Engine differences 749/999 Right, before someone says it I know 250cc ! I am considering the 57mm exhaust upgrade kit but it is made for the 999/999S. I have been informed that apart from the ecu the rest of the kit will fit the 749 fine, as long as it has the new swinging arm. Does anyone know if the actual physical size of the engines differ or is it just the bore/stroke, just in case the 999 motor was taller or shorter than the 749 then the exhaust manifolds would not line up. |
Did'nt Butch say that the 749R had shorter barrels? |
The 57mm system will physically fit no problem, external differnces on the motors are so negligable that it will make no difference. But unless you have the R variant of the 749 then the best performance gains are from the 54mm. it gives just about the same top end but the peak power is lower, so easier to get to and use. Good luck and fit a PC3 or you'll have plenty of fuelling issues. |
whats in the conversion kit ? cheers G |
dosnt posidon run the 57mm system on his 749s ? ? ? /ian |
1 Attachment(s) This kit contains all the 57mm pipework to convert the assymetric system to a full system with the new flattened pipework and it also includes the rear part of the Termignoni box, carbon guard, race filters and a 999/999S ecu, all for £950, the best price that I have so far is £820 ( Motorapido ) but my local dealer will beat that when I go in. Obviously the ecu will only fit the 999/999S but as they are well over £600 for the ecu alone someone will be interested in a non coded/unused race ecu for a quarter to a third of that price especially if they have a Leo Vinci or Racefit etc exhaust. |
isnt the box different tho ? ? /ian |

Yeap that's why the kit appears to include a new end piece for the existing can with the correct sized inlet spigots |
Yes, all the job entails is to drill out the existing rivets that hold the exit pipes on the back of the can then fit the new end piece and rivet it back in place with the new band that is included in the kit. The 749R exhaust kit is nearly £3,000, doing it this way ( for myself ) will work out at about £1600 and I will have a new carbon guard, a pair of new race filters, a cat free link pipe and a new 999/999S ecu all to sell which will be worth at least £300, so much much cheaper and still a full 57mm system apart from the titanium end can which does not bother me in the slightest, there is no performance gain or visual difference with the titanium can and as for the weight difference would anyone really know any difference, plus the stainless version does not crack ! |
£820?? i'll have one |
Tempted you have I Chillo !!! |
yes! who do i need to speak to? |
Craig at Motorapido, you bough one yet ?? |
got yer mail mate, thanks. i will get one but just in the process of rebuilding my motor so will be a couple of weeks off yet |
If I get one before you then I will post you some pics. |
cheers! are you fitting a PC3 at the same time? |
Having a new exhaust is so last year............ |
engine blueprint for this year then! |
Already got a PC3, will just need it mapped for the 57mm system, anyone got a map that i can try ? |
gerrit on a dyno! |
