Moto GP - where to watch in 2007?

Having seen and HEARD the Suzki Moto GP bike at Brands on Sunday and having not been to a Moto GP race - can anyone recommend which of the non-UK based races is easiest / best to go to in 2007?

I'd like to make it a Euro trip and be there for a few days - any advice?

John Hopkins on the GSVR was awesome wasn't he.... what a noise. I have only ever been to Moto GP at Donington Park so not really qualified to advise where to go abroad. However, my shortlist has consisted of Jerez, Mugello, Catalunya and Estoril....

I went to Jerez with Big Rock earlier this year, fantastic weekend.Well organised trip with a bus to and from the hotel to the circuit.Great grandstand seats,...well recommended.Enjoyed it that much, have booked for Valencia.:D

Been to mugello for the past 2 years, its a great experience and has an incredible atmosphere, definately one to go to! We Just booked gp tickets direct through the circuit and did everything else ourselves, sat with the rossi fanclub and had a ball, just beware the trains as they get a little cramped!! I personally hope to go to misano if it appears on next years calendar as expected

I wouldnt waste my money on donny gp now. It can actually work out quite reasonable taking in a foreign leg if you split a car with mates etc and get a cheap flight.

My money would be on sepang. Not as expensive as you think flying to Kuala Lumpur if you catch it right and it could be a nice little break (adding on a city break or even a trip over to Langkawai with the missus!).

And then theres Laguna - linked in with a trip to San Fran..excellent !

Otherwise Mugello or Jerez..

Tim,

MUGELLO

My Dad says its the best race meeting he's ever been to (and he's been to alot). Its not cheap and you really need main stand seats to be amongst it, but it'll be worth it.

For a nice easy ride to, there is allways le mans or assen.

V2 PETE 03-Oct-2006 20:41

i agree sepang i great for viewing gp but is is a long way to travel
did it in 2001 for 5 days
was a fantastic track
i should imagine mugello , jerez and catalunya are up there as some of the best tracks to catch a euro moto gp race
myself i aim to do laguna seca before 2010 !

sparkin 03-Oct-2006 20:49

Cataluynas a great track, done four days there, flew out Friday, home on Monday.Grandstand tickets, car hire,4star hotel(3nights) and flights for just over £200 each shared between four, defo do it again.:)

Absolute b'stard to get out of tho..........!:o :o :o

MJS 03-Oct-2006 21:59

I've done Valencia for WSB, Catalunya for GP this year, but tops for me has to be Brno....

Next years plans revolve around where i may end up working, but if it's still Europe then Mugello for sure, Jerez hopefully, and maybe Valencia again.

Cheers
Martin

chrisw 03-Oct-2006 22:02

If I got the chance, then the Ducati Stand at Mugello. Failing that, I'd do the VIP treatment at Le Mans again.

Those who I normally travel with have asked that I organise a trip to the Sachsenring for next year.

Rattler 03-Oct-2006 22:04

Thanks guys - I reckon I'd like to go to Jerez, only really because I've ridden it, if its relatively easy to get there / back etc - then that might be the one. But its on March 25 2007 - Jerez - probably will clash with DD??? - or Mugello on June 3rd.

Or both!!! hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Thanks again

Forget these millionaire GP muppets. Loughler, Hutchinson Finnegan, Donald, Martin, etc, these guys are the real deal. You can get a return flight to Ireland from any UK airport for like £20 or the ferry for £60 with a bike, B&B are £15 pppn and the racing is never more the €10 and most cases its free, the crack is brilliant and the girls, well irish, enough said. North West, Kells, Skerries all fantastic this year and the weather was red hot. These guys dice with death and get paid peanuts for what they do, its a shame there is not the kind of support that the GPs get. You are stood 1ft from the road watching 10+ bikes being ringed to death all trying to get round a course/road that is basically 4m wide on a surfice that is no better than your average drive.

It a shame some people have all the money and no imagination. They tell you they have been to the TT, so that counts. It is a fantastic 2 weeks, I've been several times, but it is certainly NOT road racing by any stretch! in fact compared to Irish racing its pretty dull.

Cameron Donald at Skerries hiting the limiter on a stretch of road with a 30 speed limit and a HP at the end, houses both sides and 10 other bikes all trying to get past him, he is not human.

If you fancy it next year, drop me a line, I live in Ireland and have lots of space. Around 10 mates comes over for each meet, it's fantastic.

Er, remove the can from your bike, start it, close the garage door and count your millions trying to convince the world you are not gay, its exactly the same as the MotoGP world.

Ps the best place in the world for the GP sound is infact LeMens sat in either one of the grandstands adjacent to one another. Everyone bangs on about Assen? Clueless.
