What is it with this club??

I see I've had my membership removed, my little members logo has gone, all because I'm a couple of days late renewing.

Now some of you might know, some might not, most probably don't care, but I'm in Poland at the moment and haven't had an opportunity to send in my cheque.

Luckily I got an email reminder to say I was going to be cut off, so I sent of a PM to explain the situation that I'll send my cheque in at the weekend when I get back, but to no avail - no reply, and I've been chopped. Can't see the DSC Topics, officially no longer a member.

Rant over
Martin

That's done it... I'll have to rejoin - don't want to be associated with being fashionable...

Sharpy G 02-Aug-2006 15:42

Well I've always been quite happy to be a paid-up member, but this makes me question it. I offered to pay by credit card or whatever, but never even got a reply to my PM..

I've seen Fast n Furious 3
and I have a Mk2 Escort Mexico

so I know what a drift is !

LOL

Ray 02-Aug-2006 15:51

Martin,

You are not alone, I tried a few begging PMs and the classic "me cheques in the post" approach. (it is Honest!!) Seems to have worked??:D

Maybe the ruthless efficiency of the MT has tightened to avoid potential cries of "get yer act together I hear mysterious member X's membership has expired 27 mins ago and look they are still posting drivel in the members area"

Maybe its one of the benefits of the new board........................."computer says noh"

Just a few points ...

The removal of the roundel etc on the website is done automatically now so it's not as though someone has done it with knowledge that you're trying to renew.

Also, the membership secretary is a very busy woman in her day job so simply may not have had a chance yet.

I know these don't change the fact that you're without your roundel etc but hopefully they might go some way to explaining what is actually happening.

I'm assuming you've sent your e-mail to membership@ducatisportingclub.com?

Loz 02-Aug-2006 15:51

Martin
I don't wish to diminish the irritation you feel or the inconvenience you're suffering, but the Club is run by volunteers who have jobs and lives outside of the DSC. How long have you been waiting for a reply to your PM? If it's less than a couple of days, I'd be inclined to cut the membership secretary a little slack. (If it's a couple of weeks, then you can roast her! )

Sharpy G 02-Aug-2006 15:57

Can you join up online yet ? can't seem to find it if so

Not only am I without my roundel but I'm without access to the DSC Topics members only area. And yes, I appreciate the Membership Secretary is a volunteer and is a very busy woman and works very hard for the good of the club. Just a long way from home (feels it anyway) and bl**dy irritated

I don't like where this is going.................If Lizzie is nowhere to be seen at Cadwell then I've lost me appetite:eek:

Don't worry Martin, we're still yer mates! Where are you in Poland, I might have to be in Wroclaw sometime soon, so if you're anywhere nearby you can show me where the Pole dancing clubs are (geddit)...

I'll get me coat

I'm in Gliwice, just between Katowice and Wroclaw, about an hour and half away by all accounts.... Give me a shout if you're coming this way...

And I've calmed down now - off to a bar now... :) :)

And I'm still going to renew my membership..

Cheers
Martin

webteam 02-Aug-2006 16:56

We've had a few people 'cut off in their prime' this month and so I'm thinking of changing the current automated expiry routines.

What happens now is that 3 days before your membership is due to expire, the message board sends out a reminder. Then on the last day of the month (or one deay earlier if you're Skids or Ray) your access to the message board reverts to a non-member status. Both the reminder email and status changes are automated routines and no manual intervention is required by the webteam or anyone else.
As soon as Lizzie gets your completed renewal form, she updates the subscription dates on the message board and you then have access to the membership areas again.

Personally I don't think the 3 days notice is enough, I'm thinking of increasing this to 2 weeks or 4 weeks notice - any thoughts/opinions ?

Eamonn

PS Martin, until Lizzie gets the membership details up to date, I've reinstated your membership on the board.

Loz 02-Aug-2006 17:01

Membership lasts 12 months, so four weeks seems proportionate and should give most folks time to arrange their renewal.

Redruth 02-Aug-2006 18:46

Martin, I think it's because there's going to be a secret ballot about whether or not you should be allowed to rejoin. There's a (previously) top secret system whereby an e-mail saying your membership was about to lapse and to vote in a secret pole. Most people don't know you so probably voted 'for'. I, on the other hand ...

