Fastest DD tracks

The fastest average speed at any track was set by Geoff last season at Snetterton, 86.08mph.

Second fastest was the last meeting at Donington, and Glenn's lap of 83.70mph.

How about Cadwell Woodlands then? 60-something? It's pretty tight and twisty...

How about 75.30mph :o

I think that's pretty good considering how slow the bikes are (and a little bit interesting)

WeeJohnyB 26-Aug-2006 17:12

bleedin eck, that's a shocker.

I would not have guessed anything like as fast as that for the woodland circuit. I must have a look at my speedo next time going through Hall bends!

WeeJohnyB

domski 26-Aug-2006 17:52

Yeah, it's actually a faster average speed than the full Cadwell circuit!

That's also Geoff @ 73.17mph.

Amazing really.

NBs996 26-Aug-2006 18:10

That's weired!
My best laps...
Woodland - 70.45
Full - 70.15

domski 26-Aug-2006 18:15

Yeah it is weird innit. When you think the rest of Cadwell is very fast, how do you go even faster on the twisty stuff????

NBs996 26-Aug-2006 18:20

Well one factor might be gearing.
Dunno about others, but I used shorter gearing on the woodland, therefor accelerated faster. The gearing for the full circuit would slow down the woodland section I'da thought?

wilf 26-Aug-2006 20:30

Are you looking at the average speed for the whole race?

Dont forget that includes the slow first lap from a standing start, this means you get a really slow laptime for the first lap of the full circuit but it wouldnt make any difference to the woodland circuit as you're not getting the benefit of the start/finish straight and going right almost as your off the line.

To check for real you'd need a lap time from each and know the lap distance of each, then you can get the real lap 'speed'

just an idea ?? ??

Fastest lap Wilf ;)

May sound daft, but following some of the fast DD guys round cadwell last week, i found that they are FAST through hall bends, bottom of the mountain and the last corner (whatever thats called), but, I seemed to fly by them mid corner at the first left hander, charlies and chris curve, so maybe there's something in it ?????

Interesting - I was having to change down into Charlies One and then again going into Charlies Two - maybe its a torque / drive thing??? Were you flat out into Coppice?

Coppice is the first corner right ? if so, no! change down one then drive up the hill. sure i could go into it flat out but run out of nerve / skill.

domski 26-Aug-2006 22:03

Coppice is flat on the DD bike, down one for Charlies 1 and another for Charlies 2 - although I don't like changing down on the way up the hill, but it's a wee bit fast otherwise :o

TP 26-Aug-2006 22:03

I had the opportunity to follow lots of different riders up Coppice in all the groups. The pointy end of the DD field seemed to roll up there around 105mph - some quicker. On the 916 I was riding I was pulling somewhere around 140mph down the start finish straight and I reckon you'd have to be a fairly quick rider with some decent rubber to just chuck that into Coppice!

OK - I was nearly flat out up Coppice (the first left) - will need to be on the race day!! then drive up the hill, down one for C1, flat out, down another for C2, then flat out down Park, ........ when going into Chris Curve I am flat out, and drive as far as I dare into the gooseneck (if I've got the part of the track right).

I reckon that we're (DD'ers) slower on the faster parts if that makes sense, because we've got less power and realistically closer to the limits of the engines and Diablos. Whereas in the slower bends we can match the bigger bikes as its less about power and grip and more about being partially insane.

You coming out to play then? I heard that you'd sold out and dragged the 996 out again ;)

Dominic Clegg 29-Aug-2006 14:22

i was flat out into coppice and just rolled off the gas for charlies one as i found changing down ment trying to find it again around charlies 2 but all staying in top gear meant you could run around charlies 2 flat out

also found a lot of speed at barn with it being off camber id been wussing it but found that theres a lot of grip

It's best to go in deep and spin the rear to turn the bike on the way out...

Dominic Clegg 29-Aug-2006 14:48

600 doesnt have enough power. maybe in the wet but could end up on my arse

Otei 29-Aug-2006 16:45

Something tells me Tony's tongue was planted firmly in his cheek when he made that comment Dominic.

Interesting point about the wet though, we'll have to get slidemaster Couch to show us on raceday at Cadwell! :D ;)

yeah I'm coming to play at cadwell... so you'll have to pick your game up for october!

Dragged the 996 out for Donny a week after DD. Booked it ages ago for practice but then the date got changed - so the race ended up being practice for the track day!

I can't answer that without being libelous

All I can say is, it's flat chat on my ickle bike ;)

andys 900ss 29-Aug-2006 18:28

Interesting one this,

I was changing down one going into Coppice, but holding the thottle wide open driving up to Charlies one and sometimes going down another on the entry, changing up one on the exit of Charlies two. Slow-in fast out, maybe.

I also got into fourth along hall bends and lifted the front slightly before going into the Hairpin? for which I got blank looks off some other DD'rs.

Andy

added: Now on the R1 it was a totally different track, eg: Going down park, as soon as I saw the corner it was on the brakes, where one the 583 you was waiting, waiting....

It's weird, I do remember being flat out in Coppice last March (following Geoff's advice) but couldn't decently do it during the DSC trackday... There was always a little voice telling me "you won't go through" and then I backed off (a bit... but I knew shouldn't have).

I don't remember having made me bike faster since the beginning of the season...

...

GOT IT :D Now I do :)

Yes I did :D The bike went to MHP for Air Filter + Exhaust + Dyno kit and got 5bhp more (making it 49), so now I understand :D

Anyway, I'll have to tell shut the f***k up to the little voice in October :D

Thats because your riding a POGO bike

Tonio600 31-Aug-2006 20:09

ha ha. I still doesn't know what POGO means

But you'll notice I'm trying to do something for my forks, so I got your point that my suspension could be improved :)
