749 Crash Bobbins
 

I'm in the market for some crash bobbins, I have never bought any before and am slightly dubious even if I should invest with the scre stories of damaging frames etc.
Do any of you use crash bobbins (for track days) and if so which ones?

Speak to nelly at corner speed, he has a cracking set that come with two sets of bungs, one that you drill through your trackday fairing to mount and the other that sits behind the fairing when you have your road kit on, the one behind the fairing will not protect your side panels but it will save damage to your frame etc...

i have a set of r&g on my 749r, easy to fit & do a job.main reason i have them is the tank hits the deck on 749r & the tanks cost is over what i paid for the bungs.

I used to have R&G as well however as they are bracketed directly to the frame and i was warned they could damage it, i swapped to these from Nelly http://secure.speedymoto.com/Merchan...gory_Co de=FS

I'm interested to see what people think...Redmist on here has a set of the ones that come through the fairing. He drilled holes in his track fairings but not in his standard red fairings.
I had a look at his 749 the other day and thought that this was a pretty good idea. Without the mushrooms the bike looks pretty but you have the piece of mind.
The fitment under the fairing is so big without the plastic mushroom it looked like it will protect the frame and engine if you had a road crash...when he put on his track fairings he screwed on the extension mushroom, therefore protecting the track fairing as well as the frame and engine.:)

I would be concerned if it was a solid protrusion without the mushroom on that it would be inclined to dig in and flip the bike apposed to only sliding if the mushroom were fitted

The fitment was as rounded as the plastic mushrooms are...I didn't see a problem with it digging in the ground , anyway surely the fairing would give some protection towards that.

I agree the fairing would give some protection, i was unaware that the fitment was rounded in shape, i assumed like most it would be a solid protusion that the mushroom would screw or be bolted into

Same here and for the same reason, along with protecting the clutch if it goes down on the right side.

The R & G kit is very well engineered and robust, including a longer bolt that goes through the engine mount replacing the shorter Duc item. Either side of the frame and onto the engine bolt you clamp billet machined blocks that attach to 3 frame spars - spreading the load of an impact, and very effective as I found out at Brands last October! These will sit under a standard fairing without bother but I drilled holes through my race fairing to attach the R&G crash bungs with large diameter bolts. The left had bolt bent on impact with the tarmac (absorbing some of the blow) and the bung wore down as the bike went round Clearways on its side! Result - no damage to frame, tank, or anything else apart from the fairing :) EXCEPT when the bike went off the track, the frame and tank got some gravel rash from the stones flying up :(. Overall, very please with the performance - well worth the £175 cost. Not sure I'd recommed going on track without the bungs (and a race fairing) but fine on the road and would offer protection.
