WeeJohnyB 28-Jun-2006 23:06

'twas a cracking day. We missed out on the BBQ last night, (sorry Jon & Claire) cause we left late and didn't get to Oulton till quite late, had something to eat and a beer and went to bed. Woke this morning to see the BBC TV news with 'scorchio' right across the country and a big black rain cloud over the North West, opened the curtains and true enough, it was raining, begger!!!

First couple of sessions were wet, but a dry line soon appeared and by mid morning it was dry except a couple of corners, by about midday it was dry and stayed that way all day. We got a full 7 sessions in with very few fallers all day, although a couple of DSC boys will need to get the T Cut out.

I was late on the circuit as I spent the best part of 2 hours trying to help two customers get through the noise meter, one of them had travelled all the way from the IOM and was riding a beautiful classic, but boy was it loud, got him out in the end though.

I spent most of the rest of the day instructing in all groups on tyres I should have changed before the previous trackday at Cadwell - the rear is now well out of shape. Tried to help out a few of the DD boys with how to race Oulton and did a few sessions with DSC peeps. Had a session myself with one of our instructors which helped me out tremendously.

All in all a cracking day, met loads of DSC peeps, mixed it with the DD boys and had a great craic.

Sorry if I didn't say hello to everyone, but it was a busy day for us. I'm off to Croft next on Saturday July 8th, then it's of to Mondello for a long weekend - yehaa!!!

Good luck to everyone racing there next week.

WeeJohnyB

NBs996 28-Jun-2006 23:09

It's a great track, I think everyone enjoyed the hell out of it!
Overnight rain meant wet track to start, but byu session 3 it was dry. It's damn slippy when wet, especially when the Caterhams dump their sumps the day before!

First couple of laps out, I was totally lost. Didn't have a clue where the corners were cos so many of them are blind. Statrted to get the hang of it by the aftynoon tho and it was good fun... there's plenty of overtaking spots and loads of room to get by.

Looking forward to the race, but only going out to play if it's dry!!!

domski 28-Jun-2006 23:10

Pic sorted :)

ericthered40 28-Jun-2006 23:18

Brilliant day, brilliant people, brilliant track.

Awful journey home, £60 ticket for doing 80mph in the 3rd lane with the trailer, I didn't know about that law. But then the law must be known by everybody, even the froggies...

Tonio I didn't even realise you were there.... sorry!

I just want to say a huge thanks to everyone who came up to try the North's (possibly the UK's best circuit :D ) and to everyone who came up the night before for the BBQ.

It was great to see everyone again, thanks to Ian for doing the food after I began socialising, Nick for the Gnome!! LOL!! and everyone else for the various bottles of wine and beer to make the evening flow....

The TD itself was fantastic, I was gutted with the weather in the morning really thought it might not of cleared up for a while, but when it did the fun began and everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves with tales of small dices up and down the field.

As far as I am aware only one small incident the whole day which didn't stop them getting out later anyway.

And finally one HUGE big thanks to No Limits and the boys (and girls) as ever for a fantastically run day without them and Mark's assistance yesterday would never of happened, thanks

Jools 29-Jun-2006 09:55

This TD was on my wish list for this year. In the end I had to pass on it because it would have cost me a mighty amount of money.

Not only would I have needed to pay for the day and somewhere to stay but my T8 needs a few hundred quids worth of TD fairings in case the unthinkable happened to the unobtainable and since riding the T8 I've also found that my leathers are too short in the body and get really tight on my neck and shoulders (never noticed it sitting more upright on an ST) unless I leave them unzipped from the trews - obviously a no no for a TD

So with TD, accomodation, TD fairings and even cheap new leathers I'd have been looking at over a grand to get out there...oh well...there's always next year.

Even more gutted now I've seen the pics, looks like a brilliant day was had by all.

MJS 29-Jun-2006 10:18

Just want to add my thanks to everyone for this one.. too many to mention everyone, but thanks anyway!

I had a cracking day out, left home at 5:30am to ride up in the morning, did the trackday on probably the best circuit in the country, and rode home again. As with Ian, I have aches all over the place but once the circuit dried out properly it was awesome, well worth the money.

Cheers
Martin

CK 29-Jun-2006 10:26

Huge thanks to Lily & Jon for hosting a lovely gathering on Tues night - great food & also great company.
Thanks also for offering your lounge floor for us to camp on, rather than us having to unload the bike from the van so we (and Bones) could kip indoors, much much appreciated.
Big round of applause goes to Ian (DSR) for his fantastic chilli burgers best I've had EVER! - so - where is the recipe then?????

Had a great day at the track in my usual guise of 'camp slob' whilst AK was flitting about fettling bits & bobs.
Good to eventually meet Gizmo & Lindsay - as well as catching up once again with novern chums BDG, Martin (who should have brought other tyres apart from slicks eh for the morning? ) and other happy 'regular' faces- including my little donut chum again:cool:

Urban & Paul James overtook us on the way home, but despite looking out for Roof, we didnt see you burd.

Dickie was obviously 'having a focussing time' on the M1, as we shot past waving out of the van window - you didnt even raise an eyebrow mate:o - must have been on auto pilot

Cheers to one & all for the great norvern spirit - cant wait to see some of you again when we come up to race next week!

