999 seat? have you? when i was a pro v twins they has a number of 749/999 with seats that were modified, they were all had extra padding /foam,they reacon it will transform you on the bike, anyone got one, tried one? |
Andy B has one.I think Glyn did the upholstery. |
i saw them to, did you sit on one of them to see the difference it made over the std seat. |
i did sit on one, felt much more higher with weight over the front & locked into tank.anyone on here do this mod? |
I may be doing this soon, Pedro. I'll let you know if/when I do. |
the seat pad is complety different from the standard stuff, not just a bit of extra under the standard seat pad,so who does this mod? |
I will be having a look at a modded seat pad in the next few weeks, but don't have any details of who made it and how, as yet. I am told that it is taller than the standard pad, so I thought it might be relevant to your query. Oh. Having re-read your original post, I don't know that it is the same as the ones you saw at Pro V Twins, so what I end up with may be irrelevant to you. I'll get me coat! :) |
I can't see how a raised pad can make a difference that can't be achieved by lowering the bars. What does make a difference is the pad at the back of the seat which controls how far back you can slide, most people prefer weight forward on 749/999 hence everyone slides the tank seat unit forward but if you end up slowly moving back on the seat you've negated that. On my old SP2 Honda I had a big bit of foam stuck to the seat just to keep me forward . The stock mono seat on a 999 isn't easy to modify but you probably could try sticking a bigger pad in and testing it. |
i wish yellow-mellow could get get a photo? hes seen these items also,i only sat on one.im surprised no one on here hasnt had one from them? they are a light grey in colour. |
Where's Andy B? Typical bloody copper,...never around when you need one!;)  He had a piccy of a 999 race seat pad,....think it may have been one of Pro V Twins race bike?? |
wonder if any members are local to pro v twins who could do a camera photo of what were on about? |
thinking of more down the lines of locking knee into tank, the seat i sat on did this, more of sitting on the bike, not in the bike.as yellow mellow said before, they had lost of these mods done on many bike in thier place.just need a snap shop. |

Oiy..........I resemble that!.............ive unfortunately had to be in the hostlilty suite at the rugby................hic! Anyway...........Ive been there done that....tried it a bit taller.......i did like it! im now with a grippier Ducati foam seat........having had my suspension done. |
I have a high seat, Ducatis own, there right about lowering the bars, but I did it for the comfort, my one is now ripped and I took it off to send it back, I went for one ride with the original seat and had to put the ripped one back on, how you put up with the original seat is beyond me. :flame: :burn: :burn: |
plus you need wider bars............. |
I had one of Pro Twins seat's which I sold with an HCRactech GP unit. It is good for the track, it raises you about 11 or 12 mm and you do notice the difference. I tended, as I say, to keep mine attached to the whole seat unit so I could switch it over in about 10 mins. For normal road use I normaly kept to the standard seat as I found the raised one put more pressure on the wrists. Only my experiences ofcourse, it probably also is different depending on your hight and length of back. I am 6'1". kp |
I've now got KP's seat. I'll take a pic in a little while... |

Not with a 2 1/2 hour ride either way :) |
I rode KP's 999 with the higher Pro-Twins seat on & cannot see the point of it at all. What's wrong with the original seat/ seating position? |
3 Attachment(s) Here are some pics for the Pro Twins seat. I fitted it a couple of weeks ago and it does make a difference. The brakes are loads more responsive... I like it! |

Forgive my ignorance, but how? Could it be that you just have more weight going through your wrists which gives the impression off your brakes being more responsive? |

More weight on the front may mean more feel coming through the forks. This could be achieved through altering the geometry of the bike, though - lower the front and/or raise the back. I recall that my 999 felt vague at the front, until I had adjusted the rear ride height, followed by dropping the yokes down the forks. The braking on my 999 feels awesome. I'm more interested in the raised seat in the hope that it will address the issues I have regarding distance from seat pad to pegs - aching hips and knees on longer jaunts, etc. |

More feel doesn't make your brakes more responsive though. Quote:

Fair enough if you find it uncomfortable. The higher seat may make your knees feel better, but I think your hips will be in a similar position & it definitely puts more weight on your wrists. I personally find it very comfortable with the standard seat. I'm 6'1" & been to the Italy on the bike this year + a few trips to the Nurburgring. |
this is where im at too, my bike has had the suspention set for me,by raising me via a seat pad,i will get a better fit/lock into tank with my knee, the bike i sat on at p.v.t. did this, i also changed my seat pad on my old 998 for the same reasons,i sat on david cooks 998/6 on a ccs day,his set up was on the same lines. |

Your right, I'm not the tallest of people but it's loads more comfortable on the knees... |
All this talk of mods has me reminiscing over my 748SPS. I like the S4RS I have now, but I suspect I am so going to want the 1098 when it comes out, as I really miss the head down arse up happy days of spanish inquisition riding! |