True-- maybe we should ban him . But after all the fun we had on RTL don't give a fig what colour Martin runs. You just better pay up and get back out we us BHCN boys where you belong . 4D

lizzie 02-Aug-2006 21:56

Sorry Martin; yes I got your PM and I should have replied to it by now but I'm a bit preoccupied with the trackdays and now dealing with the monies for the pig roast. Anyone can pay over the phone using a credit or debit card, my home number is 01892 545975. I'll PM you my mobile number so you can call during the day or text me your card number.

As other people have said, one of the new things introduced when we changed boards is that losing your roundel is automatic once the expiry date arrives; it's nothing personal. In fact there is a glitch in that you actually get booted out at 00.00 on the morning of the last day of the month. I'm correcting those as I as deal with the renewals, but it's going to take a while to get that one resolved.

As for renewals, every DSC member, board user or not, gets an invitation to renew their membership about a fortnight before the end of the month. I was slightly late this month, sending out 52 letters on 20 July, but it's a balancing act between sending them out so early that people think 'it's not due yet, I'll deal with it later' (and then not doing so) and giving them enough time to get the money to me before their membership has actually expired. The message board reminder is a new thing, since May I think, but it will never be the only reminder you get (unless the reminder gets lost in the post or you've moved and not told me!).

If you don't renew, you'll get a reminder a couple of weeks after expiry; if you still don't renew (or let me know you don't wish to renew), you get a final reminder six weeks or so after expiry. So that's another 97 letters I've sent this month.

I'm about to go through the renewals I've received in the last couple of days to reinstate roundels. Letters to those people with new membership cards is probably going to have to wait until Saturday though, sorry.

Last thing - we don't as yet have the facility to join or renew online, though we are working on that one. Sharpy - you know you'd love to join us - click here http://www.ducatisportingclub.com/fi...ershipForm.pdf to download the membership application form (or I can send you one if you can't print it out).

Lizzie

lizzie 02-Aug-2006 22:21

Right, I've now updated the roundels of everyone I've had renewals from.... I think! If yours has not reappeared when it should have done, please can you send me a PM.

Also, I suspect there are members out there posting on the board who've never actually told me or the webteam what name they are using on the board. Without that info, we've got no means of matching up 'webnames' with real life names, so if that applies to you, please can you let me know.

MJS 03-Aug-2006 06:26

My head hurts...

Back in the office this morning.. head is a little sore, but it would have been rude not take advantage of the Project Manager taking me out...

Having read through the messages... I would say the following -

Lizzie - thanks, I appreciate it wasn't you're doing, I will send a text with my details later, have no intention of leaving no matter what everyone says!

Eamonn - the cut off does seem pretty sharp, a couple of weeks would seem a more sensible time. Thanks for reinstating me, and the new board is a huge improvement - one little bit of sanity in a frustrating place..!

Glyn/Fordie - the bike may be yellow, but with a bit of luck when I get home I might be able to treat myself to a nice new red one

Keefy - I thought I joined the inner echelon a few weeks back - wasn't that what that strange initiation ceremony was about? Or was that only BHCN inner echelon

Ruth - I would of course be very disappointed if you had voted for my reinstatement  ...

AndyB - there may be a lot of them in town, but there's even more of them here.. and they're a lot more friendly and polite than the average N'mpton locals

Final thought - wouldn't everyone's life be easier (Lizzie in particular) if there was a facility to join/renew online? Now we've got this fab new board, it it possible?

Thanks to all
Martin

Never mind all this roundel stuff. Isn't Poland great???? Was there last year on the 996 and have to say: cheap beer, great food (if a little "homely"), great people. I didn't seem to get any sleep as we spent all night drinking and clubbing and I have to say the female population was very impressive.............................. Went back to Szcezyn (or however its spelt) this year and same story. Now back to this subscription melarkey, I would certainly subscribe if there were a DSC run to Poland/carpathians etc.

Certainly have to agree with you so far based on what I've seen - it's been a real eye-opener, I didn't expect much, but it's far exceeded my expectations so far, certainly not a hardship posting! Let's not say too much though - don't want it getting spoiled....
