Nurburgring Desmo due style

WOULD we be able to get a hundred bikes to do a enduro race at the nordshliefe?????
I might have the oppertunity to hire the complete track for one day in 2007!
76 bends and 13.6 miles
well the talks are going well, but I need to finalise with hotels etc in the area which I will be doing next week!

anyone think it could happen?
DD and some DSC road bikes !

I dont think I will have much problem selling the Idea to the general public , but I thought this would make a great weekend for you lot!
I have also got another venue at the right price in Poland details coming shortley!
feedback would be nice.....mav

Loz 21-Jul-2006 22:37

Hmmm ... interesting! Huge undertaking, mind!
An early indication of cost per head will help. I'll be watching this thread with interest, but one question ... is it really going to be racing or will the more casual trackday rider be welcome?

madmav 21-Jul-2006 22:42

Loz, I'll go with the flow on this... The fact is I thought it might turn out a bit like a track day split into 4 sessions 25bikes on track at any one time would give you plenty of room and may even help the slower riders enjoy it!
The undertaking side is no problem for me as I could fill the spaces with joe public with 1 advert in the MCN...It was and is just a thought for the DSC...mav

Rattler 21-Jul-2006 23:00

Mav - you da man !!!! Great idea, will it float - fug knows - but all power to ya fella. If it happens, count me in!!!

Tim

Rob 998s 22-Jul-2006 00:27

Count me in for road bikes Mav. Awesome circuit. Would be great to give The Ring another visit.

Rally 22-Jul-2006 00:35

Mav, you can put me down as a definite right now. Just having it for bikes only would be great... but only 25 bikes spread over 13.6 miles? I'm totally there.

bradders 22-Jul-2006 09:08

you really are mad....count me in!! I'm following Rally round.....

clint 22-Jul-2006 10:01

Count me in Mav.
Bikes only....great.

Clint.

Dougducati 22-Jul-2006 10:26

Sounds like an insane idea. I'm in. (As long as I don't need to take out a mortgage of course!!)

I'm sure if you're short on takers other Ducati Clubs in Belgium, Holland, Germany etc. would be able to drag a few people along.

Fastfasulli 22-Jul-2006 10:40

That sounds like a great idea. I am a dd'er if if the price was right etc etc I would certainly think seriously about this one. Even if I ended up going on a road bike

Good luck sorting it

Fiver 22-Jul-2006 10:43

This sounds pretty fun - I've not done any track days and have only ridden on the roads...
Would your average road rider need anything other than a regular licence and a set of leathers to be able to attend?
Thanks
Cy

domski 22-Jul-2006 11:25

Did you say undertaking? :o

webbyc 22-Jul-2006 11:33

Mav sounds great to be able to ride the ring without being buzzed by M3s, M5s Lotus Elises, GT3s etc etc. Might even learn the way round!!!

Depends when but looks good for me.

weeksy2 22-Jul-2006 11:49

Yup i'm in Mav fella... sounds like a superb idea to me mate.

swannymere 22-Jul-2006 11:57

I'll be up for it on my 749:devil:

pibbow 22-Jul-2006 12:27

Count me in mav The sooner I know the date the better. I would post this on the Up North Forum I'm sure it would work.

DaveB916 22-Jul-2006 13:04

Mav i am up for that and would probably take 6 places you know the crew.

Cheers

Chris!! Thats what i'm doing next week..
Mav interesting idea. Would you be able to hold a race or would it be a Time trial with staggered start?

Not sure roy untill I finalise details next week !
There are lots of things to discuss when we get around the table, one being that this would be an organised club event,
all I know at the moment is It's 99% i can hire The track ! Mega money for the day but when you divide it up by 100, and then include hotels etc etc It's well dooable....
They approached me so I think I have a shout on what we need and how we should do it to a point,,
you guys/galls can give me some ideas
I think personaly we could Mix DD races and Members (road bikes) up into 4 teams of say 25 and do some sort of endurance race!
I think that way all people would benifit from it! and as always
the fastest dont always win!!loL
waddaya think?

