Bar risers The 749S gives my neck some serious grief, saying that I have done 10,000 miles in 11 months. Do the bar risers significantly improve the riding position or not? If so which ones have you got? any other tips or tricks are welcome Mark |

I put some varon bars on my 999s, to get the most lift I replaced the brake and clutch resevoires. I like it more in town now and it's not that bad on the moterway. is it worth it probably not theres not that much in it and where you gain in town you lose out of it, and it's a lot of work to reroute all the cables ect and in my case the resevoires but if you don't mind all the work it's ok and does help. If you are down to devon any time you can see mine, |
Myself and a couple of others have the cycle cat riser kit fitted, the quality is great and once set up they are eventually much more comfortable. The downside is that they are a pig to fit and get right and they were an inch too long for me and others so they were cut and are now much better. |
:saint: Someone on here has swapped the left and right bars and turned them upside down to achieve the same affect for zero cost, quite effective i believe.I'll try and find the post.:saint: |
yes i was looking at that as well Had a measure yesterday of the angles ect and it looks as though it would work ok. The bars would nearly be parallel with the ground I may well give it a go!! Mark |
When I tried turning the bars upside down and swapping sides I thought that they looked as though they were pointing upwards and did not feel right to me, never left them on to try mind. |
Try this link it shows Ace's bike with before and after 'swap' photos http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/xm...626#pid247844d [Edited on 23-5-2006 by swannymere] |
Mark Change the bars! Or keep the bad neck! Or get a S4RS! But I dont know about one of those Buell things, I had a look before I went on Saturday and I have to say the looks are not for me but then again I am not buying so dont listen to me. If its what floats your boat when you ride one and the styling is for you then who am I to say other wise. I would still try the S4RS to compare if you go down that road. Otherwise looking at modifying your bars is sensible. I could see the look of thought on your face Saturday. Chopping in bikes is expensive and the bars mod will be cheaper.:biaggi::biaggi::biaggi::biaggi::biaggi::b iaggi: |
Nice one Rich I am considering all options. I moved the footrest position from the furthest back to the furthest forward, that seemed to help slightly. I would like to see some of the cyclecat bar risers in real life on a 749/999 I am very tempted to do the bar swop trial - I can always put it back. The trouble with getting rid of the bike is I LOVE IT and have looked after it well as well as this option costing me big dollar Mark |
I did try the bars up side down but thorth the same iang, pointing up, sounds like a set of risers mite help, if you want I could send you some jpegs of the varons I fitted, but I cant put them on hear so I'll need a email ads . hears a good one for your neck, sounds like we have the same prodblum. is to lift you helmit slitely say 5mm, just a small lift makes it beter, you have to lift your head more to see when you have a helmit as it sticks out like a peck just abouth your eyes. I'm not saying it's a perfect solytion but as i've found out it's little bits as opposed one thing on it's own and the risers do help. :flame::burn::burn: |
been for another measure the thing I missed was that the bars are mounted on a compound angle Its looks as though they will point up but I have not calculated how much Mark |
Whats the bar / mirror clearance like at full lock when they've been swapped to upsidedown |
don't know ian I have not done it Mark |
:-) had hoped someone else who'd tried it already had a feel. Oh well mite get to try it out for mysel soon as a 999 is due to be mine on Saturday |
Iain mac if you come to see me this week you can see my cycle cat risers and see what you think, New bike on saturday then, Enjoy |
Cheers IanG. I had been seriously thinking bout a swap on the bars. my previous 1000ss did give me wrist ache but the seating pos didnt help either. The 999 test ride seemed more roomy - rosetinted wishful thinking :-? but need to get a longer ride in to see how it fits. I was also thinking 'bout my old 916 (5 years) and that wasnt comfortable at all... must have bin a masochist.... |
Yes, I know what you mean by sore wrists/back/neck etc, it did not bother me a few years ago but now I am getting on a bit !! I needed to sit up a bit more without getting rid of the bike so decided on the cycle cats and as mentioned previously the quality is good, but the fitting instructions must have been made by stevie wonder and they were a big of a pig to fit and get set up right and for me they needed to be modified slightly. They are more comfortable although the wind seem to make my neck more sore I think on a long ride and on full lock there is not much room for your hands underneath the fairing/mirrors but when riding normally the bike does feel good. |
