Donington Report - Highs & Lows

Ultimately I am very dissapointed with the way my race turned out. Crashing on the first corner of the first lap was not part of the grand plan. I had a really good trackday on Saturday and was amazed with my qualifying result. Sadly this didn't translate into a race result.

Anyway, if you have the inclination, here's my rather long race report:

Nice report Phill, don't beat yourself up too much though.

That completes the Twickenham three hitting the deck this year :D

At least your out there doing it - good bits and bad - while we all watch from the sidelines. Keep enjoying all of the experiences - and maybe I'll see you on the grid next season (looking up from the back of the grid to your lofty positions at the front!). Cheers,

Ian :)

At least you made it to the first corner. After coming off in qualifying and being hit by another bike as I lay in the gravel trap, I didn't even make the start, despite having achieved my best ever qualifying result! Bike still in bits and full of gravel etc.
Never mind eh, we'll make up for it next time!

Tonio600 14-Aug-2006 14:54

As Ian says, at least you both made it to the track :)

Wasn't a 998 that hit you was it?

Zimbo16 14-Aug-2006 17:46

Not this time, just a 620 monster, but I'll try for a 998 next time perhaps?

We were watching the dd race in a hospitality suite that i blagged my way into at the first corner.

Really felt for you dude. The TV camera zoomed in on you just as you kicked the gravel and we watched you slump off with head held low.

Done it myself, its a long race when you're sat at the side watching.

Just unlucky not bad riding.

As long as you're ok, thats the main thing.

Thanks Wilf I'm fine. Bike's not too badly damaged at all. Started first time on the button when I got back home to the garage.

To be honest, I didn't even watch the race. I just walked back to my car, got out of my leathers and then walked back to scrutineering to wait for the bike. Not in the best of moods.

Feeling OK about it now though and wondering how I get hold of that TV footage. Might be kind of amusing to add it to my race report. Anyone know how to get hold of a DVD or similar of the race? Is it even possible.

Phil, mate. You showed many of the DD "old timers" how to qualify in the wet - thats gotta bring a smile to your face :-)

And as many have said - youre out there racing while the rest of us just sit on the sidelines.

Hmm. Just in from sanding down all the filler in my smashed TD panels. They'll look like new come Cadwell :-O

Superb riding Phill... up until the Redgate 'incident'!

Seriously impressive mate. Another bloody Aussie sandbagger!! (unlike TP who is an Aussie Sandtrapper). Keep your chin up though, it's all experience (even bad can be good).

Look forward not back, Snetterton next. Get your butt on the podium there instead ;)

Well done :)

There are about 10 cameras arround the circuit and they are on display in the hospitality suites. not sure if its recorded or who controls it etc. maybe worth getting in touch with the circuit?

Phill,

From my view, you got pushed wide as Phil parked it on the apex of Redgate, I was outside of both of you , he ran wide, you sat up straight, and I went underneath Phil on the exit?

First corner physcology maybe, as you said if you laid it down and held the line you would have been fine. First corner is a bitch, be aggressive, hold your line next time!

Park it, learn from it, move on to Snetterton.

Well done on Qualy though, superb!