Not so Mad mav....

doogalman 22-Jul-2006 14:26

Is this including the GP loop?? Or just the nordshleife?? I would have thought a race of some sort would require a lot of red tape and legalities to be surmounted, Endurance in a regularity type format maybe as opposed to head to head? A lot of red mist could descend in a full on type of event with very broad knowledge/skill levels. What about the possibility of a wet event MMmmmm Risky. Loads of respect for you to contemplate this undertaking. Still you know the place better than most of us. Just out of interest do you know when the last Motorcycle race was held there?

weeksy2 22-Jul-2006 14:34

Don't see much point in a race, can see a million negatives for it and very few positives.

I'm with Weeksy on that mate ... but as a "bike only trackday" mainly filled with people we know you could be on to a right winner, I think the "race" bit will scare more people off than it attracts in my opinion ...

Mate, this is one trip i'm deffo in for :)

I think this would be a better way! (trackday)

So who's up 4 a Mega mega meet at the ring?

oh yes ... indeedy ..... :)

doogalman 22-Jul-2006 17:22

Mav, even if you put 100 bikes on the nordschleife in one go , with an open pit lane the place would be fairly empty most of the day. it is a tiring track to ride constantly all day. So probably only find 50 bikes on the track at once.
Just my thoughts mind.

pibbow 22-Jul-2006 20:07

I would agree most first timers will find it very exhausting.

I have got the ok from my other half so in the words of Marvin Gay LETS GET IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CK 22-Jul-2006 21:24

Mav, what a great idea!!

If you did get the other Ducati clubs (Germany/Holland etc) involved as previously mentioned it could be a new beginning of a huge event!

We all missed WDW this year due to its cancellation, so if this took off backed also by Ducati itself, it could easily be a fantastic event for every 2 years!

Good luck, and provisionally stick us down for at least 2 bikes and 2 or 3 riders

MARTIN H 22-Jul-2006 21:44

I am up for this. Not interested in the race idea as I cant see that happening. But as an open pit lane track day I think it would be very special indeed. Mav if you can give some idea of likely costs etc I think you would be onto a winner. Would it be Ducati only? Only asking as I could probably get a few people to come but not on Ducatis.

Just out of interest, when was the last time racing of any sort took place there?

doogalman 22-Jul-2006 22:30

1983 i think. Correct me if i am wrong.

madmav 23-Jul-2006 00:58

will we ever know Officially

To put this in context. In 1974 the motorcycle racers, who were still racing the TT mountain circuit, boycotted the Nordschleife because it was too dangerous and the car drivers started making unhappy noises. In 1976 Niki Lauda was seriously injured and the end came shortly after that.

mav

doogalman 23-Jul-2006 07:13

Last bike GP at the nordschleife ,1980 i think.

psychlist 23-Jul-2006 09:16

Yes please

A time trial or track day round the 'ring Mav, excellent idea!
You can count me in so long as I don't have to get held up in the corners by any gixxers :frog:
Now then, when can I get some practice

I recon It's those ****e BT014's but hey ho cant blame the tools of the trade now can I?
maybe I'm just getting too old for it !lol
see you friday 11am Dover ...............mav
ps
are you gonna be practising your stand up wheelies ?

doogalman 23-Jul-2006 12:45

Why wait till Friday!!!

DaveB916 23-Jul-2006 15:00

Numbers

Mav, Just a thought but 100 bikes is not that many on that loop.

I think you could very easily add another 50 without anyone even noticing?

After all on a Duc you need to re-fuel every 4 laps...lol

Also us 'old farts' need a tea break evey other session.....lol

Sounds good though, I did a Nurburg Riders Course there 3 days and closed track, no cars, was fun but could not handle riding in a very close group od 8 or so, you need to have full confidence in the man and machine ahead, did not like it.

Any discount for 'navigators' .......lol

crust 23-Jul-2006 15:18

I'd be up for a bike only trackday

not interested in any kind of time trial/race thingy

:)Crust

stumpy1 24-Jul-2006 06:28

Grib 24-Jul-2006 07:39
