749r Titanium 57mm termi full kit- advice Basically a few questions on the 57mm Ti termi system, ecu and filter kit, is it worth having, will it cause me any additional headaches and will the kit for 05-06 fit my 2004 model? Oh yeah, what would you pay for this package 2nd hand? cheers |

Two types. one for old swing arm, second for the latter black arm. Is it the "banana" style pipework? filters yes, cpu debateable, pc111 + RR essential. |
If its a genuine kit for the 749R it comes with the throttle inlets trumpets too. Ti end can and 57mm pipework. two types of pipework, early type thats a bugger to fit and involves a 'mod' and the later type with the 'bannana' pipe (love that description!) 749R ecu, nothing special, PC3 and custom map essential - Seconded!!! if buying second hand expect the ECU to be useless, so budget for a Power commander. the full systems with Ti cans were discounted and available as 'just pipework' system for about £1700 new. the 749R system (with filters, ecu and trumpets) is/was £2700 ish. but you'll be lucky to find one 2nd hand. |
1 Attachment(s) Im told its for 05-06 model so definately later arm...heres a pic |
I think thats the pipework for the older swing arm. |
It is the earlier version pipework ( not Banana ) but the first 749R kit with the intake funnels etc had this kind of pipework as well, do not know if you can tell the difference just looking at it ?? I had heard that the later (new swinging arm ) pipework would fit the older swinging arm but older pipework would not fit the later swinging arm ? |
Just to add to this. I am also thinking about upgrading my assymetric system to a full 57mm system but see conflicting comments on various websites. Some say it makes a huge diffrence. some say it makes little difference - reduces midrange - puts a flatspot in midrange. Appreciate some feedback from fellow 749r owners on real life experiences ! |
Of course the cure for the 749r owners flat spot, loss of power ..............is to buy a 999r!;) |

Yawn.... |

But you clearly want more power...........so theres no replacement for displacement...........:D |

Excellent post Pedro - couldn't agree more! |

:o You don't have the 749R anymore?? |

.and just remind us,......you made a big mistake buying this didnt you.....?? |
no coment officer. |
and here i was thinking the question was..."what are the benefits of the 57mm pipe and how much is a 2nd hand one worth" NOT "Should i sell the bike im happy with and buy a 999 " Im not expecting to fit it and gain a load of bhp and torque, just more noise and a little more go would be good.....Jeez! |
Quote:
Well........ congrats, i guess....... ;) |
as i said before, the noise is the same from both systems.if you happy spending around £2000 for a 57mm system with a power commander etc then go for it,but i can speak from my 749r experience.i dont think it was worth it. i have found the same amount of money in my bike swap did. |

If you already have the half system and you're only looking for sound i say don't do it. If you plan on racing the hell out of it and you have the skill to ride it to the limit in the upper rev range, then it might be worth it. |
No i have the stock sysyem at the moment hence the question, the kit is available for £1250 not £2000, yes its a lot of money for not a huge gain and i dont plan on racing the hell out of it,but then if i were to buy a 999 would or could i use that to its full?....No I bought the 749r because i really wanted one. Sorry but i get p1ssed as it seems that whenever a 749r is mentioned on this board certain people always say "buy a 999-999r" It just gets a little boring |

In your case i would buy the half system (a second hand one if you find it) and throw in a PC3. I just recently bought a dual pipe half system for my 749R track bike, that goes........ BRAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! If what you want is sound there's no match for it :D |

Yeah, i believe you. |

 all the show, and no go! You do and please as you want.......jeez with that attitude you outa be in DD! Buy the system, then when you do get a 999 you can transfer it! Ok Ok, .........Look at it this way, you never buy anything for a Ducati, its just a temp loan. When your finished with it sell it on to someone else! |
but what gains would he get andy |
Quote:
Andy, what attitude? No offence mate but all the 999's are best jibes im sure were mildly amusing for the first few times, but eventually it gets a bit tiresome, come on, come up with something else, im sure you can do it. My point is you seem to brag about how your 999r is best whenever you can,we all own dukes so why not be constructive and leave the rest in the playground |
whatever. Its a bit like all the 749/999 are ugly, they only made so many of this model, all the yellow ones are slower, all the old shape are iconic, must get the latest titanium gizmo, must get the latest carbon gizmo.......... Its just what goes around on a site like this! Oh i never said my 999r was best........they're all good! |

'If it feels good,...do it!' If you can afford the system, then get one,.....fook 'em all.Look what Butch has done to his 'R'. Yep,for the price of the system you could p/ex the bike for 999S and instantly have more power,......but that aint the point,is it! As for your origional query,I'm sorry,I have no idea what gains you will get or what they are worth s/h.I do know they were over 2K new,...heck for that money you could buy another bike,.......oops,here we go again!;) I think there was some performance figures on the section 8 superbike site,..might be worth checking out. Here's the linky; http://www.section8superbike.com/04-06-749r.php Ok,so there's no performance figures anymore,..but you get the idea,....... |

I'd have to disagree a little... Had the new 57mm system fitted and set up with my old PCIII at JHP about a month back. It now feels much better in the midrange and top-end is fantastic. I love the way the 749R revs like its an inline four, but still has the low/mid range grunt. According to Mr Hackett, my bike was making a healthy 127 bhp, and it certainly feels fantastic (along with the geometry changes). Its probably worth it for the looks and sound alone! Go for it :D |
Id agree with you on the looks thing! The std exhaust looks like an after thought compared to say the old 996 jobbies, which even in std 45mm form look the part! |
I agree with Khu, For looks alone the 57mm system well worth it, I found that on my 749R that it did give about 5bhp and in my opinion it has a different sound, slightly deeper as though you can hear the growl developing in the pipes ?? It also has a more hollow mettalic sound ? Everyone has their own likes/dislikes but I agree that every time someone mentions a 749R there are the comments about how good the 999 is in comparison, hell they are all way to fast for any one of us to take completely to the limit and again in my own opinion and experiences there is no other bike that gets the attention a full carbon faired 749R recieves from young and old alike. Some say the 749/999 is ugly, from where they get that from is beyond me, I loved my 748/916/996 but in comparison now even though they are still an icon in the biking world they look so dated when next to a 749/999. If you can afford the system then go for it, you do what you want to do not what someone else thinks you should do . |
