info on 620 ss race conversion? thinking of buying a 620 ss roadbike to convert for next season. would need end cans - any idea where & how much? are the suspenders up to racing with my muscular  13 and a half frame onboard, or does it need work? do the suspension adjusters work, or just click for a placebo effect, like a jap. bike? any pitfalls i should take in before buying? cheers fella's! |
Just buy the bleeding thing and worry about the rest after christmas ;) :D |
Actually, you got me thinking :o We should have a 'How to convert your Ducati to a DD racer' page on the www.DDRACER.com website. Have you bought it yet? |
if i buy it i'll be worrying about it before cadwell:( just want to know if I'm doing the right thing, or better to buy a race bike. would like one road "legal" tho'... |
Parts are no more expensive to buy than Jap stuff. A couple of race silencers, re-sprung shock, race fairing etc. All can be found on flea bay or on here. The bike you've talked about seems nice, buy it, ride it, prep it, race it and grin like hell :D :D :D |
if anyone has any bits, let me know! would probably need a race clock bracket as well - would be fitting a 916 fairing. |
Quote:
Why? What's wrong with the Sport fairing? It fits already. You're a complicated man aren't you  :D |
thought you said constipated then..... 916 fairing is pretty, and can get a nice tall screen for my stiff neck. oe fairing going back on when bike sold as careful owner road bike:lol: got to sort catch tray anyway, so seemed easiest. bet the oe fairing would sell for a good few quid on ebay... |

You are joking arnt you Dom ? The SSie are one of the worst looking bikes ever made. No wonder the sales figures are complete pants. Ducati styled the best looking bikes in the world with the 916, then fell flat on their faces with everything else theyve produced since. |

If you're building a 620 Sport race bike on a bit of a tight budget (which Rich is), surely it makes more sense just to buy a Sport race fairing, rather than going through the hassle of fitting a 916 fairing. I suppose it may not cost much more, but if you need a 916 style fairing stay (or a modified one) that's £100 ish straight away. It may be uglier, but at least the Sport fairing will go straight on for just the cost of the panels. |
yeh but no but ... you cant easily get spare screens for ssie fairings let alone panels, but you can find 916 panels and screens everywhere, in a choice of shapes and colours to suit every budget ;) |

Cheeky sod. What's wrong with this? I think it's gorgeous! ![]() |

Panels and screens are easily available. MRA do a screen as do Powerbronze for £39. |

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :D We like that ;) Can I play? |
Mebbe ;) One day when you've grown up like. |

   I think I may need one of them there 800's for DD next season. There are too many faaaaaaaaaast people on faaaaaaaaaast bikes entering it :o |
Cheapest way is to spend £2500 on a bike that is already prepped and has full exhaust and decent suspension ;) ;) ;) See mr Couch :) |

They do look better in black nige, and that is a good pic, but ... the designer in me just cringes looking at the style lines going in all different directions - it looks like a parts bin bodywork special because of those strange lines the engineer in me looks at the compromises in the rear end of the frame to put a passenger and luggage capable tail on - its a touring frame Mind you, I would probably pay you money to have a ride on yours  I'm sure the view from the cockpit is much better :biaggi: |
twpd - how does the stupid tank pad come off? tools or violence? didn't think you'd be able to get a race fairing for a ss bike. anybody got a number? also, who should i phone to price up some cans? cheers fella's! |
 Quote:
Cr@p! :D The SSie looks fantastic, far better to have those sculpted flowing lines than the flat panel boring old style SS that owed more to the "dustbin" fairings on your 50's racers than it did to 90's machinery or styling :p The only "old" style bikes that looked good were the 851/888 series, even the Paso looks better than the old SS  |
 Sorry Paul, missed what you were trying to tell me there, what was that again ;) |
Quote:
Your argument was going quite well till that statement LOL |
Quote:
you just pulled it off...its only on with glue!!! just done mine!! you can get a race fairing for a SS they are on ebay, some german firm!! cans look on ebay!! |
Ricambi Weiss in Germany do them, but Antoine has a contact in France I think who does some nice stuff. Rich, drop Ali a PM, he gets through more panels than most  Also, you may have to wait until tomorrow to get more info as half the club are at Cadwell Park. ;) Have you bought that bike yet? |
getting closer...think I'm gonna go for the roadbike and play with the traffic for a bit! you had a day off yesterday - what's todays excuse? you'll get the sack before you get a pay packet!:burn: just knocked up a list of pre - injection R1 spares if anyone's interested in an email. everything from clutch levers to a frame! just send me a PM. |

My boss is 150 miles away??? I am getting work done though - multi-tasking like a behatch. ;) |
Have you bought a bike yet? |
Quote:
Multi-Tasking!?! Only women can do that, allegedly ;) |
Quote:
Correct!! You didn't think I was the one doing the work did you? :o I said I was getting work done. Rich - Have you bought a bike yet? |
Dom - are you working yet ? |
Quote:
I'm at a place of work, if that's what you mean? Rich - have you got a bike yet? |
Quote:
You were doing well until the last 3 words. ;) |
no, not yet dom. need dollars. getting close tho'. got a bit back on R1 bits, and may assault the plastic for the balance.. sleeping AND dreaming is not multi tasking. drinking tea and playing computers count?:puzzled: |

Well I like them far more than Terreblance's other creations. I do agree re. the frame. It should be a lightweight bolt-on subframe. The existing frame is a bad thing for racing in terms crash resistance and weight...in the USA they cut the rear off and put a proper subframe on..here in the UK we aren't allowed to do it. If you're willing to pay then we hould talk - it's an absolute hoot to ride. A bit underpowered against the big 4's but, nonetheless a lot of fun. Corner speed is high. |
Quote:
it is, well I can't fault it :) Front has stiffer linear springs and rear feels great ;) |

The rubber pad just pulls off - getting the double-side foam tape off is another matter altogether. The bodywork is from Ricambi Weiss in Germany. They have an eBay shop but, it's cheaper to buy direct from them...just Google. The seat is from Ducati Kaemna in Germany (expensive but it fits straight away). Don't buy the Ricambi seat - it's ****. I talk to a lad who races an 800ss in the USA. He has 999 bodywork on it - apparently it goes on well with very little modification. |

As you know - it's a myth that we choose to perpetuate. Let a woman know you can multi-task and she'll just give you more work to do. I can quite happily drink beer, surf the web, listen to music and watch the box all at once. |

Its made me think about when I started racing ... I was running a 350 velocette (stop laughing at the back, it was only 5 years ago !) in vintage events, even then I was entering up to 3 classes per meeting, so I got to race behind a lot of 500s, and they were so slow into the corners I got really fed up with them ... so I bought one. A velo 500, so it felt and handled just the same as my 350. The very first meeting I rode it at everything was going really well as I got used to the extra grunt, and then I came off it 3 times in 2 days :o as well as surviving a massive holding-on-by-one-hand-with-feet-flying-in-the-air-highside. Well, it was 3-sisters, and it was wet  Oops, shouldnt be telling you that just now should I nige  |
Quote:
So THAT's where Domski's working then :D |
Quote:
I'm fearless - has no effect on me altho' ur reasoning for getting a new bike was amusing. "I want a more powerful bike to go slower". Go figure! |