Sorry to hear about your right foot being heavy Tonio - no trailers in the 'fast lane' nit!

Grib 29-Jun-2006 10:28

That place is a bit scary in the wet
Great day, still no idea where the track goes and a bit apprehensive about racing there, but I'll give it a shot anyway :) Nice to see a load of the DD lot out there chasing round, Fil2 was flying, going to be a good battle at the top :)

Rattler 29-Jun-2006 10:35

Great day, great company, great track.

Many thanks to Freak and Lil for the hospitality on Tues eve and to No Limits for another great trackday.

Special thanks to Fil2 who was kind enough to lend me his 2007 championship winning 620 ;) for the day, as mine is not a happy bunny at the mo (hope Nelly can sort it out for me, just 8 days before the race!!!!)

The white beauty is very fast and well set up. I didn't thrash it honest mister!!!! ;) - just ask Couch!!!

Got home at 11pm, then had Harry's night feeds to keep me focussed - tired now!!
Tim

LOL I briefly saw Fil2's bike as he passed me and disappeared ;) ;)

Not a bad day for me I'm getting used to the bike, I think I managed one session where I wasn't lapped by at least one 620 so that's an improvement :)

ali 29-Jun-2006 11:32

Wicked day, I love it when the weather/your confidence improves through the day.:D

Many thanks to JPM/Lily for the bbq. Lovely house and a great get together of the north and south. Look forward to digging deeper into Ian's video iPod files next time.....

Still not sure about the circuit. I enjoyed it, but struggled to get a good clean lap in. It's not a circuit where you can afford to ride the kerbs, and a couple of trips to the grass had me changing my metaphorical keks! Definitely seem to me to be somewhere that takes a few days to get the hang of, and not somewhere you'd want to be racing in the wet.... oil on glass springs to mind. :o

Cheers,

Ali

I thought Donington was bad, but it's not a patch on that place! I came in after the sighting laps thinking my front tyre was flat cos the front kept trying to tuck and move around. Either that or the place is a death trap. 31 psi.....oh poo :(

i did the same; literally thought somethng was up with my bike until ali came in and said "is it just me or is it fcuking slippery out there"

will be good fun if its wet for those that havent been there before.

skittles are us.

dickieducati 29-Jun-2006 11:55

yes a big thanks to lily and jpm for their hospitality (loved the house), and for getting so many dsc'ers together.

great evening before the trackday, great track. just a shame its 4 hours from me. well worth the visit though.

domski 29-Jun-2006 12:01

You lot must be riding too fast.

I remember Oulton being quite grippy in the wet :S

In the olden days ;)

I think just staying upright and waiting for the over enthusiastic to fall off will be order of the day if it rains!

just a quicky to say nice to meet some of you - awesome track - awesome set of people and bikes - interesting to see all the dd racers and some really well prepared bikes - hope the chap is ok who offed in front of me - seemed ok - have it on (a foggy) camera and will post it when processed
the bike went really well - my second time in inters , first time at oulton and first time in the wet (on supercorsa pros as well) so a few to chalk up there

Just got back from Winsford after a great ride home. Big thanks to Claire and Jon for putting me up in their super new home, for a terrific BBQ (love your burgers, Ian) on Tuesday night and a highly amusing evening last night with Gizmo, Linzi and MartinH. An excellent gathering of DSC peeps. Really nice to see the Big Daft Geordie and his shorter daft mate Assi.

It's a fantastic track, once it dries out. Much better than Cadwell, I think. Faster, more flowing but technically demanding. Definitely worth going the extra distance from here, especially now that I've adopted Claire and Jon as my cousins in the North. I had a really good day out, only marred by my clutch starting to slip big time in the 6th session and pretty much give up by the last session. Big thanks for Gizmo for taking it all apart, showing me how to clean it all and putting it all back together. I'm about to order a new set of clutch plates and I'll be putting them in myself (expect a couple of phone calls, Mike!) Apart from the clutch trouble and a bit too much rain, that was a perfect DSC event for me. Deserving of a regular slot in June/July?

Can't wait for the DD racing. I'll be up there cheering everyone on. You're going to have a fantastic day :)

Jools 29-Jun-2006 16:05

Where were the pics taken?

There's some pretty impressive and comitted braking action going on - some front wheels tucked into the rad :D

BDG 29-Jun-2006 16:41

Great day and well done to JPM for suggesting and organising an unofficial DSC track day. I'm sure DSC numbers were swelled by the forthcoming DD round, but thats also why JPM picked that day.

Thanks to WJB and No Limits for the DSC discount, i do think No Limits do a damn fine job as track days go.

Sorry i missed the BBQ but i'd just been away from home for most of the preceeding week so stayed in avec les enfants.

Quite right, Shaun. It's the DSC members (including the ones who haven't renewed their membership) that make this club for me, and Jon organising the day with No Limits was a top job well done.

Never thought I'd say this but I'm beginning to see the attractions of Up North

Please don't post it up Nick, I get enough stick of DSC peeps as it is.
btw if you lot think it was slippery on the track, you might want to go and try the grass some time.
