 15-5-2006 by swannymere]

salamanzer 15-May-2006 23:56

Actually before I forget - where can i get a decent carbon hugger from - iwant to keep the shock and exhaust in good nick, dont want anything too expensive just needs to look nice!

Also did people stick to the run in rules? - most of my other inline 4's I have always had the attitude - if its gonna be thrashed, you may as well start as you mean to go on.

swannymere 15-May-2006 23:59

:D eBay is your friend, lots of bargains if you're patient, check prices first from a dealer as some muppets regularly pay more second-hand than new:eureka:

mark749s 16-May-2006 01:04

I ran mine in by the book. did not venture over 5000 for the first 600 and then built it ip to the 11000 over the next 900 miles mind you I have got the brecon beacons to play with

Salamanzer, Hi

You just missed a meet last Sunday just ouside Taunton. It went like this ; A ride, a pub lunch, a ride to West Bay and then a coffee and a ride back. 6 turned out and so 7 would be cool.

There is a meet this Saturday at the Bristol riders dealer. We get around 20 bikes to that and if the weathers good we will do a ride out accross the Mendips to Cheddar. The meet is from 1000 until 1200-1230ish, They do a good breakfast and it is a nice bunch of people who like a good chat about their Ducatis.

Hope to see you there.:biaggi:

bike mad 16-May-2006 12:02

ran my baby in the way I was taught by my dad and it works, my bikes are the fastest, there is so much more to running a bike in than just going by the revs, you must not labour the engine at all till you have 1000 miles on it and then slowly brake it in with more throttle till 1500 at which point you should be full throttle and 10'000 revs,
it's a slow and very laborious process, try to imagine a glass of wine on the tank, you must accelerate so slow that the glass doesn't fall off,
don't under rev it as that will strain the engine,
you can imagine my mate who came with me when I bought my bike which was 200 miles away, 0 to 60 in 10mins,
but at least he could over take me, that was the last time that happened.
:flame::burn::burn:

salamanzer 16-May-2006 14:08

eek:

I was told to keep it under 8K for the first 600 miles but i was allowed to go over it now and again. Oh dear :(

Oh well - that slight loss in BHP im sure can be made up by a set of loud cans :frog:

Oh and as long as the bike is fixed - i will try and make my way up on saturday. I have a mate in bristol - hes got a ninja - would he be welcome to come along ?

Welcome to the DSC, now don't forget to fill out your application to become a full member of the club.
I too sold my 1000 il4 and bought a Duke. It will open-up another avenue in bike riding, I kid you not!

Peroni for me, ta;)

salamanzer 16-May-2006 19:00

Just got news from the shop - look like a new ECU - thank goodness its a new bike :o

Hopefully they should have it done by the weekend :D so i will try my best to get to bristol on saturday.

Redruth 16-May-2006 19:31

Jason, you should be feeling quite welcome by now, but I notice you STILL haven't got a member symbol by your name. Why the delay ??:devil:

There's no such thing as a free lunch/pint of stella/case of champagne
