1990 851 value ?

Can anyone tell me what a good price for a 1990/G, 19887m 851 would be please. (non-uppy-downy-forks 16" front)
And if they are actually ok to ride, and/or how much it costs to sort them.
I could be tempted to make an another 'investment' !

Phil

Not too sure, probably reckon anywhere between £2500 - £3500 depnding on how good / bad nick its in. Just a guestimate, sure some of the other 851 / 888 bunch will be along soon to give pointers. Recall there have been a few guys on the board bought similar bikes in last year or so.

I paid £4k for my '92 888 about 18 months ago from a dealer in pretty much immaculate condition having had recent engine strip & rebuild.

Of all bikes I've had this ones a keeper,

Hi, I might be wrong but i think the"90 red 851 had 17" wheels.

851neil 29-Sep-2006 21:29

yup the 90' bike had 17inchers alright - but this could be an 89 registered in 90 ? maybe

phil_h 29-Sep-2006 22:30

Actually, looking again at the pic of the bike in question, I think it does have 17inchers, which makes me happier. Dont know much about the non-uppy-downy-forks that were fitted then though.

A 1992 888? A SP4? Nice price!
Back on topic :)
The 89-90 models came standard with 17 inch wheels.
Only the Tricolore (strada) came with 16 inch wheels.
I have read some articles about those models and they were all positive of it.
Specially in comparison to the tricolore.

851neil 30-Sep-2006 11:50

mine was a 90' with Marzochi RWU forks and Marzochi rear shock, 17 inchers were std, handled great no problems at all...

My1989 888 / 851 has the M1R,s and I have no problems with them , I did notice in France that they dive a bit under really heavy braking but I've done nothing to them since buying the bike , so a rebuild and new springs are probably needed . I was thinking about going USD but if I'm honest its more for looks than trying to improve anything as the bike tracks through corners as if its on rails and even hitting bumps mid corner does'nt upset it

Where does he say it's an SP4?

SP4's are closer to double that.

Never mind.
It's probably a 851 instead of a 888.

alan_db 02-Oct-2006 18:55

beancounter's right.....no mention of SP4, my bikes just a humble nice condition 888 strada.

Just checked registration doc and bike was registered march '93 - 888 strada.
My apologies for confusion and also for inadvertantly hijacking this thread.
