XB12R to 749S 'Ello everybody eyam virry virry appy to be ere and thees ees mya firsta post on the Ducati Sporting Club (ahem) Contrary to what you may have heard :) , I run a Buell XB12R Firebolt on the road and I'm seriously considering swapping it for a new 749S. The Buell is a great bike and as you will know it handles superbly on the corners and has great drive off the throttle. Its simple design makes it a breeze to maintain but it is, however a little primitive and suffers somewhat from a lack of absolute rpm. Has anyone made the swap from Buell to Ducati (or vice-versa) ? I'd like to get your opinions. |
I think you should be considering swapping your crappy Yamaha for one them Honda thingies. LOL |
Are you the REAL Valentino Rossi, if so welcome. I'm actually Troy Bayliss but didn't want to draw any undue attention so hide under the masquerade of BDG, nobody has sussed me so far.;) Its also traditional for newbies to buy a round of drinks at the bar so get yer money out yer tight fuzzy haired git. I'll have a Nuclear Brown Ale please. |

I know of someone who went from a 748r to a Buell or maybe vice versa, can't really remember but there again I am over 70. John Surtees MBE, 7 times motorcyle world champion and F1 world champ 1964. |

My old mate Sparkin, who still posts on this board, went from owning a succession of Ducatis to owning a Buell Lightening. We met him the other week at the Buell and European V-Twin festival at Spilsby, Lincs. He joined us on a blat to the pub and was going to tell us how the Buell compared to the Duke when we got there, but we never got to hear about it because all the Dukes got to the pub first and by the time Sparkin caught up with us we'd already had a couple of pints and were ready to go again  Only joking...drop him a PM and see what he thinks |
PM dropped... |

I have both a 998s and a Buell Cyclone ... (and a GS1150 ADV) To be honest, I prefer riding the Buell , however very different tools for different purposes. |
Well my boy,if you`re thinking about it the chances are you`ll do it.My Buell is only a humble X1 tuber not a hi tech fueller like your XB. Performance the 749 is better, reliability I`d say the Ducati edges it to,I`ve only ever been let down by a Ducati once in well over 100000miles and that was a rectifer on a ten year old 888,I`ve only had the Buell a short while and it`s already sheared a engine mount:( Handling........Mmmm the Ducati is more stable mid corner, but the Buell turns quicker. I can service my Buell for under £40,you`ll do well to do the 749 for under £400. The Buell takes me back 20 odd years to when no one was bothered about lap times, tyre compounds and getting their knee down, and the only people in one peice leathers were BMW riders,it`s just a hoot to ride. I absolutely love riding the Buell, more than any other bike I`ve had,it`s not a particully good bike, but it does it for me:D Like the Pieman says "very different tools for different purposes" |
50/50 between this board and http://www.ukbeg.com/frameset.htm me old mate:D Rode with the BHCN the other week, but the bike is currently in Manchester being majorally repaired:( getting a flight to Manchester to pick it up next Saturday, just need a fun route home;) |
