feasible or not? Hello As my engine casing is looking a little tired, due to riding the bike all year, so I had maybe stupid idea:confused: But would it be possible to gut a 2001 engine and put all parts into a 2000 748S casing which is in VGC seen this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=018&item=280036848969&rd =1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 just thinking out loud:) maybe I need more sleep:lol: TopiToo |
I'd always thought that the casings matched the internal gubbins in some way, crank pre load and the like. It seems a lot of trouble to got to make the casings nice and shiny, there must be some way of giving them a really good clean and/or refinish, especially if the engine is out of the frame. Ray. |

Hello Ray Yep I think your right . . . have you ever had casing repainted? TopiToo |
TT, Never had a casing refinished, from memory the casings come in various bits, some painted and some natural, I vaguely recall this topic has come up before. The natural bits should clean up nicely with jizer, gunk or the like. Have the painted bits on you engine blistered, and started to peel?? That's a bit more difficult to sort out. The main casings are "natural" and stiff like the water pump cover, alternator cover painted?? Maybe someone else will come along with some suggestions?? Ray |
just buy a clean 996 engine................ quick swap and a few more ponies! |
I did that. I put inside a 2000 748 casing a 95 916 engine (internals) anyway, i think the 996 has different cases due to the larger cylinder bore... |

Hello CipiVTS was there a noticable improvement? is that the bike you have now? TopiToo |
1 Attachment(s) without giving too much away, engine paint can give you quite a nice effect. |

Having seen Chickens bike at Cornerspeed, yes I can vouch that it looks the dogs danglies:) Chris.:burn: |
Check with Nelly which paint he used but I don't think it's anything particularly unusual and probably available in different colours. As with any painting, the prep work is going to be key so make sure you smooth out any nasty patches before spraying (should be easy if your engine is out already) and don't forget to plug up any holes! thanks for the nice comment Chris ;) |
The paint i use is Sperex casing paint. Prep is the key though. |
