Pot thread.?

Can i suggest that in 2007 the Quality of the DD trophy's be looked at......

Poll to gauge support.........................

Fun with a hint of genuine interest here.!

And thanks for dickie for submitting himself to organise this in 2007

antonye 07-Sep-2006 12:55

Quite agree, even the ones New Era give out are far better in comparison!
We pay the same as the other New Era entrants, so why can't we have the same trophies?

domski 07-Sep-2006 12:57

Be honest then Phil, the 2006 trophies have been disappointing.

The 2005 trophies were twice the size, and we should get New Era trophies too. Another bright idea by the RC to turn them down.

The two 2nd place New Era trophies are brilliant, they may bt plastic, but they're big, colourful and look great - I also managed to get them on the same day I raced!!

The RC told New Era that we didn't want them!

Oh how Jim laughed

Foot. Shoot. Self.

BTW, did you claim a trophy for 3rd in SV on sunday?

stop it..!....

NBs996 07-Sep-2006 13:02

My one and only trophy is, I think, a bit more like an egg cup so slightly larger ones would be nice... or different styles like last year.
But to me that really doesn't matter if it's a large pebble and handwritten with a black marker, all care about is that I got a trophy to remind me I came 3rd!

Here's a thought - which I might even present to the RC if we have one next year - and that's to have a few rounds sponsored by individuals/companies providing trophies. That would free up any trophy budget for bigger ones in the unsponsored rounds.

I thought the trophies are already sponsored????

...by Ducati UK?

I think you'll find it was 2nd, and yes I did.

antonye 07-Sep-2006 13:05

Why not just take the frigging NE trophies - they're miles better!

Nice; I thought you were third behind the real SV and Paul on his Aprilia.

Sure, but there's a budget for it. And this year there's more than twice the pots to buy with (i guess) a similar ammount of £ as last year.

I told you already. I spoke to Chris Bushell and asked him why don't we get the New Era trophies, and he said that he had told New Era that we would supply our own. Chris also said to me that he had been told (by someone) that club trophies weren't anything to shout about.

However, if they were paper plates, surely it's up to the riders whether they want them or not?

No, I beat Paul twice ;)

Lovely bike though :)

antonye 07-Sep-2006 13:10

True.

The DD trophies are nice because they are proper metal, not plastic like the NE ones BUT they are about 1/10th of the size!

If all they do is sit on a shelf, this doesn't really matter so bigger the better I say! Lets take the NE ones and spend the trophy budget on ... something else. Advertising? Promotion? Whatever.

Murray Mint 07-Sep-2006 13:14

I'm a little bit ****ed at the fact that the Saturday guys didn't get any pots, I would of got one for a third place and little Dom and Mark F would also have got one each. Ho Hum.

fil2 07-Sep-2006 13:15

imho

what has happened dont matter ..LOL....what will happen does

If NE has them, then we the DD should get them as well as the DD sponsored trophys...

Phil

OK, I'll set myself up to be shot down on this one.
The DD series is set up and run in the name of the DSC and all its members(not just the riders).

I agree we could accept the NE ones but it would be nicer if we could come up with trophies to present on behalf of the DSC. It is unfortunate if the trophies were not as good as the NE ones (I wouldn't know, I never came near to seeing a trophy up close, even the one I saw in Nicks trophy cabinet (the one with the magnifying window glass) was seen at a distance) so maybe the RC can take the comment on board and try to do better next year.
Can I have a trophy for longest slide (all the way down Paddock hill and half way across the gravel in race 1 2006!)? :p

And my third in the second race on Saturday ;-)

I even managed a third in the second SV race on Saturday, but NE only had trophies for the first two positions apparently.

At least I have the beautiful memories.

dickieducati 07-Sep-2006 13:38

csrap 'em all together. complete waste of time.

philthy 07-Sep-2006 13:58

Deep breath

I know as a non racer/non member that I probably shouldn't stick my oar in but.........does size really matter?

I used to sell trophies and HATE those big tacky plastic ones.

The only trophy I'd ever win in a bike race is the one for slowest rider, but I have the odd one or two for target shooting, and they are mainly small medals and engraved glass tumblers, but all are good quality and I'm proud to have them..........tucked away in a drawer.

You chaps who win and get placed in races have amazing skills which most of us can only guess at and must have worked very very hard and overcome many obstacles to achieve your results.

At the end of the day you have achieved a result to be proud of and surely the trophy should be a mere token, something to inspire a thought or memory of times past. It sounds to me as if your organisers have gone for quality rather than brassy plastic. I know which I'd rather have.

Just an alternative view.

phoenix n max 07-Sep-2006 14:17

Are these the so small you dont even see em trophies ? ;)

dickieducati 07-Sep-2006 14:44

yeah, thems the ones.

but its not easy when there is only about 40 people willing and able to take them along to the meetings and arrange a presentation of them.

phil_h 07-Sep-2006 14:51

I got a lovely trophy for my 3rd in the sv race on saturday.
I personally dont care about size, its the thought put into the presentation that I remember the most.

I think we should just get the ordinary ne trophies and have 'DD special awards' as well so they go to the riders 'trying the hardest but not getting the podium' or 'most spectacular recovery' or 'biggest start line wheely'.
Lets celebrate the events in some special way that involves the dd supporters too.

Good post :)

Trophies are just a token, but it's nice to have a token that reflects the status of the series and the effort and money that the riders put in to it.

I'm surprised that someone hasn't asked Ducati if they have some old merchandise in a warehouse somewhere that could be turned in to awards? Even some minichamps or something mounted in a plastic case or something? They must have tons of stuff packed away in boxes - possibly??? Or old 800 pistons mounted on a 620 barrel, you know something a bit alternative.

;)

Yeah, it's not as easy as it seems when you're dealing with so few people willing to help out and you're busy all the time with jobs and other responsibilities and that.

hawk 07-Sep-2006 16:22

Oi! You were the one that told me there were only SV trophies for the first 2 places.

*grumbles* Could have been my first racing trophy. And so valued! ;-)

It was a plastic coffee cup Phill with biro on it, so don't feel too undervalued ;)

It was funny though
