749R servicing

what do you think I should be paying for a yearly service on my baby R ?
belts done last service 12months ago
total miles 2100
cheers

doogalman 20-Jul-2006 18:37

Give Mike a call at MDracing 07783024248, Spanners at bsb and has his small independant setup at Ewell. Top guy who will probably give you a rough ball park figure over the phone. Well well recomended by many. What you pay is not allways related to the level of service an expert will provide. Mike will treat the bike as if its his own.

Graham, think you will find on the R models that belts are part of the service every year, unlike other models that have belts every 2 years.

Would be interested in what kind of price you come up with as I have to get mine serviced (2 year) next month as well.

Loz 20-Jul-2006 19:15

Labour for 749R 12 month service is something like fourteen and a half hours, if I recall correctly. :o
It will be pricey if done "by the book".

Col996s 20-Jul-2006 21:06

How the hell can it take 14 hours to service a one year old bike. Not saying it's not correct it just seems along time?

Sharpy G 20-Jul-2006 21:44

maybe they have to make a special italian chant after removing each part ? LOL
or maybe they are working on the "you paid more for the bike" so "you can afford to pay more for the service" theory

which incidently isn't the case

still it's fun to ride !

doogalman 20-Jul-2006 22:04

Or maybe they are not sure how to do it!!!!
Mike will give you a spot on apraisel of what is needed.

Bionicle 20-Jul-2006 22:27

If you took the plunge and bought an R then you should have calculated your running and servicing costs into your yearly budget, if you have to ask what its going to cost it means your likely to start cutting corners on sevices etc.

But your looking at over £400.00

andyb 20-Jul-2006 23:01

If its 2yr service then they do the fork oil, which is one chunk of the hours.........

being as most have had seals replaced under warranty between services there should be no need to have the fork oil done at the service

Thats cos you ladies have your bikes too upright too much!

Part of the seal on ohlins is the oil itself, coming from them working...........

VAT excluded.

AndyW 21-Jul-2006 08:23

It costs about £450 for my 748r each year at Ducati Leeds.
This should be about the same for a 749r IMHO.
Belts every year etc and about 8Hrs labour.

??????
because someone has asked for expected servicing costs it means they're gonna start cutting corners ! Interesting statement.......

FWIW, my fork seals have been ok.

doogalman 21-Jul-2006 12:53

Graham will not be cutting corners , maybe on the road but not on expenditure. Graham what is P&H's view of expected hours /cost?

bike mad 21-Jul-2006 15:09

dont use back street garages as you need a mathesis wich costs loads and you have to buy it from ducati, the only people with them is real ducati garages,
:flame: :burn: :burn:

cheers Doug'l

thats more like it ! was feeling like I shouldn't have asked
as I did all my own stuff on the R6 & Elsie, just thought I would test the water

P&H said £400 to £600+ depending on shims ?
shims at 2100 miles, I would hope not anyway

will let you know, but I have an RAC Gold warranty so I have to get it stamped etc

doogalman 21-Jul-2006 15:36

So you up for the run sunday, may well be other "R" owners there , well worth a chat.

Sharpy G 21-Jul-2006 15:36

whats a methesis ? (wasn't that in Blakes 7/Doctor Who/Tomorrow People ?) - showing age !

749R belts every 2 years according to P&H ! YAY ! belts changed after 800 miles would be a choker

Fork Oil, according to Moto Rapido @ 1200miles

ze plot thickens

Sharpy G 21-Jul-2006 15:38

@Sharpy G

Was not trying to be funny, it was what i was told by the dealer when i was looking at my R.

Sharpy G 21-Jul-2006 16:42

no worries mate.......pretentious dealer or what ?

I would have told him that I would get my private mechanic who does my Lambo to do it for me if he had come out with s'thing like that to me !

not that I have a Lambo

but I do have a Volvo ! LOL

bike mad 22-Jul-2006 21:17

is a type of computer, if you had a manual you could see what is used for, and I am a mechanic, but not a ducati one so I have nothing to gain,
even the belts are done by the way it vibrates, and that's a new one to me,
