Rockingham National Track Day Hi Everyone, Would any of you recommend the Rockingham circuit for a first time track day on a 900ss FE at all? Its real close to my house (relatively) so it would make transport (riding) to the venue best for me, but I want to know if the circuit is worth it on a bike. I've been round it during a BMW open day, so I have a vague idea about it, but some advice would be useful. Thank you in advance for your thoughts. |
i actually quite like it. probably not the easiest to learn but having been there before you should be ok assuming it was the same lay out. just take your time learning it, eat and drink little and often and stop if you get too tired. probably the best set of left handers in the country. |
I like it too, lots of fun for a short track. |
Same here, love Rockingham because it's so different to everywhere else and it's cheaper than most too. Give it a try, and if you don't like it then go home! :D |
Here is the circuit layout... |
yep thats the usual national layout. its good. do it. enjoy |
It's slippery as hell in the wet... that's the only thing.... |
Isnt it lacking in grip in the dry as well? |
No, it's not lacking in grip in the dry, as my completely ragged tyre edges will attest. Good choice for a 900SS 'cos it's not an out and out power track |

What about that first right hander after the straight ( ) by the pit entrance, i understand thats poor grip.... |

nope, the whole circuit is super grippy in the dry, the rubber the cars put down see to that ..... that very same rubber is the reason its like an ice rink in the wet though ... hth |
I can see i need to get back to my source....... |

**** informant eh ..... one of your daily challenges no doubt .. !!! |
information is power.......... |
Crackin' circuit Grommit - you'll love it! |
Brilliant little track, we used to live close by, but haven't been for ages now. It's a bit featureless, so not as interesting as the big, established tracks like Cadwell etc, but it's got a good mix of corners :) Had my first taste of a GSXR1000 round there, that big right down to the hairpin before the huge left hander was a bit quick on that monster! |
As above...great in the dry...slippery as hell in the wet (13 fallers during a DSC trackday there a few years back when it rained!) Good mix of corners and good facilities, although not very good for spectating between sessions. I like the place. |

The view from the top of the garages is pretty good. I agree it is a fine track, but be careful if it is wet, because the garage floors get really slippy. I mean REALLY slippy. |
