Dyno Time well, I'm taking the bike to Dynobike at Malton tomorrow to have her PC III fitted and get some dyno time... I've put around 200 miles onto her since picking her up last weekend so this should be interesting to say the least ! I'll try to post up dyno charts tomorrow night / thursday... |
Hi Neil, what time are you going,i might pop up? |
I'm booked in for noon, but will get there for around 11.30 I guess. Good to see you if you can make it. cheers Neil |
Hey Neil, can't wait to here the results. Just scored a set of upswept termgnonis. Bike is away having ST4 headers butcher to fit. Talked to the guy at Uni Filter and he promised me that UP4245's won't get sucked down the hole. You should have a chat to your dyno guy about them. I'm now investigating this MyECU thing. Maps in 12 zones, so sounds like a better alt to getting a P8. P7's only map in 4 zones somebody was saying, so that has to go. And for a small price you can get a little box thing with buttons that sits on the top of the triple clamps that you can play with while riding. (240km coming into hairy courner. Mmm I'll just adjust the.......) Griff |
Hi Neil How did the dyno run go? |
yes,how did it go?Sorry i couldn't make it,was doing the "Family" thing!!You got the dyno charts to post? |
Dyno went really well, fitted up a power commander to the primary injection side (centre 2 in the V) , so the two injectors for high rev range were not connected into the circuit. Started with 129 rear wheel bhp + 67ft/lbs torque, with quite a few dips, and ended up with 134bhp +71ft/lbs torque, the curve for power and torque is really nice. To say I was chuffed is an understatement & the bike is now a dream to ride. Must say that I was scared witless when he did the 80% and 100% throttle position runs, with a rev limiter of 12,300rpm you can maybe understand why I was more than a little nervous ! I now need to figure out how to post up the dyno chart ! |
Jasper, no probs mate - you know what it's like anyway, not the most interesting thing on the planet to watch. Mind if you had come along you'd have been wetting yourself, laughing at my bl**dy nerves... |
Neil,your right,those 80/100 throttle openings are real nerve shredders!!Awesome power/torque figures!!Makes my SP5 seem sick!! |
Hi Neil, So were the top figures achived using all 4 injectors?Bet that's a hoot to ride, doe's it tick over? and at what revs? Steve R |
WOW! Nice. |
yeah she ticks over - at 2800rpm, anything less and she just bogs and stops dead, and that's when she's nice and warm...the PC fitup only affects the centre injectors so the secondary high rpm ones still fire when the ECU tells em, so it's working on all 4 injectors in the high rev range just as designed. Had a guy on an 06 blade follow me back to Helmsley from Malton, needless to say I didn't hang around at all and when I stopped in the market place he pulled in for some crack and was shocked that she went so well - biggest laugh was that I told him it was bog stock apart from aftermarket pipes, he looked sick as a parrot lol now how the hell do I post up this PDF - the site is saying that it's too big - aaargh... |
hey mate - SP5 sick, youv'e got to be kidding right...horses for courses and all of that - mines a bitsa special, while yours is original special... I'd have yours tomorrow given half a chance !!! |
So, remind us of the spcification again... |
Ok, just the motor ? 916SP donor motor (Case conversion to fit 851 chassis by Baines) 955 high comp pistons 955 barrels Heads converted to 37mm inlet and 31mm exhaust (from 33/30) Heads ported, gasflowed and combustion chamber re-shaped Pistons, Rods and Crank balanced Lightweight Flywheel STM Slipper Clutch Gearbox is standard 916SP |
What gearing are you running? |
think it's 15/39 from memory |
1 Attachment(s) dyno chart - the red lines are the last run with all set up nicely... |
Nice overall graphs, but a few sizable dips. What airbox are you running? |
Better twice than not at all, eh, Jasp? |
Quite happy with mine, than you very much. |
That's IMPRESSIVE. Is that at the wheel or adjusted for bhp at the crank? Either way it's in 999S territory, and very nice indeed. I must admit, the thought of doing something similar is VERY tempting, although I'm not sure that I'd want to go so extreme unless I was using it mostly on track. 2800 rpm tick over seems a bit of a handful for the road...tight roundabouts must be a triumph of clutch slipping. Don't know much about 916SP motors, but I'm guessing they come as standard with trick rods to rev to 12,300? |
A 2800 RPM tick-over doesn't make sense, though. My 996RS which was far more radical engine wise, ticked over quite happily at 1600 RPM. If you have to turn it up that high simply to get it to idle, something isn't quite right. |
Hi,the cams that Neil's use'd are old school race cams,i belive 431 inlet +G exhaust, they are long duration and give away bottom end torque for big top end gain. The cams on a 996RS are short duration high acceleration cams and will behave differantly, hence the differance in tickover. Steve |
Neil is in the IOM this week so won't be answering questions! |
Just got back from the IOM - what a hoot, bike was great and she got plenty of looks. I missed the DSC meet up on the Sunday though, for some strange reason I thought it was the Tuesday... Am running a sealed airbox, or as sealed as it can be, and the dips are not noticeable on the road at all. In fact the motor is surprisingly tractable low down in the rev range, the roundabout/traffic light/junction issue aint so bad and doesnt need as much clutch slip as I thought when riding. BHP figures are rear wheel - went past a guy on a 999R on the mountain, had a bit crack at the creg, he reckoned he was giving it the berries and couldnt stay with her. Not so surprising really as the diet shes been on has liberated 45 - 50kg from her all in weight. Dont forget theres no lights etc and everything else is either mag or carbon - so power figures dont tell the whole story. Steve thanks for highlighting the difference with the older cams. Oh yes the rods are Ok to that - 1st thing I checked out. cheers Neil |
What kind of clutch parts does the bike fit ??? Phil911 |
Phil, an STM slipper clutch is fitted along with sintered plates, not seeing any slippage so I guess that the combination is working Ok for now. I'll be checking the pack height carefully as I don't know what it's life will be ! |
Your feedback should be very interesting ... Phil911 |
Post up some pics of this beast will ya? DC |
pics 1 Attachment(s) the beast pictured next to a nice bike... |
Nice looking bike. I wouldnt mind one. DC. |
g,day neil, sorry i couldn't catch up at the TT, we got a bit carried away at the pub and had to leave the next day. your bike looks interesting, i'm currently hoarding parts for a similar overhaul to mine. it must give a real kick in the pants with the 431's in it, i'm going for sps cams in mine. |
No probs mate, I'm sure the pub was a great experience...was it the one with the naked ladies ??? Yup she kicks alright, between 8500 and 9000 - the engine note changes and it turn's into a totally different bike. She's tractable and real easy to ride below that, I'm not saying that she turns into a pig above this, but am making the point that although there's a great top end the bottom end is just as good. SPS cams, I was thinking of building a 2nd motor as a spare with SPS cams, I'd be interested to see some results - I take it that it's a 955 your building ? cheers Neil |
