Best ever motorcycling moment? BDGs thread about music got me thinking. My best ever motorcycling moment was discovering the twisty bit of road along side Llyn Brennig in North Wales. It was wet and drizzly and I was on the 851. I just held it at a steady 70, and flowed throught the sweeping bends between the forest trees untill I got to the end of the lake......then I turned round and did it again.......................then I turned round and did it again ........then I..... Do you have a best ever motorcycling moment? |
Riding up the coast of the Gambia from Senegal, on a beat up Yamaha 175 trailbike, with Jacqui on the pillion, sun setting over the ocean on our left, gently weaving in and out with the surf to ensure the firmest sand, for over 60kms ... perfection :) |
Best ever motorcycling moment for me happened 7 weeks ago ;) ![]() |
the ring trip a few weeks ago..... |
One of my best rides was from Dubai to Oman on a Harley Springer soft tail! |
Best Motorcycling moment for me was From Nairn via Inverness, Fort Augustus & Glencoe, to Crianlarich trying to keep up with two Harris mounted Glaswegians on my Moto Martin GSX1100. |
Getting from Gerrards Cross to Troon in Scotland in one day on a Honda 125S in 1973. |
Back in 2002,scored 95% at Mallory on the suzuki performance riding course. |
so many but probably getting of the ferry at Douglas on to the hallowed land of road racing heroes |
Passing my test. Closely followed by picking up my first bike. Wow, what a feeling that was...... |
2nd race meeting, Mallory Pk, knowing i was weaker than a TLR into Gerrards but also knowing i could beat him over the line with my drive out of the elbow.... Managed to beat him by 4/100ths. The position didn't matter, we were closer to the back than the front... but it was my first 'race' my first time battling and swapping poistion lap after lap after lap. :) |
Chasing a hard charging Mille R around Rockingham National and coming round the outside of him on that long left hander before the hairpin. After the session the guy came over and said "Wow, those ST4S's can shift can't they". I said "I don't know, but they're probably quite a lot quicker than my ST2". The look was priceless! |
Riding a Ducati for the first time on the way to the Bol. A friend let me ride his 748SP - one of the first in the country. It was loud, achingly beautiful, fast as f**k, full-on in the face and a real man's bike....I had to have one. I've never looked back since. |
1972 riding allnight two up with my mate on my Suzuki 500 Titan to Bathurst races.Seeing Ducati 750 GT's racing for the first time, fell in love and bought one six months later.A great weekend. |
Don't know if this is the best moment, but it'll be one I'll remember forever. Leaving Newcastle, Australia to ride over the mountains to Bathurst, where my sister lived, to watch the weekend's races (thought I'd post this straight after Italian888's). It was August and winter was supposed to be over (southern hemisphere you see) and I was on my Yamaha Virago 250 (I know, the horror! the horror!). Anyway, I had to stop at Lithgow in the mountains to put on every additional piece of clothing in my backpack because of the cold. Rode into Bathurst, surely suffering hypothermia, with ice formed all down the front of my jacket, helmet, gloves, trousers etc. Into the first bar where, without having to be asked, the barman simply handed me a Bundy (dark rum) and coke. |
I have a few 1. After rebuilding a very sorry Lambretta from the ground up, starting it and hearing it run for the first time. that was pretty special. 2. Passing my test 3. Riding my Ducati for the first time. what a RUSH. 4. Leading a scooter ride of about 60 bikes through Arches National Park in Utah earlier this year. Sorry theres not more motorbike related ones, but im still in my first year of riding. Cy |
For me it was owning and riding my first Ducati. I had promised myself one after I had heard them racing and rumbling past the rented room I lived in after I was divorced. I had no money, but formed a plan to own one; so when I did, that first ride back from OYB in Aylesbury on my 996 was priceless. Tim |

It was the first time I had my knee down. I was touring in France with my mates, starting to feel really good with my small 600 Monster (which I still own) and trying to keep up with them and their bigger Desmodue on a lovely A-road. A great moment, for everything around it. I just didn't care having scrubbed down my leather trousers, feeling the road so close while being so fast (about 70-75 mph at least   ) was so good. I was simply making one with my bike. |
Hello For me . . flying for 12 hours to Indonesia (Jakarta) then another 12 hour train journey, night stop over then a 7 hour bus trip to my wife's village. picking up a 125cc with flat tyres and leaking tank, with me, my wife and son heading to the beach for a sea food dinner, followed by a sunset beer on the beach. Hope to do it all again next year . . . :) Oh and my first TD at Rockingham, and a few rideouts with Karl and Skidlids. TopiToo |
The first time i ever rode off road in the Sahara. I'd read something saying "once you've been out in the desert you'll never be the same" Bollox i thought. How wrong i was. Blasting to the top of a dune about 800 feet high and looking at the harshness and beauty of the landscape, how do people live out there? Then howling down desert tracks and to reach the overnight stop and again riding to the top of the highest dune and watching the sun go down after hammering round more dunes. The worlds biggest wilderness/playground, but treat it with respect, also knowing that i'd barely scratched the surface. The night sky and the stars are just so vivid out there. |
First time I crashed on the road, I picked myself up dusted myself down, walked over to the bike picked it up, bashed a few things straight and rode off on it thinking this crashing lark ain't to bad. Took me a couple of years to learn otherwise and stop riding around as if I was invincible but it felt great while it lasted. |
fisrt time i got my knee down. a bit shallow but the feeling i had after trying to do its for ages was amazing. |
