Attention - for those doing trackday at CC! Have just had call from AK - Bones & Rattlers bike failed the noise tests, which are MORE stringent this year than before. Tested now to 8000 rpm (when max running is approx 9000), both bikes were 106db. Luckily AK sorted both bikes out to attain the correct reading for sound, and they are out on track. So - take those nasty DB killers/airbox filters/end baffles if you have them, if you are going for a trackday. They are 'wising up' so they told AK when he asked, and will be making spot checks whilst bikes are on track all day........ |
To add, AK DID point out the following: The noise limit for the day is 105 db(A), which is measured at ½ metre from the exhaust outlet at ¾ maximum revs. It is the rider’s responsibility to ensure that their machine is within this limit. All machines are sound tested prior to going out on the circuit. In the event of a machine failing the sound check, then the rider will be entitled to a 75% refund. If you are unsure if your bike will get through the noise test (i.e. if it is fitted with an after market exhaust system), then you can always come over to get the bike noise tested prior to booking a place. but they said "it has '10,000' on the revcounter...... so?????" |
Effing idiots. It's not worth the hassle. I simply wouldn't race there or do a trackday. 10,000rpm? :puzzled: |
trouble is Nigel, that some racers in the DD series do want to race there, as they dont want to chuck away the possibility of scoring points. Others find that its the nearest track to them for an odd annual trackday, and prices aint too bad for this time of the year. Its not one of the nicest tracks tho, granted:( |
The noise measurements on race day last year were a lot less stringent than the tests on the track day. But I'd prefer it if you lot would keep it down, as I'm not racing at CC I plan on attending and nursing a hangover :D |

I'm more partisan. I've refused to race at Lydden before due to me considering it dangerous - despite championship points being at stake. If TPTB want to make it difficult to race or use the facilities then I simply go along with it...fugg 'em! |
Race day is as per the ACU regs so providing your bike conforms there should be no proble. Castle Combe run trackdays for road riders and if a road legal bike turns up there is no reason why it shouldn't pass the noise test. You can't balme the trackday organisers if racers want to come along with their race bikes and use it for practice. maybe a blanket ban on racers using it for practice would sort the problem, after all if they want to learn the track they could do it on a road bike Yes I want to race there, its about 100 miles closer to me than the likes of Cadwell, Oulton and Snetterton so is cheaper for me to do and also easier for my friends to come along. as for points I have already dropped 1 race so can only realy afford to drop one more. I don't think anybody is having there arm twisted to go along and pay £125 on top of petrol costs etc. and those that choose to go for a trackday have been warned in advance about the strict noise checks and these have been in place on trackdays there since 1998 that I know of. Noise is a problem at the circuit with many local residents trying to get the circuit closed which is why there have been posts on this board pointing to a petition to be signed to keep the circuit open. |
Our bike was 100db at Assen without db killers @ 6000rpm Will be interesting to see what happens at CC - although we're taking db killers for the trackday. I don't think it's the circuit that is as fault - try the new neighbours and the council!!!! |
We have this nonsense at Croft. Croft has been a race circuit on & off since 1945 but, a modern housing estate (15 yrs old or so) has sprung up within a mile. The inhabitants of said housing estate are among the loudest (sic) objectors to Croft and it's race events. FFS! If noise is an issue then wtf buy a house next to a race circuit? :puzzled: There's increasing pressure being applied by this very vocal minority countrywide - should we let them away with spoiling the enjoyment of motorsport for so many others? Croft, Lydden, Oulton, Brands Hatch, Castle Combe are just the tip of the iceberg. CC owners should grow a spine and try taking the locals and the coucil on instead of placating them. Appeasement never works. If they're not prepared to do this then I'm not prepared to support them. |
Don't forget Donington Nige, very few noisy trackdays there anymore. The airport noise is fine tho..... |
Good point Tony - that is probably the most ludicrous of all cases! Whatever happened to common-sense and proportion, eh? |

Snot was 96 last year at CC at 5000, and again this year checked before Assen at 96 again at 5000 with no DB killers. Big difference now to 106 at 8000 tho:( but, as has been said in other posts above, this is for a trackday and NOT racing at CC It was just a warning to others going in the next couple of weeks, that CC officials have 'tightened up' :) |
Yep - many thanks to AK for sorting the baffle situation - I must get myself a cordless drill!!! The test was at 7-8K, despite my demands for a lower rev test, it was at 106.2db at 7K. The tester was as helpful as he cold be, but seemed tied by the regulations. He advised that I should ride the bike around to warm up the end can as this should reduce the noise!! Despite doing this, I was still at 106.1 !!! So fitted a baffle - courtesy of AK, and registered 102.2 - all OK. As for the day, it was fun dodging between the showers and hale!!! The track does dry very quickly (thankfully), so managed a couple of dry sessions, along with some wet (and cold) weather testing!!! Bones was riding well, and seemed to really gain a lot of confidence there - he's looking forward to the race I reckon. I don't like the format of 6 groups of a dozen riders, with 10 mins each. It seems that just as you're getting into your stride - its over. Numbers attending were low enough to combine our group with another, so we had some additional time, handy setup time. Roll on June 10th. Tim |
Set-up time???? :o Setting up what? :D |
