996 cleaning Picked the 996 up on Sunday, 440 miles later, WOW! The R1 is staying but the Ducati obession starts here, cannot wait for Milan show... What product do I use to clean the exhaust pipe work and the brembo calipers? Cheers |
I use really high grade wet and dry on the pipes of all things they come up a treat but takes hours to clean :(Brakes I use normal brake cleaner or maybe in extreme circumstances soak them then spray some wonder wheels on them but rinse off immediately as this stuff reacts like hell with the bolts... if you can remove the bolts first. |
Get the exhausts polished, easier to keep clean then.... |

Got any recommendations Andy ... been thinking about getting mine done. |
yeah, what this polishing all about? |
take them down a local metal finishers (look in the yellow pages) and ask them to polish them. not recommended if you intend to use them in the winter IMO you get water burns all over them. but better than trying to bring them back by hand |
How about using old long socks a la shoe shine on the pipework, original T cut does a decent job, give up at the right time for a faux titanium look, tried it on me 996. A mirror finish looks nice but could be high maintenance as above. Ray. |
High I use panel cleaner on mine, which gets all the **** off. Use it onec you have washed and dried it as per normal. Panel cleaner is obtainable from any car refinisher supplies place, it us used to do a final degrease before spraying. It also works a treat to get those stubborn stains off the bodywork |
Used to do the polishing thing with my pipes ( Ohh err!) But now prefer the brushed look. Just use a nice scotch bright etc. Cleans em up a treat and leaves em looking sort of factory. I like it anyhow. DC. |
Casoli will polish your pipes :biaggi: |
RCA, when is the Milan show?!!??! Thanks, P. |
that tin full of impregnated fluffy cotton stuff works well for me. can't remember the name of it though (the only word i can think of is "muff", but i don't think that's right) ;) |
auto glym products are great there super resin polish is the nutts for the body work and there alloy wheel cleaner cleans about every road going turd off anything and it dont react on anything (only ur throat) they do a motorcycle deegreaser to to get the stuburn chain flick off the wheel and pipes that u sometimes get there pretty exspensive but its all worth it |
