New DSC Website - Problems

I think we need some seperate threads to collate problems that peeps are having.

The Webteam can easily subscribe to these and users can either post in the threads or use the Private Message (PM) to let us know of anything fast.

I'll create a separate thread for general comments here:

http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/sh...d.php?p=307209

Issues we know of so far...

Occassional homepage / login problems - being monitored.
Auto-refresh of Today's Posts - Split decision so far; Poll maybe?
Avatars / Sig Blocks - some guidelines issued, need collating.
New Gallery - same - some guidelines issued, need collating.

Website General Performance:
Eamonn is monitoring the performance of the site generally and is able to make adjustments to prevent some errors from happening.
Late last night there was an outage that might well be beyond the control of the webteam (I waited until after 1am with bleary eyes for some sort of resolution but got Nada! - We owe Flanks a drink for being on the ball this morning).

Can this thread please be kept for specific issues that you feel need to be address, can anything else please be put in the General Comments thread.

Frank, its great:D

but, the 2 issues we found yesterday are stil cropping up:

Home Page - AK has no prob when going onto site at all, from home or work PC.
If I leave myself logged in on home pc (or my brothers as I did last night) when I click on the bookmark (which is the home page) it still says I am denied access etc, tho can then click onto forum & rove about as usual.

Same issue with the membership bit - on both PC's for me - but not AK.
The only worry I'd have with that, is others who have joined the board, but then decide to become members might find the same as me in that access is denied to that section.

One PC is running 2000 - and I run xp here. AK has XP & 98 at work (whenever he can 'blag a go' that is :D)

Just teething snags I'm sure - otherwise its fine:) (apart from being able to have my own choice of avatar that is:( but at least AK has his back:)

Jools 31-May-2006 11:28

I'm sure these are just teething problems and probably bandwidth issues with the interwebbynet or the server rather than the site 'per se', but I've replied to a number of U2U's and other messages only to be met with a 'server cannot be found message'.

Gizmo 31-May-2006 11:31

Just a small one - on the white theme the words "private messages" in the breadcrumb login box uses a white font on a white background so are invisible.

swannymere 31-May-2006 11:40

It does'nt 'remember me' when i log in despite having tried every combination i know, also how do we post 'icons' in the actual post.Sorry if i'm being stoopid.

Iconic944ss 31-May-2006 11:52

Thanks guys,

There must still be some membership / access issues - I've never seen these myself on my own account or on a non-paid up account I've made for testing purposes.

AK - I'll have a look at your account and see if anythings amiss or its a generic thing.

PM link at top - yes, when using the plain white style its almost invisible (but there is a red underline on my screen) however, your right - we need a workaround that will work in all styles.

Smilies - you need to type the code in when using using the basic editor that is the default

Got to teh FAQ - type smilies and a page on using them will appear OR here is a link to the page showing the keystrokes:

http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/mi...do=showsmilies

twpd 31-May-2006 12:15

As reported previously, whenever I log in at the homepage using whatever pc at home or at work I get this:

"twpd, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:"

I get the usual server cannot be found, server too busy etc as others are probably experiencing too.

phil_h 31-May-2006 12:20

I've been trying to delete a load of my old pms, cos its much easier to see them now ... but there seem to be loads of duplicated messages, so its a very slow job ... AND I'm sure I've deleted some of them 3 times now

lizzie 31-May-2006 12:46

Can someone explain how to change the time...I seem to have lost two hours somewhere!

Iconic944ss 31-May-2006 12:53

Erm....Lizzie, step out of the Tardis please :)

Sorry - system time appears to be ok.

Phil_h, PM - please have a look at this thread:

to save time you can download all your messages as xml or csv files you can then open them on your own computer if needed. go to messages, slect all and download as the file type you want,go back to messages select all and delete them, , then empty deleted items, works in both inbox and outbox. add any one you pm often to your buddy list, you can then easily contact them again in the future.

Lizie, go to your "user settings", then "edit options" from the side menu, then scroll down to "date and time" check time zone is correct, it should be GMT, western, London if you are in the UK, then check DST correction is set to automatically detect DST

lizzie 31-May-2006 13:02

Doh... could have sworn I'd looked in there... can't have scrolled down far enough :(

Thanks Gizmo.

webteam 31-May-2006 13:02

Thanks Giz, there is also a TEXT output option that works nicely as well, its a bit for friendly than the CSV option that looks awful without playing about in Excel a bit.

Swanny
If you tick the "Remember Me" box when logging in and later close your browser without having clicked on "Log Out", you will be remembered. If you Log Out first, you need to log back in. Works for me, anyway.

To get icons into your message, click on "Go Advanced", a button that becomes available in your Reply screen.

Hopefully Frank/Eamonn/Gizmo will get it sorted out:)

phil_h 31-May-2006 17:09

hit the 'todays posts' button(http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/se...hp?do=getdaily is in the adderss bar)got a page with :<br /><b>Fatal error</b>: Allowed memory size of 12582912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3 bytes) in <b>Unknown</b> on line <b>0</b><br />

rockhopper 31-May-2006 22:10

I get occasional "The server is too busy, please try again later" messages when i try and post or send a U2U.

