oulton track day

final recoved from my best track day iv ever done

oulton is much harder than i remember and i was all over the place first time out.

iv final got a real good set up with my brakes and am now confident with them so my lap time fell in the afternoon and got 2.12min lap when i borrowed a lap timer for the final outting. i think theres 2.10 lap in the bike as i was braking early for a few corners and not turning in late enough for a few others. (phill going to tell me hes was doing under 2mins last week now)

the weather was fantastic just hope it holds out till saturday

thank you to andy and dom for there advice
im real feeling confident hanging off the bike now and riding on the ball of my feet as well as pressing on the pegs going around corners

Glad it went well for you Dom:) Andy said it was good to meet up with you again.

Just been comparing times from the CB500's (closest on the tracks to the 620's in times-ish) and last year at Oulton in July on a dry track, the best was running 2.05.3

Now, if you compare the top running CBs at Cadwell this year against Geoffys time on his 620sport (and Geoffy knows Cadwell v v well) the CB would be just ahead.........

Just doing a 'Domski' with some research:)

domski 05-Jul-2006 11:55

The CB's aren't doing 1.47's at Cadwell though

BUT, I'll put money on the CB's doing 2.01's or better at Oulton this year.

The 620's can get into the 1.58's I reckon.

:ninja:

WJB reckoned the top CB5s were doing 2.04s which would put us around the 2.02 mark. Sounds about right, but I'm bloody miles off that at the moment.

I didnt say that Dom;)

I was pulling their times off from Oulton last year, and then using another track where we raced with/ after them in same weather conditions for a timed difference overall.............sort of similar but not, if you follow my womans logic:D
CB's have had better/same times as 620 DD bikes when both were at the same circuit I fink:)

CK 05-Jul-2006 12:54

  as usual I cant edit my post:mad:

Just double checked, and it seems hairnets are about 3 - 4 secs quicker than 620's, and CB's about 3 secs slower (using Geoff as the 620 base time)

Sorry for guffing up :(

The top CB's were only doing 2.04's, which would be about 4-5 seconds off my 8-year-old CB pace (allowing 5 seconds for Hizzy's) and I was 2 seconds slower than Ellison!!!!

...BUT there is a super fast young Scot, who is making everyone look silly this year. He'll be down in the 2.01's, maybe even faster.

In the rain last month at Oulton, he started 20 seconds behind the KTM grid, and finished 16 seconds behind Dave Heal who won - except Dave Heal didn't have to carve through the KTM grid either!

He was doing 2.09's in the wet.

...and Ali, you're a fibber ;)

i know it somewhat irrelevant to me anyway. but it doesnt matter what times you do so long as you beat all the others?

I never bother with timing on a trackday, it bears little or no relevance to the race and puts you under unnecessary pressure.

Turn up and race who is next to you and that's as simple as it gets ;)

can't wait to see Clegg take his first win now tho ;) ;) ;)

My thoughts exactly...BUT do you think it gives you at least an idea of your pace ..a base from which to work..?

Dominic Clegg 05-Jul-2006 13:40

i wasnt bothered about timing as all day i sorting out my lines and braking points and messing with my gearing but for the last sesion i borrowed a lap timer because i thought it would be interesting to see how i did.

iv did this track day for two reasons
1) i show up at the track and i get 10 mins to lean it and qualify and end up with a poor position on the grid and as everyone bikes are so evenly matched theres no way you can run with the front runners.
2) when i first started dd i was asking how can i make my bike faster and i lot of you told me to do some track days and this one has helped. the next trick is to do as well as i did yesturday on saturday
