R1200gs Those nice folk at Vines in Guildford lent me a brand new GS for the day today so I went over and had lunch with CK and AK - congrats burd :) - and after a bit of aclimatisation it turned out to be a hoot! Scottch bought one and he told me that he's done more miles on the GS in a few months than he did in two years of Ducati ownership - I now know what he means, plenty of torque, loads of comfort and you're sitting at 4X4 level - really cool after just getting off a 996  Could well be convinced to add one to the stable ... |
May well be the tonic for that bad back.............;) |
pity I aint taller...altho they do lowering kits and its probably same kind of size as a numpty |
so you did get 'into' it in the end? Certainly looked quite comfy when you were going up the road:) |
Took your advice Charlotte and spent a bit of time adjusting a few things, did a lot of miles and it started to make sense. |
Yep, considering a GS or a KTM Adventurer too. There's a reason there so damm popular. My 1100S has all the engine/shaft/luggage/touring attributes but the comfort should be better on the more upright trailies. go on, you know it makes sense... |
Yep Bob, you're right ... just ordered a new one, without ABS, in red/black, get it next weekend :) |
Blimey Henners.... You get through bikes the way most people get through wine gums...although a wine gum probably lasts longer :p Ackcherly, I've always thought I'd quite like one of them myself as an everyday bike, just can't afford one. Enjoy it! |
Just cos you're too old for a 'Strada :frog: |
1 Attachment(s) Too late for Henners there's no saving the man from his madness but Rob, have a go on the KTM Adventure 950, quite simply its brilliant. Capable of scratching, touring, commuting, off road and a bloody good laugh. The best non sports bike, bike i've ridden. |
Did consider the KTM Shaun - 'cos I know how highly you rate yours, also the Multistrada Paul which I found too vibey and they don't seem to hold their value secondhand - just preferred the BM. Can't wait to drive it out to Spain in the autumn, it'll sail up the bad roads in the campo :) |

And on Ebay the week after :p ;) |
Probably  Too many bikes ... too little time ;) |
After watching The Long Way Round I was a little put off both the BMW and the KTM! The KTM, because they pulled out of the gig, worried their bikes wouldn't handle it. And the BMW because they were so damn heavy! Reckon I'll get me one of those little Russian Dnepr/Ural bikes. That seemed to handle the rough stuff pretty well, although maybe not so comfortable two up. |
I tried the Boxer Cup bike last year and loved it , but they were asking £9000 for a 2nd hand one also i'm not short but i struggled moving it around in tight areas.Just reading write up on R1200s thinking of taking one out as like the look.............but not sure.............. |

It looks like an explosion in a pipe factory ! What are you doing, pull yourself together man. One bike Kev |
It's RED .. .. and I didn't need my co Director's permission ;P Anyway - it actually a van  |
Nuff said :D |
BDG, yep, I am pretty convinced that'll be the replacement for the R1100S. 3 of my mates have them and they swear by them. One is an ex sports bike rider and he says you can still have a ball without going stupidmph, the others are both ex GS owners. Says it all really. I think the KTM has a lot of the GS positives and better quality suspension components and cheap, nylon bodywork. The only downside seem to the slighty questionable seat comfort, a chain (not idea for maga tours) and the seat height. How tall are you? Any issues? rgds, Rob |

Rob i'm 6' 3" tall. the cheap bodywork ain't so cheap, each side of the tank is £660 so crash bars are a good investment. Hope i don't test them in the Alps off roading next week. :D The seat is not brill but i've still managed a 17 hour day (few breaks for ferries etc) but have just oredered the 990 seat which is a lot softer so hope thats an improvement. I've got a scottoiler fitted so chain ain't a big problem, doesn't need adjusting very often, easily do a few thou between adjustments. The suspension is superb and no offence to Henners the bike makes you grin in a way no BMW GS can IMHO. It can be great fun and out of that genre of bikes that i've owned (Multistrada, BMW GS, and a Varadero) and done quite a few miles on its simply streets ahead for me. The fact that several of your mates who are ex GS owners have swapped means that i'm not alone in my sentiments. |
Henners, You utter, utter b*stard, you know that i allways wanted one. |
No worries Stu .. you can have this one when I sell it  Shaun - none taken :) I just don't like the look of them and I didn't want a chain drive on a bike I'll be using alot in a dusty part of Spain. |
When ??????????? |
Monday morning |