CK 31-May-2006 22:18

avatar now fixed:)

but sig now vanished - and the option to have it :(

Mark 31-May-2006 22:27

All non DSC members have had their Sig. Blocks removed in the short term, pending a review by the WT & MT.

Redsps 31-May-2006 22:34

Quote "All non DSC members have had their Sig. Blocks removed in the short term, pending a review by the WT & MT "

Does this mean that all dsc ex-members have limited useage of all the board facilities now.

Mark 31-May-2006 22:46

All non members of the club, being members of the actual club have had their Sig Blocks removed. So an ex member or never being a member has no bearing.

In basic, there has been a problem with on mass fourm rule breaking, a reminder for all;

4. Signature Rules

4.1 Size Limits: All signatures are limited to a combination of text and smilies – they should not exceed the following size limits:
Just Text: 8 lines small size or 4 lines size 2 and up to 90 chars per line
( Empty lines are counted as well.)

4.2 Content restrictions You may have a link to your own website or services, but there must be no promotional language like "Best Hosting" or "Cheapest Styles". Paypal and affiliate links are NOT permitted.

4.3 Dynamic scripts linked in signatures that attempt to create cookies in another person's browser are not allowed for security reasons and will be removed.

Until the problem is resolved, this is the situation which is regrettable.

There are a few problems that have arisen around sig blocks, a short-term decision has been be made to remove them until resolutions can be found.

This does not alter the functionality of the message board for its users.

Its good that users are continuing to flag the issues to us quickly.

Many Thanks

For anyone experiencing this problem, go to your User Settings (top menu bar) and then click on 'Edit Options' (left menu). Scroll to the bottom and choose either Standard or Advanced message editor - the basic editor (which is what everyone starts with) doesn't show smilies.

This message indicates your connection to the server is running out of memory. First option is to try logging out and then log in again - this will clear your connection and give you a fresh chunk of memory to use. This problem is not related to your own PC - it is a problem with the server running out of memory.

I'm investigating increasing the memory allocation on the server - hopefully this will resolve both the above error message issue and allow us to allow more simultaneous users thus preventing the 'Server is too busy' messages.
It's a bit 'hit & miss' right now since we're all learning, but the webteam are looking into the various options.

Eamonn.

This was a setup error on my part (sorry peeps!) I had forgotten to give non-DSC members access to the home page etc. - quite a major omission...

It should be sorted now, if not let us know!

Eamonn

(PS Thanks Gizmo for the pointer on that one!)

Gizmo 01-Jun-2006 08:45

One quick comment to those with links to images and url's in their sig blocks, as the images don't now show, the image link still does so if anyone clicks it they get taken to your image not the page you want them to see. its probably worth everyone checking their sigs for images and links and making the necessary changes. ( when sigs are up and going again)

Oh and all users have the option to not display sigs/avatars if you don't want to see them, its in your user settings.

Miserable sods! :(

Like I said before - after previous experiences as a long-term committee member of another national bike club, these days I avoid joining as a paid up member of bike clubs cos it means I am able to avoid the politics of them.

Dave G 01-Jun-2006 08:49

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 12582912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3840 bytes) in Unknown on line 0

I just got this trying to go back a page or two, might make sense to someone but not me.

twpd 01-Jun-2006 08:52

Ditto. Same for me just now when clicking on "today's posts" from within this thread.

:o I hope this is a short term move, and can be resolved ASAP.

It would appear to be sorted. Thanks :)

twpd 01-Jun-2006 08:59

I am sorry to labour the point..Can you clarify please because you comment is not clear to me at least? Are you saying non-members as in non-paid up members have had their sigs removed and it's because of mass rule breaking re. sigs?

Error !

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 12582912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 16 bytes) in /var/www/html/dsc/forum/search.php on line 2563

weeksy2 02-Jun-2006 08:52

Well i couldn't get on for 8 hours yesterday... would that be a problem ?

desmobob 02-Jun-2006 09:09

Getting a lot of these:

vBulletin Message
The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.

851neil 02-Jun-2006 09:18

still getting fatal error messages when I access from the bookmark, Google search and access from there works fine, then re-bookmark try access again and presto another occasional fatal error. When I get logged in I get the same intermittent issue on checking U2U's, still a fatal error but slightly different message.

749er 02-Jun-2006 10:28

where have the Avatars gone. I am missing Britney!!!

ath748 02-Jun-2006 16:42

Why doesn't it show me the last time I was actually active on the board? I don't need to know the last time I logged in, I like to know what time I was last here, so i can read all the posts from that time on??

Used to show on the old board at the top left.

Ade.

Once you are logged in, under the menu item 'Quick Links' there is an option called 'New threads' - this shows all new postings since your last visit.

Remember that the todays posts only shows those made within the last 24 hours (sorry if that seems obvious!)
