Cant you sent the boys round to "hack" him back a little?:D

antonye 07-Aug-2006 09:39

As I said, only one person to blame for leaving the back door unlocked and that's the one with the keys.

I would suggest you find a more competant service provider if they can't keep their security patches up to date ... that is what you pay them for, right?

Too many to mention, and it's like saying "I want to buy a motorcycle" because it's a far too generic question - what is your budget, what do you want it for, what are you going to do with it, how are your pages made (plain html/asp/php/perl/other), what extras do you need (email/ftp/ssl), etc, etc.

To be fully honest Keith, I do own a web hosting company and it is something that we do, but I'm afraid that I really don't have the time at the moment to take on another client as they're always more hassle than they pay ... especially the ones with baseball bats ;) It just ends up being a busman's holiday in the end.

Advice to friends is always free though, so if you want advice on anything that you've found then feel free to drop me a line.

No worries. It's probably a new security hole that has been exploited. Once a fix is found, they will patch the server and restore a previous copy of the site so you shouldn't need to do much.

It just depends if it was an old (and known) security hole that was exploited - it shows that they have a slack policy on updates, or a good policy but bad implementation!

Nothing like exploiting an old (and known) hole............and your right, probably a slack policy..allways spoils the implementation!:D ;)
